"1989 All-Star Weekend Preview" The All-Star weekend is an exciting time for most players, because they either get to rest or part-take in the festivities and events. The major events to headline the weekend are the 3 point contest, dunk contest, and the annual All-Star game. For this preview, the Rookie/Sophomore game will not be featured. Also, some highlight videos will be provided, so if you want to kill some time, watch them. This weekend has a lot of potential as it will be held in Houston, Texas in one of the World's Wonders, the Astrodome. ![]() The 3 point contest: This event are for the shooters. However, it's more of an event for spot up shooters than for shooters that are able to create their own shots. Also, players with strong legs do well because they can keep their stamina up. This should be a great event because the league has some really talented shooters. Here are my picks for the contestants: SF Larry Bird: Bird is known for his all-around game. However, with his unorthodox shot, he can light up any team from any spot on the floor. Bird has a really nice set shot and has really strong legs. Only shooting 34% this season, but I still like his chances. Link: Bird PG Michael Adams: Adams currently has the best 3 point shooting % at 51%. That is really solid but his size puts him at a disadvantage. He might get out the first round, but won't win it. Link: Adams SG Michael Jordan: Jordan can spot up but he's mostly a volume shooter creating his own shots. He is shooting a ncie 43% from 3 this season. Link: Jordan F Dale Ellis: Ellis has been the Raptors main attack weapon on offense, and he should be. He can score from anywhere on the floor, and just like Bird, he is tall and has strong legs. He's shooting 47% which is really solid. Link: Ellis SF Chris Mullin: The silky smooth lefty has really nice form and can also light it up from anywhere. Being a lefty, going from rack to rack might pose a problem. Link: Mullin SF Chuck Person: Person is a nice scorer and is tall and has strong legs. Person is all rhythm though, so if he's off forget about it. Link: Person SG Reggie Miller: Miller is shooting a nice 42% from 3, but he's more of a create-your-own-shot type of guy. He can spot up, but he's always on the move. Link: Miller 1989 3 Point Contest Winner: Dale Ellis ![]() Ellis' size, strength, and accuracy will help propel him in the 3 point contest Dunk contest: Besides the annual All-Star game, the dunk contest is one of the most exciting events that gets all the players and fans geared up. Of course this contest is about strength and athleticism, but cratiness is key in this event as well. This should be an awesome event with some great dunkers out there. Here are my picks for the contestants: SG Michael Jordan: Not only is Jordan the best player in the league, but he is the best dunker in this league. Air Jordan got his nickname for having the ability to glide in the air. Who knows what kind of dunks he'll put out ofhis sleeve. Link: Jordan SF Dominique Wilkins: The "Human Highlight Film" is not only a great scorer but great dunker and strong finisher. Everytime he dunks the ball, the glass is about to break everytime. Wilkins will have an advantage over Jordan if he goes before him. Link: Jordan SF Clyde Drexler: Drexler earned his nickname "The Glyde" because he can glide in mid-air. Drewler is really strong and athletic but he lacks creativity. Link: Drexler SF Jerome Kersey: Kersey had his better days earlier in his career, but he can still get up their regardless. He could be a darkhorse. Link: Kersey SF Kenny Walker: Walker is another darkhorse type. Really creative, loves to do 360's and pumps. Link: Walker PG Spud Webb: You have to cheer for him. He's been an underdog his whole life because of his size. But you cannot beat his heart. Link: Webb Dunk Contest Winner: Michael Jordan ![]() Jordan's athleticism and creatiivity will put him over the top All-Star Game: This is always the final event and features the best players of the season from each conference. This was not an easy pick, as both conferences are loaded with big time talent. My picks for the starting lineups: The East: C: David Robinson He can score, rebound, and defend. Leads by example. Averages: 29.3 pts, 12.9 rebs., 3.4 blocks Link: DRob PF: Charles Barkley The "Round Mound" is really athletic for his frame. He can score and rebound really well. Averages: 27.8 pts, 11.4 rebs. Link: Barkley SF: Larry Bird Bird can score from anywhere on the floor, very gritty. Averages: 27.4 pts, 9.3 rebs, 5.0 asts Link: Bird SG: Reggie Miller Miller plays with a lot of passion and fire, and is deadly from long range Averages: 26.7 pts, 48% FG%, 42% 3P% Link: Miller PG: Isiah Thomas Thomas plays with a lot of heart and is a good floor leader. Averages: 16.1 pts, 8.6 asts, 3.7 TOs Link: Thomas The West: C: Hakeem Olajuwon "The Dream" is having an MVP type season, and is the best C in the game. Averages: 25.7 pts, 14.6 rebs., 4.1 blocks Link: The Dream PF: Karl Malone Malone is one of the great scorers of this league. Averges: (18 games) 32.9 pts, 10.6 rebs, 52% FG% Link: Malone SF: Chuck Person The only bright spot for the Mavs this season, great scorer. Averages: 24.7 pts, 6.8 rebs Link: Person SG: Xavier McDaniel McDaniel has a good mid-range game to compliment his athleticism and good finishing skills around the basket. Averages: 21.8 pts, 6.1 rebs Link: McDaniel PG: Magic Johnson Johnson is having a terrific season, as he's the best PG in the league. He can do it all. Averages: 24.4 pts, 6.2 rebs, 9.8 asts, 3.7 TOs Link: Johnson All-Star Game MVP: Michael Jordan The All-Star game is made for guards, and he's the best right now. Watch out, he could do a clean sweep of awards, 3 point, Dunk, and All-Star game. ![]() Being the best player in the league, this was an easy choice Edited by Maverick41, Jun 15 2009, 04:57 AM.
