For a good system, that is no viruses, no hangs, no crazy RAM eating programs, etc etc Step 1: Always update your OS security files, as far as i know this topic is concerned with Windows, with the automatic updates. Step 2: I would recommend Avira Anti-Virus since it has an in-built rootkit scanner and is the best in the market at the moment. But, if you are really good at computers like Fox you won't require it.Step 3: Do not download un-necessary programs which are freeware they are probably dll eaters, say good-bye to your system32 files then. Step 4: For less hang-ups regularly defragment and disk clean up your PC. For this go to Start->All Programs->Accessories->System tools-> Disk Defragmenter/ Disk Clean-up. Also remove un-necessary programs installed. Use Uni-blue software SpeedUpMyPc3 (I recommend personally) for a better RAM :D. Regards, Neo Edited by Neo, Friday, 17. April 2009, 23:57.

Avira isn't a good anti virus program. Its efficiency is quite low when compared to many others. AVG being free is much better than avira. If you are ready to shell out some money Bit Defender is the best anti virus you can find. If you are running Windows Vista with 1GB ram, don't expect your PC to be fast. 1GB for Vista is the bare minimum that the operating system needs thought Microsoft states that 512MB is the minimum. |

Guess you've never been infected by gen.rootkit... trust me when you're infected half your start-up processes, system32 dlls and your registry keys are history. |
