Here are some brief details on Call of Duty 5 or Call of Duty:World at War as it will be titled which Treyarch have said that the game will be a lot more grittier that past CoD's and the enemy will be scarier and use new tactics:

1. The game will use the CoD 4 engine and will include a perks system.
2. For the first time it will have 4 player co-op.
3. The multiplayer will have vehicles and squad-based elements.
4. Players will get to use a flame thrower, but not sure if it will be included in the multiplayer.
5. And the game will be set in the Pacific theatre of World War II.

Also, this is how gritty it is: ‘The opening scene of the first level we are shown is a Japanese commander stubbing a cigarette out in the eye of a prisoner before slitting his throat - the blood splatters and dribbles down the side of the tent you are being held in. He turns towards you to deal out the same treatment but help arrives just in time. Cue a daring level-long escape.

A trailer will be released this weekend on Xbox Live and will feature in-game footage, but I imagine it will be like the CoD 4 trailer, pretty but won't give much away.
Also some screenshots have been leaked (not suppose to be released till June 23rd) and can be checked out here

i've just read a heap of web news about this game and i've kinda changed my view from indifferent to quite excited. treyarch have been working on this for nigh on 2 years, when i thought it was going to be a rush job to ride the coat tails of cod4. they have been working closely with infinity ward and use the same engine and multiplayer map design tools (i.e using single/co-op levels as multiplayer maps) they changed the enemy a.i so the japs don't fight like europeans or rag head fundamentalists. the perk and experiance system will remain, but you also unlock things from the single/co-op game to be used in the m/p side of things, not sure if it's perks or weapons or maybe both. there will be vehicles in the multi-player, but they will be balanced and all maps will have areas where it will be impossible to attack using vehicles to keep with the infantry theme of all the other games. the katana's seen in the vid aren't playable at the moment, but thats up for debate, so far only knives and bayonettes for mellee weapons. the game is pretty much finished. they are spending the remaining time tweaking evrything so its better than cod4(seemingly infinity ward are helping them make it so...) more and more info is getting leaked all the time. oh yeah, water and fire will play a part in this aswell. with boats and amphibious vehilces plus the wind direction can fuck up a flame thrower attack and the vegetation around you is combustible so you can paint yourself into a sticky corner. straw huts can be shot through to make sniper hidey holes, but that also means you can be shot at.

sounds better does it not?

charlieoscardelta.com is no longer the place for cod info, they've moved to callofduty.com

don't know if it's worth it or not but there is a website upgrade to v.i.p status for a limited time. after that to get the content you have to rank up by posting and doing stunts on the forums. i did it but i'm guessing any vids or news on the site won't stay exclusive for long.

ive said it before n ill say it again - if ppl are gonna make a FFS keep fucking vehicles out of the game , or keep it games like battlefield , vehicles kill the fun in halo , are too powerful in VCTF on unreal (except the hovverboard) and are just too cheesey .

dunno why devs' think they add to the game , as all i see is it lets ppl whore around with impunity from those of us who like our FPS shooters the traditional way :p

i agree daz entirely

there aint no need to add vehicles and all that extra shit

personaly i would rather just have seen some new maps and new features added to the existing cod4

i think the problem they have is cod4 is just gonna be a nightmare to beat in terms of online gameplay, they are searching for something a little differant

they could do themselves more harm than good, they should keep vehicles out of it and just make a larger , more improved version

maybe something like call a tank in for 4 kills or something

why change something that works so well?

Cool idea about the tank support Mick. It could work really well by giving it an area to patrol/defend like you can pinpoint an airstrike. Could be a really cool support weapon. As for vehicles in games, I've yet to find one that works well without unbalancing the game. With Battlefield, when you're used to the vehicles, people spawn kill for fun in them, which ruins the whole point of playing the game....

i think they realize how one sided things can get with vehicles, i've read about non vehicle playlists and big area's of maps that will be an infantry only sort of deal. but i'm looking forward to a bit of tank deathmatch.

now if they added COD3's WAR mode , which basically was territories on much bigger maps than cod4 - and included temporary AI tank support that would be cool - tho i remember ppl complaining WARs maps were too big , i found that as ppl moved from area to area u was always in the thich of the action

big map then use the feckin radar, not hard, or listen to where the fighting is, or talk to your team mates, piece of piss. there is always a way to play a game.

though i don't like vehicles on a fps like cod, they take the piss, hopefully they do add an option to turn the cunts off!

I think the MP for this game should be released as a beta like cod4 so that it can be seriously playtested, or it should at least have a sizeable MP demo before release. I think vehicles are good if the map and gameplay supports them (such as opflashpoint) but again I would hate to be designated driver, unless its in a king tiger tank...

I never played cod3 simply for the fact that I bought cod2 and couldn't see my way past it MP-wise. Skipped to cod4 then.

But yeah, bring on the flamethrowers!!!

The monkey perk seems an odd one unless it means you can drop down on to someone and kill em
And I can see the Banzai perk being annoying.

well steer clear of the allied weapons (smg/assault rifles)
best guns there are
MP40
MP44
PPSH bananaclip

rifles are better as an allied player tho

i hope on MP you can choose your weapon and its not decided by which team u spawn as - coz in COD 2 the Thompson gun was shit esp when compared to the weapon weighting in Return to castle wolfenstein .

anyways when it comes to sniper rifles theres gonna be no Low recoil rifles and no rapid fire ones either - that should sort the tree huggers out !!!

