"1989 SSBLv3 PR's" The highly anticipated season has started, with GM's taking part in analyzing mainly how their draft translated. The Celtics have been the gem so far and it'll be interesting to see if they can keep it up. Some teams, like the Rox and Spurs under-performed this Sim #1 and will look to bounce back. Let's take a look at each team's performances thus far: 1. Boston Celtics Way to shut the critics, for now. The Celtics have jumped to an early best-record in the league thanks to the great play of SF Larry Bird. For a 32 year-old, he's still got it. Outside of Bird, the Celtics have been able to play really good defense and have kept their TO's down to league-low 11.1 TOs. The Celtics are disappointed with Curry's offensive output and they should be. Bird has one of the smoothest strokes in the game2. Atlanta Hawks The Hawks have started off really well, going 6-1. They are lead by their young star, SG Reggie Miller. Miller is #5 on the league scoring leaders at 28.0 pts a game. Pretty impressive. They also have a darn good defense, led by the shot blocking of Eaton and the quick hands of Adams. They also keep their TO's low at 11.6 TO's a game. Reggie Miller has been a scoring machine for the Hawks3. Seattle Supersonics The Sonics are led by their PG John Stockton and team leading scorer, GF Xavier McDaniel. One thing about Stockton though is his uncharacteristically high TO avg. I see that dropping with time getting adjusted to new teammates. The Sonics could use some shot blocking. Stockton has helped lead the Sonics to a great start4. Vancouver Grizzlies The Grizzlies sit a top of the West as of right now. One thing that surely has helped them achieve a great start has been their point differential, which is excellent. They score the 3rd most points in the league, and therefore, have really balanced scoring from every postition. Nanca and Lewis have been doing most of the scoring for the Grizz. As of right now, the Grizz have shown no real weakness. However, maybe a better shot blocker off the bench or something would really help. Nance has helped the Grizz claim the #1 spot in the West5. New York Knicks Their GM was quoted as saying that he was highly disappointed with their draft. Well sitting at #5 spot to start the season, I don't think there's much to be disappointed about. The Knicks also boast a nice point differential. One thing I give credit to their GM is forming a really nice frontcourt duo of Tarpley and Smits. Smits will score and block shots, while Tarpley will do scoring too, but excellent rebounding. Tarpley has provided excellent scoring and even better rebounding6. Cleveland Cavaliers The Cavs have the league's 2nd leading scorer, Dominique Wilkins. He has helped them have the 2nd best offense in the league. Not only Wilkins, but Hornacek has played pretty well as their #2 guy. Their point differential is not the best, but it has been good enough to help get off to a good start. 7. Sacramento Kings The first shocker of the rankings is apparently not so shocking to their GM as he believes they are the best team and will win the Ship. Hawkins has been super efficient, only having 0.6 TOs a game. Corbin has been their leading scorer. I highly doubt the Kings can keep this up, but we'll see what happens. 8. Washington Bullets I'm kind of confused as to what the Bullets want to do, but maybe they should be leaning on winning. MJ and McHale have been able to form a very nice duo, wit MJ being the leagues best scorer. They could use a lot better consistency at the C position and cut down on those TO's. 9. Miami Heat THe Heat's franchise player shows why he was the 2nd player taken in the draft. He is avg. studly numbers, and has shown he is superstar in this league at 24. Perkins and Anderson have been good supporting players, but they could use a lot better PG than Skiles. They turn the ball over a lot and their point differential is not good at all. THe Heat should be dropping in the rankings. 10. LA Lakers The Lakers probably don't want to be at this position, well not this year. Their fonrcourt has been really nice, with Kemp, Green, and Gilliam all scoring nicely. They have a decent point differential and their TOs aren't that high really. 11. Golden State Warriors The Warriors are led by "The Dream" and he has started off the season to a nasty start. However, outside of Olajuwon and Bogues, they have avg. role players. Therefore, it'll be tough for the Warriors to make a deep run. If they can get a legit #2 type guy, they could make some noise, but until then, who knows if they make the playoffs. They also need to improve their point differential. 