Official SSBLv3 Creation Draft Preview As the Creation Draft is almost underway, teams are either staying put with their picks or trying to move up somehow. There’s so much talent in this draft that a team can easily choose whether or not to go for it all the first season or just play it cool and try and start a team from scratch. This article is meant to highlight players in certain categories. The perfect franchise starters: This was tough to determine because there’s so much talent and big names in the draft, but broke it down to 3 players. SG Michael Jordan: At 26, MJ still has great years left in him. He is a true competitor filled with great passion for the game and a knack for winning. He can do it all, being a top scorer and defender. Before it’s all said and done, he could be one of the best SSBLv3 has seen. ![]() Jordan should probably go #1 C David Robinson: At 24, DRob is the youngest of this group, and is the top defender entering this draft. DRob may be quiet, but he leads by example. Also, he has a great work ethic, so it’s scary the he could get any better than he is right now. With that said, depending on the way you look at it, he could easily be the top pick in this draft. ![]() Some could argue DRob is the top pick C Hakeem Olajuwon: “The Dream” enters the draft at age 26, which considering that he is a big man, perfect to start a franchise with. “The Dream” is the full package, being able to score, defend, and rebound with the best. I like him as a top pick, but his potential has to be of concern as it probably isn’t too high. ![]() "The Dream" is top 3 pick for sure I’m Old, but will help a team win a ship: These guys could easily be top picks, but age is a big concern with them. These players will go to teams that think they will have what it takes to win the ship. PG Magic Johnson At 30 and a PG, Johnson is at the peak level. That’s fine when you are already one of the top PG’s in this draft. Johnson has some good years left in him, but how many before he starts to decline? SF Larry Bird At 32, Bird is a big risk. However, he brings the whole package, considering he’s a SF. He knows how to win, so if you think you got what it takes to win it all, he’s your guy. C Robert Parish This is the biggest risk of them all since he’s 36. Parish has been healthy enough to have a very long career. Parish is a decent scorer and shot blocker, but rebounding is his thing. All I have to say, draft wisely. PF Kevin McHale At 31, McHale is a big, so less risky. McHale brings a great attitude and will be a great locker room presence. Has one of the best hook shots in the game. C Bill Laimbeer Laimbeer was part of the “Bad Boys” in Detroit, so he plays with great passion and toughness. He’s 32 and not the scorer and rebounder he was earlier in his career. I’m young and full of potential…..wink wink: This is a list of the youngns’ who either have nice potential or not. C Vlade Divac Divac is an international player from Serbia, but brings toughness and passion past international players didn’t bring. Divac is still raw, but already a nice defender. He should become a better scorer and rebounder as his career progresses. Definitely worth taking in the 1st rd. PF Shawn Kemp Kemp comes in the draft at age 19. He is no doubt one of the most athletic players in the draft. Kemp is extremely raw, but already a good defender. You would think he also has nice potential, with it having a chance to go up since he’s young. Top 10 pick for sure. PF Clifford Robinson “Uncle Cliffy” is listed as a PF, but probably has potential to become a nice SF. At 22, he still has time to improve his outside, defense, and inside. He’s a very fiery player who brings toughness. SF Sean Elliot Not granting this guy to be a top pick at all, but he’s 21 and has potential to be a decent scorer. SG Nick Anderson Same thing with Anderson as Elliot. Much better defender though. SF George McCloud Comes in raw, but could develop into a nice shooter. SF Glen Rice This guy knows how to score. Big concern with him is his health and defense. His scoring will probably improve on its own, but any team that drafts this guy will need to focus on his defense. Worth taking in the 1st rd or early 2nd. SG Rex Chapman Chapman comes in as a weak defender, but a decent scorer. Only 22, definitely has room to improve. PG Mookie Blaylock Blaylock comes into the league with great hands for stealing the ball. He’s quick and savvy, but will need to improve his scoring and ball handling for sure. SG Willie Anderson Anderson comes in as a decent defender and scorer and above avg. ball handler for a SG. Should become a decent scorer. PG Rod Strickland Strickland comes in as one of the top young PG’s of this draft. He might be raw with scoring right now, but he is already a nice ball handler and defender. C Rik Smits Smits is tall and lean, but can score. One thing that’s a negative with him is his lack of rebounding. If you draft him, you better have a great rebounder at PF. PG Pooh Richardson Already a nice defender, should develop into a better ball handler and decent scorer. SF Chris Morris Morris comes in the draft as a better rounded scorer than his younger counterparts, but already a nice defender. He’s 23, and I only see him getting better. SF Danny Manning One of the greats to come out of Kansas, Manning brings a great mid-range game. Definitely has to have potential, but needs work on the defensive end. SG Reggie Lewis Lewis comes into the draft known for his scoring. He has potential to be one of the best scorers in the league. PG Kevin Johnson This guy comes in as one of the best young PG’s. He is all heart and as scrappy as they come. Should definitely become a better scorer within his career. PG Hersey Hawkins I like this guy at SG better with his ability to stretch the floor because of his range. He comes into the draft as the top 10 best shooters. PG Tim Hardaway Timmy is extremely quick and can finish well at the basket. He’ll need to develop his jumper better. He also has a sick crossover, which was nicknamed