NOTE: Don't expect this to be a bi-sim thing or anything. It's very tiring to try and do quality work for $650 + I expect to continue to be busy over the next few weeks. If anyone wants to try and do the next power rankings, feel free to and you can use this format. 1. New York KnicksRecord: 9-3 Home of the league's best front court, the New York Knicks find themselves at #1 in this edition of our power rankings because of the numbers their starting bigmen bring to the table. (46.3 PPG) Don't be fooled by their blocks and rebounds, they are far better than they lead you on to believe. It's unbelievable that they were beaten by the Hornets last season but I don't think Jay Humphries will let history repeat itself. 2. Atlanta HawksRecord: 12-5 I know the Hawks are good but I must confess, I am a doubter and maybe that is why my team was watching from the sideline last season. Reggie Miller has been insane in the first 17 games of the season with 31.5 points per game. I repeat that is not a typo. Another player turning heads is Michael Adams. 23 points and 10 assists? Come on. The league's most potent offense at 108 points a game doesn't want to slow down any time soon. 3. Charlotte HornetsRecord: 12-6 It is always hard to give props to my brother but the Hornets are the best of the three .667 teams out there. Boasting one of the most underrated stars in the league, Jerome Kersey is quietly leading one of the best defensive teams in the league to a great start. I think James Edwards is a terrible backup and Riley not much better. If they want to get far, they need to improve their bench. 4. Indiana PacersRecord: 14-7 Coleman should have been #1 or at least that is what he wants you to believe. Completely turning around one of the league's worst team's last season, Coleman's 21.7 points and 10.8 rebounds put him in the lead for rookie of the year. To be honest, I think he'll be able to keep this monster pace throughout the season with Mark Jackson feeding him the ball. Can Pippen be the #1 on a great team? 5. Vancouver GrizzliesRecord: 12-6 The first and only western team to make an appearance in the top 5, the Grizzlies are building on last season's final appearance and trying to win the franchise's first championship. With a nice balanced roster, the Grizzlies are expected to come out of the west once again... unless the Nuggets pull it together. 6. Utah JazzRecord: 11-6 Though they failed to meet the .500 mark last season, the Utah Jazz put up a strong fight against the eventual conference finalist Los Angeles Lakers. With a general manager clearly engrossed with Rony Seikaly, the news splash will be what happens with Lafayette "Fat" Lever. He's continuing his crazy number streak after enjoying an all-league first and defense team in 1989. A source close to the situation says that the Hornets and Nets are the closest to a deal. Who needs a 21/6/9 point guard that can play defense? 7. Sacramento KingsRecord: 11-6 Who is Taylor Person? An enigma that has caught the imagination of every fan around the world. After bouncing around in the development league last season, Taylor is now the hottest name in the NBA. Taylor Person's 18/11 are pairing up with Worthy's 23/6. Did I just put James Worthy in the same sentence as Taylor Person? I guess I did. Kings should be a lottery team but mix in a weak conference and some team building skills and you got the western conference darkhorse. 8. Phoenix SunsRecord: 12-7 I am not sure if Phoenix wants to be in this position but here they are in the thick of the western conference playoff race. Thunder Dan has struggled some but Dell Curry, Dana Barros and Kevin Duckworth are enjoying very fine seasons. I'm telling you, I shouldn't be seeing more than 4 wins at this point but I'm eating my words right now. 9. Dallas MavericksRecord: 10-6 Maverick has to be the most active general manager in the league and his team shows it. A year removed from winning the #1 overall pick in the draft, Dallas has sent Gary Payton packing to Chicago and brought in Chris Mullin and Mark West. The team has to hope its' young guys Radja and Smith develop quickly because this young team has a window that will eventually close as other western teams get stronger. 10. Miami HeatRecord: 8-5 If you look at the stats, Miami actually averages LESS points than their opponents because when they lose, they lose big. I expect their record to dip but their point differential to become positive as the season goes on. Miami is a good team but their guard work could use a lot work. With superstar sophomore David Robinson in town, Miami fans will post a winning record. Will that be enough to make the playoffs? 11. Detroit PistonsRecord: 10-8 Can you believe that a team with Patrick Ewing, Moses Malone and Joe Dumars would be out of the top 10 in any league? The pistons are a group with efficiency (.481 FG%) but they lack any exceptional defenders outside of Ewing. They drafted Kendall Gill to be a stopper but he's still too young. I do expect slash to make some sort of move. Nothing splashy but something to improve the team in the short term. 12. San Antonio SpursRecord: 9-8 Now it gets interesting. San Antonio looked to compete but after a second round exit, the Spurs have decided to start over. They've got significant return with the #3 and #11 picks of the draft but it is clear they don't lack a franchise cornerstone. You know what would be interesting? If Alonzo found his way into San Antonio. 13. Philadelphia 76ersRecord: 10-9 Philadelphia is a team looking to improve and retains enough of their picks left to make a move. There was some talk of possibly moving Barkley but it is now clear that Philadelphia has decided that the Round Mound of Rebound is here to stay. Now, it is time to surround him with some talent. With three positions to fill, expect more than one transaction to take place over the next few days. Random Fact: Did you know that Charles Barkley averages .5 BPG? What is it with PFs who play damn good but hate blocking. Yes that was a not-so-subtle assault on Oakley and Thorpe. 