I keep a 550 gallon agricultural tank behind the house full. Have for 12 years now. I have a valve that need to be replaced so I will be sending it to the raised beds soon, fix the valve and refill. I have it piped so that I can pump it into the house system with a well pump I have under the garage steps. Works just like a well when the water in the street fails....and it often does. Our community has its own 8" well (and a 8" backup) that feeds a 5000 gallon tank on the mountain above me. I have 180 PSI coming to my house! When the power or the pump fails, the water supply is limited. The reason I have the tank. I'd like to install a 1000-1500 gallon tank a little further up the mountain behind me for redundancy and fire fighting capability. |

We get about 18 inches of rain out here. In about 4 storms a year. Take a bucket of sand and pour a gallon of water on it. That would explain why no basements in the desert. |
