"International Flavor of the Mavs"

Going into the 1991 season, the Dallas Mavericks are one of the teams in the league with the most international players on their roster. More and more international players will be coming into the league, as we can see with the last draft with C Dikembe Mutombo, SG Alberto Herreros, PG Sasha Dordevic, etc. For the Mavs, the international players include C Rony Seikaly, F Detlef Schrempf, and SG Drazen Petrovic. Let's take a look at each players background and their role on the Mavs.

In 1984, Seikaly began attending Syracuse University. He had a good career at Syracuse, earning All-American honors and also making the John R. Wooden All-American Team. He graduated from Syracuse as the all time leading rebounder, second in blocked shots and fourth in scoring. His #4 jersey was also retired and hangs in the rafters of the Carrier Dome.
Seikaly became a member of the Dallas Mavericks via trade with the Utah Jazz. Seikaly is the starting C and the Mavs really value his Inside Defense and Shot Blocking.

Petrovic was born on October 22, 1964, in Sibenik, a city in Dalmatia, in the former Yugoslavia. Petrovic was also the close cousin of great Serbian baketball player Dejan Bodiroga. At the age of thirteen, Petrovic started playing in the youth selections of the local BC Sibenka; at the age of fifteen he had already made the first team, just as Sibenka earned a place in the national first division. Petrovic started to hit stardom when he joined BC Cibona, where he avg. 37.7 pts during a 4 year period. He won a few European Championships while with Cibona. He postponed his departure to SSBL by signing with Real Madrid, playing one season with the team. He was not able to help Madrid win a Championship. He was one of the best players to come out from Europe ever to SSBL.
Petrovic became a member of the Dallas Mavericks via trade with the Portland Trailblazers. Petrovic is the starting SG and the Mavs love his tenacity, experience on the pro circuit, and his Outside scoring.
