Player Spotlight: Michael Jordan; Player of the Month -- January 1990

Jordan at this years AS game w/ Magic Johnson

His Airness, Michael Jordan is the first player of the new year, and new decade to be named Player of the month. The 2 guard out of North Carolina soars into the 1990's -- almost as if announcing a new era. He is scoring 35.6 ppg, and with a record of 23-19 he has been the reason why the Bullets are now eying the playoffs.

Jordan has always been a good player, but watching him this season has been something of an eye opener to the fact that this guy is for real. Jordan is going to be dominating this league for years to come, and the scariest thing of all is that he is only going to get better.

Bullets fans are witnessing a young man entering the apex of his career, and are filling the seats at US Airways Arena to watch this guy show them something they have never seen before night after night. It's almost as if you're guaranteed to see something amazing at a Bullets game, no matter if you're in the Nation's Capitol, or Salt Lake City. If Michael Jordan is in the building, be prepared to spend some time after the game picking your jaw up off the floor. Also, don't be surprised to find yourself yelling in excitement after he has emblazoned 'Spalding' across your favorite player's forehead. He makes you forget where you're at -- he's that good.

The electrifying guard is not only a scorer, but he is a defensive mastermind as well. 4th in the league in steals, Jordan is as disruptive as they come. He treats every possession as if the game is on the line, and just by watching his body language on the court you can tell he is almost exploding with desire to win. Talking with the people he has defended, one gets the idea how fearsome Jordan really is.

"I've got to give the man respect -- Michael Jordan is on another world of playing basketball," said Celtics shooting guard Dell Curry. "But, it's his defense I fear the most. Everybody knows he's going to put up some big numbers, but having to be guarded by him all game is a nightmare. He just doesn't let up."

Being so damn good really makes one wonder if this guy is actually from this planet. Everyone said there would never be another Dr. J, but I've got to disagree at this point in time. Michael Jordan has already shown that he has what it takes to be the next Dr. J, and even better. With so much time ahead of him, Jordan has a lot of time to set some unattainable records in this league, and garner a whole lot of other good stuff, from contracts to endorsements.

This is but the tip of the iceberg.