the UTEP Two-Step. He has potential to be one of the most complete PG’s in the league. PG Sherman Douglas Douglas is a great floor leader but needs work on his scoring. He would be a nice 2nd rounder. PF Roy Tarpley Tarpley is a very complete player at age 24. His inside scoring could improve, but he is already an excellent defender and rebounder. PG Kenny Smith Kenny “The Jet” Smith has the ability to finish at the basket but also drain the 3 ball. He’s still raw, but I see him turning into a nice PG. C Rony Seikaly Pretty boy Seikaly has sexy ratings at age 24. Rony should turn out to be a very nice big man in the near future. He needs work on inside scoring and rebounding. SG Mitch Richmond Richmond has the potential to become a very special player, especially on the offensive end. He definitely has the potential to become a top scorer in this league. SF Scottie Pippen Pippen is the best SF coming into the draft. He is an excellent defender and athletic. His shooting is raw, but he has one of the best work ethics around. He has the potential to become a great all around player. SG Reggie Miller Miller comes into the draft as the 4th best shooter. He also is very clutch in crucial moments. Yes, Miller can score, but will he be able to become a better defender? PG Vernon Maxwell I prefer Maxwell at SG just like Hawkins because of his height and scoring abilities, but Maxwell is not big or strong enough. Regardless, Maxwell should become a deadly scorer and better defender. PG Mark Jackson This PG brings his toughness and heart every single night. He may not be a top notch scorer, but he can for sure handle the ball extremely well. Look for him to have an excellent assist/turnover ratio. PF Horace Grant Grant is not a lotto type player by no means, but he has potential to be a serviceable big man on any team. He will be a nice defender and decent rebounder. C Brad Daugherty As a big man, Daugherty might not be the best shot blocker around, but his ability to score and rebound make up for it. He has the potential to become one of the best scoring big men in the league. PG Muggsy Bogues Bogues may not score or be a scorer at all within his career, but he can surely handle the ball. He comes in as the 3rd best ball handler in the draft. His size could be a negative factor. C Benoit Benjamin Benjamin comes into the draft as an excellent defender, having the ability to block shots at a high level. Benjamin will never be a scorer, but you can guarantee good shot blocking and rebounding avgs. from him throughout his career. PF Pervis Ellison Very talented PF, but injuries a huge factor with him. Has the potential to be a 20/10 type player. The rest of the “scrubs”: These players are a mix within the age of 25-32. PF Dennis Rodman Won’t score a lot of points, but sure as hell can defend and rebound. His mental state is a HUGE factor. C Patrick Ewing Ewing is one of the best overall big men in the draft. He can score, defend, and rebound all at high levels. Should go top 5. PG John Stockton Stockton is the top ball handler in the draft. He is also an excellent defender. If you want a true PG, this is your guy. Another big thing with him is his lack of injuries. That’s a important thing, considering he’s a PG. Look for Stockton to have a great long career. PG Fat Lever He comes in at peak level, but more of a scoring PG than passing PG. Good defender as well. SG Derek Harper Harper is a great combo guard to have. Not only is he a good defender from both positions, but he can handle the ball as has the ability to knock down shots from all over the floor. C Mark Eaton An excellent shot blocker, will be one of the best this league has to offer. 32 though. SG Ron Harper Harper is still fairly raw, but has potential to be a nice combo guard. Definitely needs to improve his shooting and ball handling though. SF Dominique Wilkins Wilkins is one of the most athletic players in this draft. He may not shoot the ball well, but it doesn’t matter with Wilkins. He’ll get to the FT line and put up 20+ a game. SF Ken Norman Norman should become a decent scorer in this league. PG Isiah Thomas Thomas is tough and plays with a lot of heart. He’s an overall great PG because of his ability to handle the ball and score points. PG Terry Porter Porter can handle the ball well and score efficiently with his nice jump shot. SF Chris Mullin The lefty shooter has a deadly shot and at SF, one of the best scoring SF’s. SG Dell Curry Curry is an excellent shooter. He is a nice fit at SG with his size and defense. C Sam Bowie Very talented big man but could be plagued with injuries. SG Jeff Hornacek Hornacek is another good combo guard. His ball handling could improve, but he’s already a good scorer and defender. SF Clyde Drexler Clyde “The Glide” Drexler earned that nickname because of his ability to finish at the basket. He’s really good in transition. His shooting abilities bother me. PG Mark Price Price is the G.O.A.T. at FT shooting. That should translate well to a nice shooting tough from the field and 3. Great player to have down the stretch when FT shooting is crucial. PG Johnny Dawkins Has the ability to be a 14/8 type player. C Moses Malone He’s 34, but can still play. Will definitely be able to rebound the ball. PF James Worthy Worthy is definitely worth being a 1st rd or high 2nd rd pick. His game is finesse but he can definitely score. C Jack Sikma Sikma is not your typical C. He has the ability to stretch the floor with his shooting ability. Therefore, he’s a nice scorer. However, he’s 33. PF Karl Malone Malone comes in as one of the best PF’s in this draft. Malone is tough and strong and a great scorer. “The Mailman” will be delivering on any team he goes to. PF Charles Barkley Barkley has a knack for the ball. Not only can he score but he can rebound extremely well. He comes in as the 3rd best rebounder in the draft. F Xavier McDaniel SF Johnny Newman PF Cadillac Anderson PF Kevin Willis PF Charles Oakley G Joe Dumars F Terry Cummings PF Wayman Tisdale Edited by Maverick41, May 25 2009, 06:34 AM.
