We called Hailey's doctors office (After hours line) and spoke to a nurse about a spider bite yesterday. It is very tender, hard, and painful for her (or at least in the words of a 2, almost 3 year old). Its been draining and red around the bite area. So the nurse advised us to go to Urgent Care "just to be safe." So, we got t here at 4pm (slightly before) we're home now after a 1.5 hour wait and visit w/ the doc. URG! At the end of the day, its a certain spider bite (not mrsa - apparently mrsa can look similar to spider bites - but this clearly is NOT mrsa, and we saw the spider in her bed after nap time in the blanket she slept with. Great....right? Got an antibiotic (oral) perscription and said if it looks worse (redder, more painful, more swollen, etc) then to give it to her. He said, he's not convinced yet that an antibiotic is needed but wanted to give it to us in case it got worse instead of having to come back in (how sweet...). She didn't seem in too much pain when he measured and messed with the bite area which is good. So we're just going to keep using the after bite or benadryl cream/liquid medicine as needed.

Here is what I'm really :atomic: :atomic: about.....
When we first moved in here, maybe after 1-2 months we had ticks -- all over the place! We've never had ticks before. EVER. And to boot, we've never used a preventative either since 2004 -- 5 years -- no issues. We had a bout with fleas but the cause was from a neighbors cat and the A/C systems were interlinked so they came in through the attic areas where the A/C unit is located. Anyways, the tick issue resolved. Then we found these black bugs very small circular all over the place - EVERYWHERE. Again they come and spray - we have to remove the animals every time so its a huge PITB. This went on for about a month. Now we've seen 3-4 spiders in the house, one bite Hailey. J and Hailey are always itching, scratching, or noticing bites from unknown sources. We've NEVER EVER EVER had issues with pests - EVER. DH has about 7 bites on one leg alone. We've only been in this apartment since October '08 - 6 months! We were so happy to be out of the townhouse and truely I'm glad but serious this is craziness. We vacuum like crazy too.

Anyways, here's my question and debate. Is it worth it to get out of our lease or persue that route? What actions can we take? Our lease is up in October '09. So we have 6 more months in this place. Quite honestly when I signed that lease (and DH) we did NOT plan to share our apartment with ticks, spiders or other unknown bugs and get bits constantly run up health/medical and vet bills (re: ticks). We took advantage of a special where we got a month and half off our first month of rent and we'd have to pay that back if we left before our lease term is up. Quite honestly, I want to move before school starts in August. We were planning to purchase a second car in July but who knows now. I'm just so angry! I've got to stay in NC too....one of the perks was if we move to SC the rent is generally cheaper and general cost of living - but since I"m in NC I have in state tuition. Out of State tuition is almost triple what I pay currently. Transferring schools too is out of the question since its my last semester. I'm just so fed up. I have no idea what course of action we can take to get out of our lease or if it is even worth it.

If it were me, I'd call the landlord and see about getting a discount on your rent over it. They need to be spraying more. Kelli had a big issue with bed bugs at her apt. (she eventually moved) There were a lot of international neighbors moving in upstairs and they were bringing bugs in their luggage and such. Kiersten was getting bit constantly. When they moved they ended up throwing away their furniture and got new stuff. So i'd call your landlord and really be firm that you are infested with bugs, its the apt not your pets. and you need a rent reduction and you need them to spray more or you demand to get out of your lease!

Yeah i would definetly move we get spiders too and brendan ends up with sore spots on his legs once a summer (we don't know from what but he says it feels like his leg is broken) but when we we got that examined before he was like a doctor prescribing us allergy medicine that wasn't safe for kids without doing an x ray

They do spray the exterior of the building once per week (Every Monday). Its a huge PITA to have them spray inside the apartment because we have to board the dog and cat somewhere for the day (our vet will let us drop them off for free most of the time). Everytime we've called them they are really really nice about it "ok we'll have so and so come spray Monday" Oh and we had a bees when we first moved in too. I have no idea if I am allergic or not I guess that is on the list of things to find out right? I've never *knock on wood* been stung by a bee. My mom is allergic (Deathly, needs an epi-pen allergic or else allergic).

I need to look through our lease again, but really I'm tempted to toss all our mattresses, furniture, etc that does not have washable surfaces (desk, dressers, etc I think would be ok). I posted on my local mom's board and they said this is one of the worst seasons for pests - and everyone is having problems. So its probably just a seasonal thing. Its been going on for 6 months though? The folks that live in the floors above and besides us do have pets and god only knows if they use products on their pets (as far as the flea/tick thing go) or how their lifestyles are and how they would be exposing others. URG! I've also been reading about bed bugs, and I'm wondering if it could be that making DH and H itch so much. I never notice anything - I think we'll be getting a plastic bag to put around our mattresses *just in case*. We've never had any issues prior to moving here so I'm really ticked off.

I think the office is open until 7pm on Tuesday or something so we're going to run by there and see what we can work out because this is ridiculous.
