Power Rankings - Sim 3

Posted Image1. Atlanta Hawks

Record: 18-6 | Last Week: 12-5 | Power Ranking: +1

The Atlanta Hawks currently sit ontop of the east with the best record in the league, and led by shooting guard Reggie Miller, they show no signs of slowing down. The sharpshooting Hawks lead the league in scoring with 28.8ppg from Reggie Miller and 24.1ppg from point guard Michael Adams, with those two taking care of the offensive end, 7'4 center Mark Eaton continues to impress on the defensive end, chipping in with 11.0 rebounds and 3.3 blocks per game. With a nice mix of offensive and defense the Hawks will hope to go one step further than last season which saw them elimanated in the Conference finals, and are looking favourites to do so at this stage of the season.

Posted Image2. Sacramento Kings

Record: 19-7 | Last Week: 11-6 | Power Ranking: +5

Undrafted rookie Taylor Person continues to take the league by storm, obviously determined to show the teams who failed to draft him what they are missing out on. Averaging an impressive 18ppg and 11.5rpg many fans in Sacramento are ignoring the supossed lack of defense Person plays as he leads the unfaniced Sacramento Kings to the top of the Western Conference with 9 wins in the last 10 games. New signing James Worthy is also quickly becoming a fan favourite with his solid play, leading the team with 22.9ppg. With the weak Western Conference, the Kings look favourites to hang onto the #1 seed, how far they progress in the Playoffs is yet to be seen but they are looking good at the moment.

Posted Image3. Charlotte Hornets

Record: 18-7 | Last Week: 12-6 | Power Ranking: 0

The Charlotte Hornets continue to impress, going 6-1 in the last 7 games. The Hornets are now sitting 3rd in the Eastern Conference just one game behind the Atlanta Hawks for the top seeding, in what looks to be an exciting race and one to watch for the rest of the season. Jerome Kersey and Dale Ellis continue to do the scoring for the team while #1 selection in the Creation Draft for the Hornets, Benoit Benjamin also chips in with 16.4ppg, 10.3rpg and 3ppg. They were some fans in Charlotte who were apparently disapointed with the selection on draft night but they have been silenced now. New acquisition Terry Catledge should also provide scoring and rebounding off the bench which can only help the team.

Posted Image4. Philadelphia 76ers

Record: 17-10 | Last Week: 10-9 | Power Ranking: +9

Jumping up an impressive 9 places in this week's power rankings are the Philadelphia 76ers. After missing 12 games early on in the season due to injury the 76ers welcomed back Sherman Douglas to the starting lineup and he showed them what they were missing, currently averaging 15.1ppg and 9.9apg he is proving to be a solid side kick to team superstar Charles Barkley. Barkley leads the team with 24ppg and 10.7rpg as the 76ers have won 10 of their last 12 games in a run which sees them as one of the hottest teams in the league right now. Whether they can keep this form up remains to be seen as their isnt a great supporting cast in Philadelphia, 22 year old Lionel Simmons is having a good rookie season though, averaging 13.8ppg and 6.6rpg.

Posted Image5. Miami Heat

Record: 15-8 | Last Week: 8-5 | Power Ranking: +5

After a slowish start to the season the Miami Heat have gone 7-3 since the last edition of the Power Rankings and are sitting atop of the Atlantic Division and therefore second in the Eastern Conference. Led by Rookie of the Year David Robinson, who is as impressive as ever with 25.3ppg, 12.7rpg and 4.3bpg, the Heat have had some impressive wins in their latest run of matches. With Sam Perkins and Chuck Person both also posting impressive figures on the team its the guard positions that are slighty worrying the fans in Miami, the starting guards Rolando Blackman and Scott Skiles dont average 20ppg between them.

Posted Image6. New York Knicks

Record: 10-5 | Last Week: 9-3 | Power Ranking: -5

After a light schedule since the last addition of the Power Rankings thet New York Knicks see themselves dropping down this week. The Knicks played just 3 games in the last 12 days and ending up losing two of the three, including a 1 point loss to the Sacramento Kings. Rik Smits and Roy Tarpley are widely regarded around the league as one of the best big man partnerships in SSBL and Jay Humphries has started his career well in New York. I expect to see the Knicks near the top of the Eastern Conference come the end of the season.

Posted Image7. Phoenix Suns

Record: 19-10 | Last Week: 12-7 | Power Ranking: +1

The Pheonix Suns are another team that is suprising everyone and taking advantage in the Western Conference, Point Guard Dana Barros is having a breakout season and is quickly becoming a fan favourite in Phoenix. Barros is averaging 19ppg on 52% shooting, with Dell Curry chipping in 17.7ppg and Kevin Duckworth adding 18.7ppg. The Suns have won 7 out of the last 10 with impressive wins against the Grizzlies, Mavericks and Trailblazers. We will have to wait and see if the Suns can keep up this kinda form for the rest of the season and seal a high playoff position.

