Cloverfield - 9/10 - Awesome, fantastically well paced and genuinely tense throughout... well acted also by a cast of relative unknowns and definitely (for me at least) lived up to the hype... resist all the spoilers and go watch it for yourself ;) my only reservation would be if it really needs a sequel at all?!

I saw Jumper at the weekend. Really enjoyed it. Ridiculous escapist nonsense. And Rachel Bilson :$

Gotta a whole lotta love for the first Battle Royale. The second one not so much... :-/

Hit-man successfully retains the necessary seriousness inherent in the subject matter and while it rarely covers new ground in the action-adventure genre, it also never slips into silly mockery and it still provides plenty of references to its video game roots.

John Rambo

If you like your action flicks with an easy to follow story line and body parts flying left, right and centre, you can't go wrong with this movie.

jumper is more like a pilot episode for a shit sci-fi prog. could have been much better, and probably saved by some decent acting. if this was no namers it'd be straight to dvd.

Watched Black Sheep at the weekend.
Lots of blood and gore and a few funnyish moments but not a patch on Shaun of the Dead.
5/10.

Saw two films last night which i've not seen before:

Beerfest: Typical 'old school' clone, very heavy on the foreign stereotypes. For it's intended audience age range not enough naked women and to many male hookers. However overall very enjoyable and i learnt some new drinking games.

The Crow - Wicked Prayer: I think this is the 4th crow film (only seen the first) and despite its many flaws i really liked it. Surprisingly star filled (or at least recognisable actors) including Dennis hopper, David Boreanaz (Angel), Tara Reid (the straightest role i've ever seen her in, despite being a satanist ex-whore), Marcus Chong (Tank from the matrix), Danny Trejo (Loads of minor roles) and starring John Connor from Terminator 2.

House of the flying daggers -- fucking great film , every scene is beutifully done , the fight scenes are pretty and the twists to the plot are cunning also..
9/10 for me

sonata - lol this is the worst made movie ive seen in a very long time , its billed as an "edge of your seat psycological horror" but in reality NOTHING happens for the first 75 min , the movie just moves extremely slowly - seriously the first hour could be CUT in this 90min film.
This move could have been classified a 12 imo as there is nothing romotely bad happening here , the "mother" looks like that bloke whos the headmistress in ST Trinnians LOL which is a nice touch!

The pauses between each actors words is awful and dosent add tension -
the main character is Pretty fit and can act a bit , but thats the only reason to give this 1/10 - we did have a good laff pulling it to bits AND its the most ive written about a Movie so lets make it
2/10 (watch it !!!)

rise: blood hunter. 1/2 out of 10. what a steaming pile of horse shit. i thought a vampire movie with lucy lui as a revenge seeking vamp killer might be o.k. boy was a sadly mistaken. some decent actors in it to. that guy from the shield and thing from the fantastic four is in it and he's shit aswell. marilyn manson is in it for about 3 minutes and he's does the best acting in the thing. there are some raunchy flesh shots, but not enough to warrant sitting through this 2 hour pile of turgid drivel.

last night we has atotal of 2hrs45mins in tea breaks LOL .....

we watched...

CUBE - poorly acted , bad sets with a reasonably good plot messed up by the script - shame you cant help figure how to work out the "puzzles" ( i like shite movies as they are a laff)
3/10 -( we watched this monday btw)

CUBE 2 (hypercube) - better acting , better sets , cliched characters ,same plot ,sameish script - but as "this time there are no rules" it seems pointless as there is no fun in trying to help figure a way out of the Cube - daft
(4/10)

STEVE-O - not a movie just a 60min collection of dumbass jackass goofball STEVE-O , it will make you squirm and bawlk and no where as funny as the "mouse in the snake tank " skit or the "boxingglove thru the door"(if u know that !!!)
5/10

Warrior King - 4/10
Haven't seen Ong Bak (although i'd heard about it) so when I stuck this in it was a complete surprise. Absolutely awful plot, terrible acting - something about an elephant, just awful awful awful.