12. Charlotte Hornets The Hornets got a lot of hate from their draft, but have started off to a decent start. Benjamin has been their leading scorer, which is weird inless he's their #1 option (which would be even weirder). They have a really nice point differential to the start of the season, and it should be interesting to see if they can keep it up. 13. Detroit Pistons The Pistons have started off to a decent start, but I know their GM was a little disappointed. This team is pretty balanced. I mean, I'm still trying to figure out how they avg. 25.1 assists with only 11.9 TOs. Also, I don't know if he's done but Malone is avg. a low amount of rebs. Therefore, the Pistons are towards the bottom is rebs. per game. They could also improve their point differential. 14. Utah Jazz The Jazz are off to a decent start, but there's nothing decent about Lever as he's off to a really nice start. Pierce has shown some signs of aging and Rony is still needs to improve his game. The Jazz need to improve their point differential and bring in a big time rebounder. 16. Denver Nuggets Their GM was quoted saying that he was disappointed with the Nuggets start, but it's only the beginning of the season. Magic has started off the season extremely well, putting up really ncie avgs. Outside of Magic, Bowie has started off slow along with the rest of the supporting cast. To be a better team, the Nuggets need to cut down on TOs and improve their point differential. 16. Phoenix Suns The Suns have started off to a surprisingly nice start. King and Duckworth have been their leading scorers. I don't know if they will be able to keep up as a playoff team, considering their GM wants to build for the future. 17. Chicago Bulls The Bulls GM is pretty disappointed with their start. Mullin is playing really nasty as the SF position, along with West and Daugherty being nice scoring options as well. This team has holes however at SG and PG. They need improvements there and their point differential needs to get a lot better. 18. Orlando Magic The Magic are off to a bad start considering what kind of team they have built. However, some weaknesses can already be spotted out. Their rebounding definitely needs improvement. Thompson is not playing his role as the rebounder they need. Also, their point differential is +1.2, so that needs to get better as well. Other than that, their big 3 of Drexler, Smith, and Thomas are off to solid starts. 19. Dallas Mavericks Their GM was a little surprised with their start, as they are currently 0.5 game back from the 8th spot in the West. However, there's nothing to be surprised about Jackson's and Person's early play. Jackson shows that he will be a very nice true PG in this league, and Person is a flat out scorer. Marciulionis has also shown signs of being a decent scorer. 20. Houston Rockets The Rockets have the best offense in the league but also the worst defense. That won't get it done for them if they want to be contenders. Also, they need some better rebounding. If they could trade Rice for an upgrade at SG and SF defensively without giving up scoring, I would probably go for it. 21. Portland Trailblazers The Trailblazers are off to a slow start, but Malone has been great to start. He's scoring really well but his rebounding #'s really need to improve. Of all players, I didn't know Blair Rasmussen could score. Drazen has shown some signs of being good but this team needs improvements across the board. 22. New Jersey Nets The Nets have many improvements they need to do. Their point differential, rebounding, TOs, and shot blocking all need to improve. Cummings and Richmond have been their best players. 23. Philadelphia 76ers The Sixers best player has been Charles Barkley. Barkley can score and rebound really well. Outside of Barkely, this team is really avg. Their point differential needs improvement to begin with. 24. San Antonio Spurs The Spurs find themselves where they list would expect to start the season. Their GM is obviously optimistic that this was some sort of fluke which I believe so. However, there are some glaring needs that if the Spurs fix, they will be a lot better. To start, their shot blocking stinks. Oakley has 0 blocks to start the season at the PF position. Their rebounding also needs improvement. 25. Milwaukee Bucks The Bucks find themselves where they surely don't want to be at the end of the season. Anderson has been a nice surprise, but Harper and Hardaway are obviously not ready to carry this team. Their frontcourt needs improvement and their point differential is terrible. 26. Los Angeles Clippers The Clippers best player has been their cornerstone, F Danny Manning. Strickland has been decent but everyone outside those two are avg. for the Clippers. 27. Toronto Raptors The Raptors are off to a bad start. I know their GM has gotten a lot of crap from that Divac pick, but it looks even more worse just based on his avgs. Ellis has been the scorer I was expecting him to be. 28. Minnesota Timberwolves Detlef Schrempf has been their leading scorer , with KJ is off to a decent start. However, he needs to cut down on his TOs. Uncle Cliffy's shot blocking has been a surprise. 29. Indiana Pacers I didn't think they were going to be a great team this season, but I also didn't think they were going to be this bad. Pippen and Smith have a lot of growing up to do.