Posted Image8. Vancouver Grizzlies

Record: 16-11 | Last Week: 12-6 | Power Ranking: -3

The Grizzlies suffered from injuries during the last 12 days and that saw their form drop, but after a strong start to the season the Grizzlies are still sitting in 2nd seed in the Western Conference. The Grizzlies were missing 3 starters at various points in the last 12 days, Dawkins, Thompson and star man Larry Nance who has been missing the majority of the season. Danny Schayes and Reggie Lewis are both having strong seasons averaging 19ppg and 17.4ppg respectively. If the Grizzlies can keep healthy they should have a good playoff run come the offseason in the weaker Western Conference.

Posted Image9. Indiana Pacers

Record: 17-14 | Last Week: 14-7 | Power Ranking: -5

The Indiana Pacers are another team who fall down the Power Rankings this time after a bad 12 days. After a bad season last season the Pacers bagged the 2nd overall pick in the draft and selected power forward Derrick Coleman, and he is playing like a guy who is out to prove that he should of been the #1 selection, with 20.6ppg and 10.8rpg, after picking up Rookie of the Month award already he is the front runner for Rookie of the Year. Scottie Pippen is also impressing with his allround play, the Pacers have a solid roster and should find themselves comfortabley in the playoffs come crunch time.

Posted Image10. Utah Jazz

Record: 15-12 | Last Week: 11-6 | Power Ranking: -5

The Utah have just fired their General Manager after a run of 6 defeats in the last 10 games, after a promising start the Jazz have slipped slighty, the fans in Utah will hope the new general manager can steady the ship. Point guard Lafayette Lever who was including in the All-League First Team and All-Defensive Team after an impressive season last year continues to lead the team, averaging 21.9ppg, 6rpg, 2.3spg and 8apg. 25 year old big man Rony Seikaly is also having a good season putting up 16.3ppg and 11.8rpg and the play of these two see the Jazz sitting in the 4th seed of the Western Conference.

Posted Image11. Golden State Warriors

Record: 11-10 | Last Week: 5-7 | Power Ranking: +8

Led by the front runner for the MVP trophy, Hakeem Olajuwon, the Golden State Warriors won six of their last nine games since the last edition of the Power Rankings. Olajuwon is stuffing the stat sheet with 38.2ppg, 13.7rpg, 2spg and 4.4bpg and is almost single handedly bringing the Warriors up the rankings, but the question remains is their enough talent around him for the Warriors to be a major force in the league. Also the Warriors have suffered a major blow with the Patella Tendinitis that Muggsy Bogues has suffered which will see him ruled out for the next 53 days. It will be interesting to see how the Warriors cope with this.

Posted Image12. Detroit Pistons

Record: 13-12 | Last Week: 10-8 | Power Ranking: -1

The Pistons are led by their two big men Patrick Ewing and Moses Malone who are both in great form, especially Patrick Ewing who is currently averaging 26.2ppg, 11.4rpg and 4.5bpg. Joe Dumars is scoring efficiently but their isnt alot of depth on the roster and Avery Johnson seems to be struggling a little at the point. The Pistons should probably look to improve their team if they are serious about making a splash in the playoffs, with Moses Malone at 35 he might not have many seasons left in him.

Posted Image13. Denver Nuggets

Record: 12-12 | Last Week: 10-8 | Power Ranking: +5

The Denver Nuggets have made a couple moves to get them in a position to go deep into the playoffs and contend for a Championship, first of all they traded for Terry Cummings from the New York Nets and most recently brought in Byron Scott from the Spurs and after a slowish start they are slowing moving up the standings and now sit in the 8th seed in the West. Led by 6'9 point guard Magic Johnson the Nuggets have an impressive team on paper and the fans in Denver will hope the team can continue to gel together and cement a place in the playoffs.

Posted Image14. Dallas Mavericks

Record: 13-12 | Last Week: 10-6 | Power Ranking: -5

The Dallas Mavericks have made alot of moves since last season and have put together an impressive lineup, Chris Mullin and Mitch Richmond form one of the best scoring duo's in the league. But the Mavericks have struggled lately losing six of their last nine games, with the team's defense becoming a slight problem, Kenny Smith has also struggled a little after taking over the point guard duties. I see these as teething problems with a lot of new faces around the team and come the end of the season I expect to see them sitting comfortabaly in the playoffs.

Posted Image15. Portland Trailblazers

Record: 14-14 | Last Week: 9-9 | Power Ranking: +1

Karl Malone is the man in Portland, and he is determined to make a name for himself, he improved his game alot this offseason to make sure that he can lead the Trailblazers onto better things. Malone is currently 2nd in the league in scoring, averaging 34.8ppg to put the Blazers 7th in the Western Conference. Karl Malone is in his prime right now and the Blazers need to try and add some talent around him if they are serious about winning a title, Drazen Petrovic and Nate McMillan are good young players but Malone needs someone alongside him that can help him now, after all the work he has put in can Malone wait for the young guys around him to develop?

