Anybody ever used one or have one in place now?
One of the kids and I built one years ago as a science fair project. It worked remarkably well. It's in the attic now I believe. In the next few weeks I plan to get it out and get it working or build another one.

Here's a link to one on a Clemson (Go Tigers!) web site that is almost exactly like the one I built. If you have running water (creek, spring, dam) they are a great way to get water up to the house or a tank for use later. They run continuously....non-stop.

Dang, that was a lot of information. I'm not even sure if this is an electric or manual pump.

Actually neither...but I guess you can say automatic manual.

A Ram Pump uses the force of moving (falling) water to pump a small amount of water up hill. Ever turned on a spigot and got a loud hammering noise? That's water hammer. A ram pump uses this force of gravity to pump water up hill. As long as the creek flows, water will be pumped up hill. They are really an awesome thing to have. If you have a creek or dam on your property, do yourself a favor and look in to them.

So, none of you have any experience with a ram pump? I plan to get one back up and running this summer after a little work with a construction level and a calculator.

They are amazing. They were massed produced out of cast iron and used a lot before electricity. When electricity came to "the sticks", cheap electric water pumps replaced them. I would like to have an old original. You never see them. They must have all been left in the creek?
