Let me know what you think ![]() ____ The Spirit Animal Nassuada sighed, and pulled on her ceremonial robes – deep green silk with glimmering gold ribbon outlining the sleeves and neckline. She never wore green, for it clashed with her purple skin. Around her slender neck, she slipped a golden necklace with a deep green flower suspended from the glittering chain. The young draenei secured the rings around her face tendrils and tail, for she wouldn’t want them to slip off during the ceremony, would she? There was a knock at her door, and she answered it with apprehension. Had the time come already? Surely not, surely she had an hour to go? At the door stood Jane, the paladin she had grown up with during the days of her druid training. She smiled, flashing her pearly white teeth, and greeted Nassuada with a happy hello. She invited Jane in, as she was the one who was acting as her guardian for the time being. She helped herself to a drink from the small kitchenette, and Nassuada didn’t mind. After she had moved out of Jane’s apartment in Dalaran, she was always checking up on her, to make sure she was all right. Jane took the small bathroom, and Nassuada resumed applying the finishing touches to her outfit - small, green gloves, the same material as the dress, around her delicate hands. She looked in the mirror, and saw a beautiful young lady staring back, her eyes the brightest blue, her skin the colour of the Teldrassil sky – a pale lilac colour – and silky smooth. She watched her reflection for a good 10 minutes, hoping that would boost her confidence… Nassuada left the comfort of her bedroom and wandered into the living/kitchen area, she lived only in a small flat overlooking the Cenarion Enclave. Jane emerged from the bathroom, and she looked stunning. As much as Nassuada disliked the humans - for their attitude got on her nerves - she could never think of a life without Jane. She had been like a mother to Nassuada when she had no one else, and she was eternally grateful. The young paladin wore golden robes, a similar gold to the ribbon that outlined the neckline and sleeves of the draenei’s own robes – however, tradition states the only ones wearing green during the ceremony of a druid completing their training – which Nassuada had done, and got commendations from the head druid, Fandral Staghelm himself – was the young druids and their mentors. So, as every young druid must, she was to attend a ceremony, during which the druids were to find their true spirit animal. In other words, ‘The animal which resides in your soul, guides your actions and words, and makes you who you are’, as Denatharion, or Dena as the Young Ones called him, told Nassuada. “Hey” said Nassuada, as she walked up to Jane. “Hey, Nass” Jane replied, wrapping her skinny arms around the draenei, whom in turn completed the hug. “All set for tonight?” “Yeah, I guess. Last minute nerves” |

more _____ “You look amazing, honey. There’s nothing to be worried about. After all, it is your day!” “Not exactly my day, there’s all of my group there – Zal, Den, Ry…” “Well, then you have Zal going through exactly the same as you! I bet he’s equally as nervous” Nassuada walked to the kitchen and grabbed a quick drink before the ceremony. A quick knock came from the door of her flat, and Jane answered it. “Nass” she yelled from the door. She turned around to face her, and saw her old mentor – Dena – stood at the door. “It’s time” The trio walked out of the door, and to say Nassuada was nervous was an understatement. What if her animal wasn’t what she expected? What if she let down both her trainers and the Arch Druid himself? She knew these questions would be answered in time, but like all Young Ones, she wanted to know the answers there and then. “Jane?” she turned to the paladin, who walked beside her. “Yeah, honey?” Jane smiled. “What if…my animal is something bad? After all, I’m the first draenei who’s took up the powers of a druid” “Nass, you’ll be great…more than that…you’ll be AMAZING! Being the first draenei who has taken up this opportunity isn’t necessarily a bad thing…make us proud. Make your race proud!” “All you have to remember, Nass” Dena added, stopping in his tracks and turning to me. “There are no bad spirit animals. Just bad druids. Take…” “Illidan Stormrage? Didn’t he try to master the druidic talents in his youth?” She asked, feeling like a complete idiot, like how she felt when she attended her first meeting in the Cenarion Enclave. “It’s a weak example, but yes. But believe me Nass, you will not turn out that way. You’re way too strong to become what he became” They walked into the dim light of the Cenarion Enclave, where the ceremony was to be held; wooden seats were set in rows in front of a wooden platform, there stood the Fire of Spirits. The Fire of Spirits was the fire in which a single strand of hair from the druid’s hair was thrown, and the Fire showed the true spirit animal of a druid. To say Nassuada was nervous at seeing the set-up was an understatement; she was terrified. Dena led her to the wooden platform and ran her through the schedule of the evening. At 7.30 pm, the guests would begin arriving and take their seats. At 8 pm, the ceremony would begin, and Fandral Staghelm would begin his overly long speech about how the Young Ones work hard toward their goal, and how nice it is to see everyone supporting the Young Ones. At 8.15pm – 9pm, the Young Ones would step out onto the wooden platform, one at a time, and discover their true spirit animal. Nassuada was taken to a small room behind the set, a short two-minute walk away. There, was the other Young Ones, all taking part in the ceremony. They were all equally as nervous. There, stood all the young druids she had trained with for the past three years – Deena, the youngest, who was gifted in the art of natural magic; Ryona, the eldest, whose talents in healing the wounds of others brought him to take on the form of the Tree of Life; and Zalin, who was talented in the feral arts and feral combat. She strode into the room, and took her place at the table in the middle with the rest of the druids. She was the only Draenei there – the difference between herself and the night elves was she was born hearing the call of nature, while the elves only heard that call once they became ‘of age’, on their sixteenth birthday. Time passed by, and the guests began to arrive. Jane had to leave to sit in the crowd, as the four young druids prepared last-minute with their trainers. Nassuada stood outside of the room, watching the ceremonial seats fill with anticipating families, and the seats at the front were still empty – reserved for the nobility of the Alliance – Lady Jaina Proudmoore, King Varian Wrynn, and young Prince Anduin Wrynn were rumoured to attend. Zal walked up and stood beside her, watching the crowd as well. “Nervous?” he asked, trying to hide the fact that he was extremely apprehensive. “Slightly” she smiled. “You?” “Yep” _____ hope you like it xxx |
