Heir to the SSBL throne

Everyone, please read this carefully. I had a computer crash, and somehow the league file was corrupted. Here is why you need to read carefully: There's some things working towards our advantage: 1. I have a backup file. Unfortunately, it is in Day 109 of the 1997 season, but it has continuity with past SSBL history: championships, player performances, etc. 2. We have re-signings, the 1998 draft file that Ray put together, and this whole board with our history of trades, position changes, owed picks, etc. 3. We have a good league with lots of GMs who are familiar with each other. We have a number of options. Option A: SSBL v3.1 One potential trajectory is to reboot the league as SSBL v3.1 by using the backup file, In doing so, we will output the whole of the rosters as they stand in late 1997/early 1998 by simming ahead, and try to pick up where we left off in the 1998 offseason. We can continue the draft on the board so that we have an accurate portrait of our draft results. If we were to go this route, the FBB pages would lose their history, but we would maintain the rosters, picks, salaries and make as seamless a move as possible between v3 and the reboot. We might have a bit of work to make sure that retirements are consistent, but we'll figure it out. Basic steps that I envision in this option 1. Sim in the backup to 1998, using the re-signings that were accepted already 2. Once we hit the draft, move all the necessary picks. 3. Run the draft. 4. Export the whole league roster file and start a new FBB file using this roster-- we would start with Free Agency. By starting a new file, we would lose past history (championships and awards), but we would not need to worry about asterisking a particular year and playoff championship and whatnot. Option B: SSBL v3.01 We can continue with the backup file (which is at Day 109 of 1997), simming into the 1998 offseason and picking up there. In some ways, this can be potentially simpler, but Ray and I need to talk details with Brian-- we would need to be very careful about uploading certain files to the league website to maintain uniformity and consistency. For example: going this route ensures a bit more uniformity in our history in terms of players' ratings (So if you're proud of how you've made Rony Seikaly a beast, you can still retain that)-- but the history will not be the same in terms of who is the league champion, who is player of the year... We would need to asterisk the whole 1997 season in the output files for v3.01 This is a similar option, I think (Brian can correct me), but it would entail being creative with the output of the backup. Option C: SSBL v4 This option entails turning to the historical 1998 NBA, and starting a new SSBL using the 1998 rosters as modified by Ray and me. We would lose a lot of the awesome progress that folks have made this offseason, but it's a fresh file with new opportunities. Oftentimes new leagues have that fantastic activity, whirlwind trades and whatnot. We would start from 1998 and move forward from there. The player rankings will be created to more closely match the historical performance. Since the players will be recreated without camps, current studs who have benefited from some performance enhancement will likely be a little more toned down. All in all, we will be starting in 1998. The question is the degree of continuity we can maintain with our past. ALSO- if we choose any kind of continuation of the current file, I will honor cash claims for the REAL SSBL v3. What I ask of you: Please be patient. This might be a tedious process for a day or two-- we can certainly continue with the draft-- in fact, doing so on the board alone will be helpful in doing a 3.1 or 3.01 type reboot. We'll have a record of who goes where and who owns what pick-- and in a reboot, I will honor these. Please offer some suggestions for the option to move forward with. I will take this into consideration, but in no way will I consider the results completely binding. Given the long history that many of the GMs here have had with SSBL in its variations, I will only take the steps that make sense for a supermajority, if not all of the GMs. Still, I'd like to know what you think is the best option. I will do what makes the most sense-- doing so requires getting a feel for where you are. It sucks that this has happened, but it's a situation that we can salvage. |

I vote Option B. Pretty much we lose the player of the year awards, I ofcourse will most likely lose my championship lol, but thats ok. As long as we can keep THESE players and THIS league, thats fine, and seems to be the easiest thing to do as well. |

Honestly, I'm good with the first two, the SSBL4 recreation just doesn't sound appealing for me. The parody in this league is great, and I think one of the first options would work better to continue that parody. |

Would in "Option A: SSBL v3.1" the ratings be affected in any way such that any previous camps might become obsolete? If so I vote for plan B with Robby as one offseason of asterik awards and titles is not too bad as long as its noted in the archive thread. Maybe post the actual results (not per game but the series outcome like Knicks 4 - Nets 1) as well as the end of the season awards, that way nothing is really lost. For Option B, I have an idea, not sure how possible it is.. But since there are only 10 days left in the regular season on the back up file, I'm pretty sure most of the awards will be the same for the most part. Then, you can save it. Next, you keep simming the playoffs as long as the Lakers and Bucks win their round. Once they both win their round, save it, and do it again until you get the championship. The finals history will not need an asterick. If that's too much of a hassle, then we can just archive it. Am I being a little greedy because I want my championship on the history? Ofcourse. And I'm sure Dnom wants his finals appearance. I think my plan would be pretty easy to do. But if not, then whatever, we just put an asterick next to everything and move on. What you guys think? |

Robby's idea sounds like a good one, that way shouldn't all the history stay the same then including 97. I'm with Nick aswell, would option B involve the off-season starting from scratch, because I don't want that to happen. Edited by Will-I-Am, Apr 27 2010, 01:11 PM.

Options A and B won't be starting from "scratch"-- all ratings and salaries remain the same. We will retain our progress so far in the draft (by the way, I'll be making my pick soon). A will have an entirely new league history, and B will either have an asterisk, or as close an outcome as possible. Thanks for your input gents-- we're going to make this work. |
