Not sure about your area, but those prices are a little high for this area. I see the 55 gal. ones for $10-15 here. I'd keep checking. Google "drums, barrels, Denver" or look in the yellow pages. I bet you can beat these prices. |

Niki, What is your ultimate goal? Store some water to hold you over if the supply is shut off, harvest rainwater or have water for use if you have to mobilize? It would help if we knew your plans and what you want to achieve. |

In that case I think I would go with those 5 gallon clear platic bottles that they sell in Walmart for use in water coolers and dispensers. They sell for about 5 dollars each and are reusable. You can buy one or two as your budget allows and they are light enough when full that they can still be handled. Full you are still looking at a little over 40 pounds each. The advantage of several smaller containers is that they can be shifted around to distribute the load as needed. Being easier to handle means you can use the water or change it out regularly to keep it fresh. Those bottle also fit perfectly on a Rubbermaid water can which will also act as a dispenser. That is what we use now. We buy filtered water for 5 gallons for 1 dollar for drinking because we dont like the clorine taste and the water here is very hard and plugs up coffee makers and stuff. I will go take a couple of pictures of our setup for you and post shortly. |