However;

Some of the best martial arts scenes ever. Without a shadow of a doubt some of the stunt guys went to hospital. Tony Jaa equals if not surpasses Bruce Lee.

Shite and pointless plot but if you get chance, i'd recommend it.

Please Teach Me English 5/10
South Korean rom-com revolving around people taking an English class. Quite good but to much Asian style silly bits (i.e animations and nonsensical day-dream sequences.)

Only came across it because i'm looking into doing a TESOL course and doing a year+ of teaching in S Korea. It came up on a websearch.

Office Space - 6/10

a comedy directed by Mike Judge (the guy that did beavis and butthead)
this was recommended to me by a guy from work and seeing how i loved beavis and butthead i have it a crack.
wasn't as funny as i expected but still got a giggle in places. plot mainly revolves around a guy that hates his job and undergoes hypno-therapy to become more chilled out but the therapy kind of works too well.
no-one really famous in it apart from jennifer anniston who plays the g/f role quite well.
on the whole not bad for £3 in the HMV sale ^_^

I am Legend 8/10

Very polished film. Will Smith does well in the lead role and some nice action in it. Recommended. ^_^

30 Days of Night 5/10

Quote on the box says "the best vampire film in decades". PAH! bullshit.
Couple of good gore scenes but about from that a very boring and predictable film.

The eye - 8/10

Saw it friday at the flicks. im usually pretty sceptical when it comes to horror films, particularly american re-makes of japanese horrors and this was no exception. but i was pleasantly suprised.
decent performance from jessica alba and some scary jumpy moments.
i'd probably watch it again, but i don't think i'd buy it

21 - 8/10

Good film about a bunch of MIT students who use card counting to win at blackjack in Vegas. Its based on real events although given the Hollywood twist (i.e., giving the main character an ethical justification, making the group primarily beautiful white people instead of a bunch of Asian nerds).

One thing that i thought was quite stupid for the main character to do was keeping all his winnings in his room instead of opening several bank accounts.

Totally changed my view of counting cards. From watching things like Rain Man and Derren Brown i always thought it involved remembering every card dealt, however it's just simple maths.

rise of the foot soldier - 7/10

not a bad film, graphic violence and loads of swearing, sex and drugs by cockney wide boys. it's a good story but could have been fleshed out a bit. it was a poor copy one of the lads had out with him so i might have given it more if i could hear everything properly. the soundtrack was pretty poor considering the content of the film.

the DEPARTED - a great film set in boston , starring De Caprio , Damon ,Wahlberg ,Winstone and a show stealing performance by Jack Nicholson

is basically a cop sent undercover to infiltrate the boston gang scene and a gang member infiltrates the cops to discover "the mole" - plenty of twists and With Jack Nicholson chomping on all the scerary makes it worth the watch alone - check out the "theres a rat" scene - he is fucking bombed out lol, 8/10

If you've seen the Japanese Police Story films then The Departed is a western version , exactly the same in almost every detail. The Yakuza/Gangster character is expanded to fit in old Jacko's ego but it's better for it.

If subtitles isn't your thing though then I agree, it's thoroughly recommended. Great story, great cast with memorable characters, it's just a really good film. I'd already seen Police Story and still watched this till the end, so it must be good!

9/10

police story - as in jackie chan ? blimey i loved those movies , and altho i read it was an adaptation of another film i never realised it was Police story - - - on the subject of police story 1/2 was that where Chan has the epic fight scene in a shopping mall where his stunt almost kills him , n where he grabs is "girl" by the bag as she tries to leave on her scooter (brillian moment that LOL!!)

Iron Man 7/10

A bit long winded but a good film.

Was never really a big Iron Man fan for the same reason i was never a big Batman, they are not really superheroes just rich blokes with way too much money so they have a crime fighting hobby. At least Batman had a real convincing motivation (murdered parents) and a more darker theme despite the gay hintings (always hated Robin)