Posted Image16. Boston Celtics - 13 - 13

Record: 13-13 | Last Week: 10-10 | Power Ranking: +1

The Celtics have a talented team but their main core is of veterans, their championship window seems to be small but they have talent that can see them go far in the playoffs. Led by star small forward Larry Bird (33), Bernard King (33), Kevin McHale (32) and Darrell Walker (29) they know what it takes to win basketball games but can they keep up with the younger players around the league? A strong power forward who can rebound is probably the team's biggest need.

Posted Image17. Milwaukee Bucks

Record: 10-10 | Last Week: 5-5 | Power Ranking: -3

Posted Image18. Washington Bullets

Record: 12-13 | Last Week: 7-10 | Power Ranking: +2

Posted Image19. Seattle Supersonics

Record: 10-12 | Last Week: 5-9 | Power Ranking: +4

Posted Image20. San Antonio Spurs

Record: 11-13 | Last Week: 9-8 | Power Ranking: -8

Posted Image21. Chicago Bulls

Record: 12-17 | Last Week: 7-12 | Power Ranking: +1

Posted Image22. Los Angeles Lakers

Record: 9-13 | Last Week: 5-9 | Power Ranking: +2

Posted Image23. Los Angeles Clippers

Record: 10-14 | Last Week: 9-10 | Power Ranking: -6

Posted Image24. Cleveland Cavaliers

Record: 10-18 | Last Week: 6-13 | Power Ranking: +2

Posted Image25. Orlando Magic

Record: 10-19 | Last Week: 6-12 | Power Ranking: 0

Posted Image26. Houston Rockets

Record: 8-15 | Last Week: 5-12 | Power Ranking: +1

Posted Image27. New Jersey Nets

Record: 8-17 | Last Week: 6-9 | Power Ranking: -6

Posted Image28. Minnesota Timberwolves

Record: 4-16 | Last Week: 3-10 | Power Ranking: +1

Posted Image29. Toronto Raptors

Record: 5-19 | Last Week: 4-12 | Power Ranking: -1

Biggest Rise:

The Philadelphia 76ers are this editions biggest risers with an increase of 9 spots to move into the 4th overall spot in the Power Rankings. The went 7-1 in their last 8 games since the last edition which has seen them move into the 4th post in a tough Eastern Conference, the return of point guard Sherman Douglas to help out the team's franchise player Charles Barkley has really energised the 76ers. They are currently an impressive 12-3 in Philadelphia, a record they hope to maintain and improve throughout the season which should help them come playoff time. Some are doubting if the 76ers have a squad deep and strong enough to maintain a long playoff run but Charles Barkely and Co. are enjoying their basketball at the moment.

Biggest Fall:

The biggest fall sees the San Antonio Spurs fall 8 places to 20th in this edition of the Power Rankings, after a disapointing peformance in the playoffs last season and an indifferent start to this, the Spurs decided it was time to rebuild for the future which has seen them trade both James Worthy and Mark Price. Byron Scott and Ralph Sampson have both been moved on recently aswell as the exodus continues and rumours are that Charles Oakley will be next. As the season continues we expect to see the Spurs continue to fall down the Power Rankings as the fans in San Antonio brace themselves for a long season.

*I didnt just go by winning percentages, tried to factor in how well the teams done in the last sim aswell as winning percentages. Also only managed to do a write up on the playoff teams, spent too long writing about them and also finding out the ranking differences and last times records etc.*

really good read, man, I like how you factored in how well teams have been doing instead of just putting teams up in order of their win percentage.

lol, my eyes suck :P . Thanks for pointing that out to me.

$400.

Very good stuff, but in order to get the full $500, some analysis needs to be done for every team.

I think you got it wrong

Articles: $0-$650 (depending on quality and whatnot)
Power Rankings: $500/season (plus article money for every update)

I think it means that PR's can get up to 650 and if you did the PR's regularly you'll get 500 after the season

Which means you'll have to regrade this and my bro's

Hey Crest, you didn't write this article so just shut it. Article grading is a pain in the ass sometimes and while you may not like the result, you're just going to have to live with it.

Yeah, crest, Im going to be civil about this, but please, if you have problem, than atleast PM me or something if you see a problem. There's no need to point shit out in the public. I bumped it up to $400, but that's the last time Im going to reconsider something.

Im sorry i was just pointing out an observation. I'm fine with whatever happens with the article and i know i didnt write it, i was just wondering why a normal article can get 650 while a PR (which is harder in my opinion) can only get 500

Sorry again
