Looks like a great Pantry waiting to happen. Unfortunately, I'm space challenged at the moment. Needless to say, I'm envious.
I'll say. I am very jealous. No basements here in the desert. I have no more room to stuff things.
why not build you a basement in the desert and seal it

definitely important to know how to purify water. It's so difficult trying to store the amount of water recommended.

I'm low on my water storage in my supplies, but I definitely made sure to learn how to purify water... I've got a large swimming pool in my yard that could be used in case of emergency, plus I live on an Island, plenty of (salt) water around.

I've got hubby building me a room-sized pantry for my food supplies, once that's done I'll post pictures. Right now everything's in rubbermaid tubs (good for grab-n-go situation, though)
Well, I have a 75 gallon fish tank. It serves a dual purpose. I relax by watching the little critters and I have 75 gallons of water. The plants are also edible. Taste horrible, but are edible.

I keep a 550 gallon agricultural tank behind the house full. Have for 12 years now. I have a valve that need to be replaced so I will be sending it to the raised beds soon, fix the valve and refill. I have it piped so that I can pump it into the house system with a well pump I have under the garage steps. Works just like a well when the water in the street fails....and it often does. Our community has its own 8" well (and a 8" backup) that feeds a 5000 gallon tank on the mountain above me. I have 180 PSI coming to my house! When the power or the pump fails, the water supply is limited. The reason I have the tank. I'd like to install a 1000-1500 gallon tank a little further up the mountain behind me for redundancy and fire fighting capability.

We get about 18 inches of rain out here. In about 4 storms a year. Take a bucket of sand and pour a gallon of water on it. That would explain why no basements in the desert.
