I forgot to post this! I sent DH to the petstore with Hailey Sunday night for dog food. We have been tossing around the idea of a fish for awhile now. Well, he walked inthe door and said "show mommy what you got." Two goldfish! She named them Nemo and Shark Bait or Little Nemo [can't figure out the littler fishes name]. She is doing so good with them about not touching, and feeding them, etc. She just sits for hours and watches them swim. I'm sure she'll lose interest in a few days - but still. Its really sweet! |

haha - one fish died already. Hailey thought it was funny how we figured it out. THere is a filter with the tank/kit. So the fish would float up get pushed down by the filter and so forth. She thought it was on a ride. |

wow it died already!! You should see if the store will exchange it. (did you treat the water first? A fish dying that fast might have died from chlorine) |

It is probably the water. Although the other fish is doing great. I think it had more to do with the big one being a bully and eating all the food. So this one didn't get any food. I think that petsmart will test the water. I know the water has a lot of minerals and because I didn't plan on him getting a fish we didn't let the water sit out for any length of time first. |

my oldest saon LOVED our fish tanks down south! he would sit and watch the fish swim all the time! whenever he would have a melt down we would sit with him in front of the big tank in the livingroom and he would calm down after a few minutes! i miss my tanks but this house is not set-up for tanks. |

Rachel, they make drops to clear out the chlorine instantly!! Chlorine is toxic to fish so if you didnt have the water sit out thats prob what did it. The bigger fish was prob just stronger and survived. I hope he does well! Hey if he survived the toxic bath, he should survive anything! :jumpy: |

gabey loves his fish, he has two goldfish, and one pleco. it's really important to treat the water. change in temp, and water stresses fish out. goldfish are pretty hardy, and cheap, that's why we got them. we can just pop to the store for another 3.00 fish when these die, lol. |

What k ind of goldfish did you get shari! Jeremiah got these for 12 cents! For $3, we could have gotten a salt water or other rreally fancy fish. I think the mickey mouse fish is $3-ish. I think he really did get just feeder fish - not real goldfish. LOL! |

12 cents is cheap!!! LOL Did you buy feeder fish? :jumpy: Although $3 is high too. I think $1-$1.50 for a decent sized goldfish is standard. LOL Rach.... Bottled water IS tap water. Just tapped at the factory instead of your house! I'd much rather buy a filter for my tap than buy bottled water! They've actually done tests where bottled water is filled with bacteria and other nasties!!! NO WAY!! |

Yeah - I am thinking about buying one of those filters to go on the sink. My grandma's tap water tastes great! However, it is well water so it isn't treated with the chemicals the city typically does. That's why I don't really drink water anymore [bad I know]. I hate tap water, and I was drinking a lot of bottled water and was reading some studies NO THANKS. Plus I'll only buy #5 plastic [leeching chemicals, also ease with recycling biodegrade. I don't know if he got feeder fish or not. He said he got real goldfish. BUT I think the average price is what you said about $1-1.50. Then again it is DH, so who knows. |

even if you filter your water, make sure to use the drops anyway for the fish. they help make the water right specifically for the fish. feeder fish.. ummm... never last, lol. that's why they're so cheap, they're meant for food. LOL! i think ours were about 2-3.00... don't remember. we got the fancy fan tail ones... not the bubble face ones though, those are NASTY looking. ROTFL! |

oh, and DON'T get salt water. the fish itself may not be that expensive, but the set up to keep it alive is extremely expensive, and time consuming. you have a lot to worry about with salt water tanks. |
