We're going to need a bigger mop bucket

Detroit Pistons big man Patrick Ewing has won the March 1990 Player of the Month award, and his second of the year. He previously won it in December of 1989, and is the only player in the SSBL to win the award twice.

Ewing has helped the Pistons to a 42-32 record, as they eye the final playoff spot in the east, and will miss the next 3 days with a bruised hip. The two games in those three days are at home against the Hawks, and the Lakers. The Lakers' game is as important a game to win as any at this stage of the season for a playoff team in the eastern conference, but the Hawks' game will be very crucial, as the boys from Atlanta are one of the top teams in the league, and in the eastern conference, not to mention a rival of the Pistons.

Ewing's 24.6 ppg, and 11.0 rpg will be missed against the Hawks, but it's his league leading 4.1 bpg that will likely be missed the most. The guy brings back shades of Bill Russell with his ability to change games with his presence down low. When playing the Pistons, quite a few teams will adjust their game plan to avoid the big man in the paint. And to make matters worse, the Pistons have great Moses Malone at the 4 to direct people into Ewing. They've got a pretty nice tandem going on in Detroit. Too bad Moses is nearing the end of his career.

Be that as it may, Ewing is still one of the defensive greats in the league today, and most people paired with him in the front court would make for a perfect Robin to his Batman. He is just going to need some more help if he wants to win a championship. No one can do it alone. Imagine if the man had a supporting cast. Don't want to? I don't blame you.
