"1991 SSBL Atlantic Division Preview" With the 1991 season just around the corner, this article serves as a preview to each division. It will give an insight to every team, such as key players, key additions, etc. It's going to be tough for the Hawks to repeat, unless they can make some trades. The division highlighted in this article is the Atlantic Division. Boston CelticsLast season's record: 44-38 The Celtics were an up and down team, and haven't been able to find that group of players that have been able to put them over the hump. They made some more moves this offseason, so only time will tell if those actually do work out. Bird is still a beast at the ripe age of 34, so I don't even think about questioning him. My questions start with who will be there PF and SG? With the absence of King and the dip in TC of McHale, the Celtics better answer those questions fast, or it'll be yet another disappointing season for the Celtics. Key Additions: C Danny Schayes PF Michael Cage SG John Paxson Key Losses: None Probable Starting 5: C Danny Schayes PF Kevin McHale SF Larry Bird SG John Paxson PG Darrell Walker Miami HeatLast season's record: 52-30 The Heat had a very good season, reaching the ECF. However, they lost to the Hawks in 7 games. DRob, Perkins, and Person form a pretty nice trio, and Blackman and Skiles are two servicable guards. However, their bench is pretty crummy. DRob got better, which is scary. Person will continue to light it up from the Outside. The Heat are definitely a Playoff team, but I just feel that they won't get as far this season. Key Additions: FC Brian Williams Key Losses: None Probable Starting 5: C David Robinson PF Sam Perkins SF Chuck Person SG Rolando Blackman PG Scott Skiles New Jersey NetsLast season's record: 36-46 Last season for the Nets wasn't all that great. There main highlight really was acquiring star PG Kevin Johnson. From the draft, they were able to draft GF Calbert Cheaney. With that, they really need to decide what to do with SF Chris Morris. With Anderson already at the SG position, Morris to me seems expendable. I'm not really sure what kind of market value he has, but I think the Nets should move him for a better PF. The Nets are not too far off, because they have a good young core and an already good bench. Key Additions: GF Calbert Cheaney Key Losses: None Probable Starting 5: C Jon Koncak PF Loy Vaught SF Chris Morris SG Nick Anderson PG Kevin Johnson New York KnicksLast season's record: 54-28 Have you seen C Rik Smits lately? He's a freaking MONSTER! Their GM has been giving him some hormones or something because that guy gets bigger and bigger every offseason. Opposing players should be scared of this beast. Outside of him, the Knicks are still very solid. The Knicks will still have a dominating defense, giving them yet again one of the best differentials in the league. The Knicks will be a top team yet again this season. Key Additions: None Key Losses: None Probable Starting 5: C Rik Smits PF Roy Tarpley SF Derrick McKey SG Jerry Reynolds PG Jay Humphries Orlando MagicLast season's record: 41-41 The Magic finished at .500 last season, and that could probably be mainly from management problems. The Magic have a very talented team, so they should definitely not be a lotto team like they ended up being. The Magic had a good TC, so Drexler and Co. should do some damage this season. I'm really impressed with PF Charles Smith's improvements with his time in the league. This team should also be a pretty solid defensive team as well. Key Additions: SG Mark Macon Key Losses: None Probable Starting 5: C LaSalle Thompson PF Charles Smith SF Clyde Drexler SG Alvin Robertson PG Isiah Thomas Philadelphia 76ersLast season's record: 46-36 The Sixers have made some drastic changes over the course of a season, and so far, it has worked in their favor. Their GM has stuck with an Outside oriented offense, and it has worked for them. They were ousted in the Playoffs last season by the Heat in 4 games in the 1st rd. This offseaon, their GM aimed at improving their lineup and bench with that focus on Outside offense. He did a pretty good job, it's just that TC wasn't too kind. Hopefully they can still make up for that. Key Additions: GF Todd Day G Johnny Dawkins GF Johnny Newman Key Losses: None Probable Starting 5: C Randy Breuer PF Charles Oakley SF Mitch Richmond SG Johnny Dawkins PG Kenny Smith Washington BulletsLast season's record: 47-35 The Bullets had another good season, although they weren't able to repeat their Championship performance back in the 1989 season. However, MJ had another brilliant season, finishing 2nd in scoring and 2nd in the MVP race, both to Olajuwon. The Bullets had some thoughts of moving MJ, but instead decided to keep him. Retaining their players was very important, but I do really question PG Gary Grant's contract. That could really be a burden on that franchise down the line. The Bullets will be again a Playoff team, but will fall short, unless they can make a big move that doesn't involve MJ. Key Additions: None Key Losses: None Probable Starting 5: C Bill Laimbeer PF John Williams SF Craig Ehlo SG Michael Jordan PF Gary Grant Edited by Maverick41, Aug 25 2009, 07:42 PM.
