Record: 9-3

Home of the league's best front court, the New York Knicks find themselves at #1 in this edition of our power rankings because of the numbers their starting bigmen bring to the table. (46.3 PPG) Don't be fooled by their blocks and rebounds, they are far better than they lead you on to believe. It's unbelievable that they were beaten by the Hornets last season but I don't think Jay Humphries will let history repeat itself.

Record: 12-5

I know the Hawks are good but I must confess, I am a doubter and maybe that is why my team was watching from the sideline last season. Reggie Miller has been insane in the first 17 games of the season with 31.5 points per game. I repeat that is not a typo. Another player turning heads is Michael Adams. 23 points and 10 assists? Come on. The league's most potent offense at 108 points a game doesn't want to slow down any time soon.

Record: 12-6

It is always hard to give props to my brother but the Hornets are the best of the three .667 teams out there. Boasting one of the most underrated stars in the league, Jerome Kersey is quietly leading one of the best defensive teams in the league to a great start. I think James Edwards is a terrible backup and Riley not much better. If they want to get far, they need to improve their bench.

Record: 14-7

Coleman should have been #1 or at least that is what he wants you to believe. Completely turning around one of the league's worst team's last season, Coleman's 21.7 points and 10.8 rebounds put him in the lead for rookie of the year. To be honest, I think he'll be able to keep this monster pace throughout the season with Mark Jackson feeding him the ball. Can Pippen be the #1 on a great team?

Posted Image5. Vancouver Grizzlies
Record: 12-6

The first and only western team to make an appearance in the top 5, the Grizzlies are building on last season's final appearance and trying to win the franchise's first championship. With a nice balanced roster, the Grizzlies are expected to come out of the west once again... unless the Nuggets pull it together.

Record: 11-6

Posted Image7. Sacramento Kings
Record: 11-6

Record: 12-7

Posted Image9. Dallas Mavericks
Record: 10-6

Record: 8-5