14. Milwaukee BucksRecord: 5-5 I'm as biased as they come. Milwaukee deserved the 14th spot in this power rankings. With two incredible players in Ron Harper and Tim Hardaway, Milwaukee is now stockpiling talent in anticipation of a big player coming on the market. Bucks got the best thieves in the league. Now, they just got to play better team defense. If they can do that, there is no reason they should not rise fast. Floydd watch: 2.7 points and 2.3 assists per game. Get him while he is hot. 15. Portland TrailblazersRecord: 9-9 Karl Malone holds the single game record for points in a game. 64 will be tough to break for anyone, even though Jordan came closest when he posted 63. Those 2 will be fighting for the top spot on the all time scoring list for the next 10 years or so. I expect Portland to do the same in their fight for the playoffs. Malone is one wing star away from competing for the title. 16. Boston CelticsRecord: 10-10 Another team that has seen a lot of change. Three of the greatest scorers in history are together with Larry Bird, Kevin Mchale and Bernard King. Unfortunately, there is a lot of mileage on their legs and aside from Larry, there might not be enough left in the tank for a playoff run. Still, it is clear that Luca's goal is on a championship and that is more than most GMs can say. Larry Bird is as good a player as any in the league. 17. Los Angeles ClippersRecord: 9-10 It is unsurprising that the Clippers are wallowing in mediocrity. They don't nearly have the talent to win a playoff series but Manning and Strickland are keeping the team above water and out of a good lottery spot. This trend cannot continue unless clippers are content to be just another bubble team for the next few seasons. 18. Denver NuggetsRecord: 7-8 This was and still is my pick for the championship. They are struggling early but a recent trade for Byron Scott may have been just what the doctor ordered. Magic is averaging a mind blowing 26/7/11 while Cummings and Bowie average a combined 39.2 PPG and 20.7 RPG. If there is a team with the talent to win it all, this is it. 19. Golden State WarriorsRecord: 5-7 Do you see Hakeem's #s? 38.3 points per game, 13.2 rebounds and 4.8 BPG? The one guy that I think can take the MVP from Michael Jordan's hands. Combined with Manute Bol, the two average 9.1 BPG which is better than any other TEAM in the league. The problem is, the Warriors other players aren't particularly good. If Cwizz doesn't want to waste the best year's of Hakeem, he must get support. 20. Washington BulletsRecord: 7-10 The reigning champions shocked the world when they opened up the season this way. Michael Jordan has been up to his usual heroics but only one other player is averaging double figures. The third scorer is Gary Grant with 9.9 points per game. That just won't get it done against the good teams. 21. New Jersey NetsRecord: 6-9 New Jersey started out 4-4 but dipped as of late. The loss of Terry Cummings will only be more evident now that Ken Norman was traded for a pick. It seems inevitable that Mike Gminski will go. The Sonics are said to be on the inside track. Nick Anderson has been steadily improving but can he keep up his ascent? 22. Chicago BullsRecord: 7-12 Clifford Robinson might not become a star but both Gary Payton and Brad Daughtery look like ones. The playoffs aren't a faraway dream for this roster. They could use a real wing and some help up front but who doesn't have problems? As soon as next season, everyone can expect to hear more from this Chicago team. 23. Seattle SupersonicsRecord: 5-9 Part of the select few who are aiming to win, Seattle was devastated last season when John Stockton went down with an ACL tear. Seattle actually is +3 in point differential and they will bounce back from this awful start to move up into the playoffs. Robert Parish and Dennis Rodman do the dirty work. Those type of things pay off. 24. Los Angeles LakersRecord: 5-9 Shawn Kemp. Will he stay or will he go? We will never know. In a rebuilding situation, a premier young guy like Shawn will definitely be hard to let go but the lack of improvement after one season is concerning. 25. Orlando MagicRecord: 6-12 How the mighty have fallen. The Orlando look like tankers right now and it would be a real shame if they landed a top lottery pick when they already have prime Drexler and Isaiah. 26. Cleveland CavaliersRecord: 6-13 Cleveland is struggling to win games. This has to be resolved because Cleveland traded two picks away to San Antonio and committed long deals to both Wayman Tisdale and Tony Campbell. Mark Price has to be more assertive if this team is to improve. 27. Houston RocketsRecord: 5-12 Houston is definitely talented but for one reason or another, they are struggling. Glen Rice has taken a big jump forward and looks like an allstar in the making. They should be a lot better and don't be surprised for him to do just that. 28. Toronto RaptorsRecord: 4-12 This team is pinning its' hopes on two Mookie Blaylock and Vlade Divac. If those two can be all that they can be, then this team will spend more time out of the lottery than in it. 29. Minnesota TimberwolvesRecord: 3-10 Minnesota is terrible. I'm sure jebly is a happy man. I don't think this will be the last losing season in Minnesota. Edited by dnom81, Jul 20 2009, 06:46 AM.

Great writeup, man. I really like how much you have to say about each team. Quality PR's, for sure. Will there be more for the rest of the teams? |

Finished. Only gave a few sentences to teams #24 to #29 because it is easier and also because, there isn't much to write about teams that low. |