Well i've been reading quite abit about COD 5 in mags and on the internet and i have to admit i'm getting worried. It sounds like there trying to come up with a lot of different perks and stuff to justify it from COD 4.
I'll wait and see how it goes in MP before i even think about this one.
Gotta say though i am sceptical at the moment. :119

Some more info:

Quote:

GAMETYPES

CTF

CTF is back. A big hit in the original CoD and in CoD2, it was absent in CoD4 and was highly missed by gamers. Treyarch must have noticed that CTF was one of the first gametypes modded into CoD4 by the community. While CTF never did catch on, even on proven CTF maps, hopefully it will fare better in CoD:WW.

War

A new gametype that will allow you to drive vehicles in Multiplayer.

REWARDING SUCCESS

Did I mention how much we hated the Helo and Airstrikes in CoD4? Sadly, non-player controlled MP elements are back in WW: a fact that was foretold to us by Josh when we interviewed him in BASH 77 last week. Note that CoD:WW has kept a lot of this type of commonality in CoD4, whose gaming engine it is using, so as not to unbalance gameplay.

Recon Plane

Frag three of the enemy without dying and you get to deploy the recon plane. It temporarily shows you the location of your foe on a RADAR box in the top left of your screen. This of course matches the UAV in CoD4.

Artillery Strike

Frag five enemy combatants and you get to select a strike zone on the map. A few seconds later...whammo! The artillery shells hit the target. This of course replaces CoD4's dreaded aimbot Helo.

Dogs of War

In a bizarre twist, if you frag seven enemy soldiers, you get to release Attack Dogs onto your foe. The dogs chase down and kill the enemy. They will also see out any camped units hiding in the weeds. DoW replaces the CoD4 Airstrike.

ATTACHMENTS

Scopes

Rifles and SMG's will get aperture sights, telescopic sights and sniper scopes

Bipod

A constant in just about any CoD mod ever developed, a Bipod will be available for snipers and MG'ers. You will be able to use it in the prone position to reduce recoil. This attachment makes us us ask the obvious question: is everything bi- these days?

Enlarging your Magazine

You can add a dual magazine or drum magazine onto your weapon for even more praying and spraying ability.

Suppressors

Suppressors hide muzzle flash and somewhat quiet your weapon - but this will undoubtedly come at a cost as the hit power will be marginally less.

Double-barreled Shotty

A double-barreled shotgun will be available. You can "saw-off" the barrel on these to make the gun an overpowered short distance killing machine. Enormous spread for a short distance. Let the "super-noober-toober" chants begin.

Bayonets

The bayonet allows you to extend the reach of the combat knife. This could be quite interesting as knife vs. bayonet only fights would be quite the spectacle.

Flak-Jacket

The new Juggernaut. A grenade-resistant flak jacket will allow you to survive more punishment - undoubtedly at a cost to movement.

THE PERKS

In CoD4, the more you played, the more stuff you unlocked in the game. These were called perks: better gun, attachment and ability unlocks. As you can imagine, "Perks" became an instant fave online in CoD4. There are fifteen new perks in CoD: WW...many are simply renamed CoD4 perks, but some are brand new and specific to WW.

M2 Flamethrower

High level unlock, the flamethrower has been featured as one of the must-see weapons in CoD: WW.

Pyromaniac

Extends the damage range of your grenades - the WWII version of Sonic Boom

Satchel Charge

WWII's C4. You can damage infantry and of course tanks if you place them on the treads.

Bouncing Betty

CoD4's Back-to-the-Future Claymore. These seriously dangerous devices were mines that would spring upward if triggered, spraying fragments at a height that would not just mame ...but kill.

Bazooka

Unhappy with your tiny weapon are you? Grab the bazooka. Size does matter and you can destroy tanks with it! Much more destructive than those silly CoD4 RPG's.

Flak Jacket

The new Juggernaut. Get added health benefits (or come to Canada - they're free here).

Shades

To counter the flare (the CoD: WW flash-bang, which lasts quite a lot longer), you can use "shades" which reduce the blinding effect.

Gas Mask

Reduces the effects of the Tabun nerve gas weapon.

Second Chance

Last-Stand with a twist. As in CoD4's Perk, when you get fragged, you drop to the ground for a few more seconds with only a pistol as a weapon. You lie there waiting for death...however, in CoD: WW, as reported here a few days ago, the new "Second Chance" perk lets you get resuscitated by a teammate who also has Second Chance. This is a nice idea, but I suspect that it will get both you and your teammate killed more frequently.

Fire Proof

A counter to the Molotov cocktail and the Flamethrower.

Dexterity

The new Sleight-of-Hand. This will allow faster reloads and allows you to throw Molotov's and set Bouncing Betty's faster.

Greased Bearings

Allows you to traverse faster with the main gun, and thus get to targets quicker, when you are fighting in a tank.

Ordinance Training

Boost the firing rate of the tank's main gun.

Water Cooler

The tank's machine gun can overheat unless you have this perk.

Lead Foot

Boost the speed of your tank

Not clear if the dogs attack one person or run around the map randomly killing people which would kind of replace the helo.
And also I wonder if you can defend yourself by shooting the dogs

this is starting to sound good. I reckon the dogs of war will be harder to defend against than the helicopter since everyone on one team can more or less shoot at it because helis are one single target. It's just getting them to do that. Dogs will move faster and independantly, I'm hoping - and you will get to use that neck snap move that was so cool in the single player of cod4 to defend yourself... that dog of war perk was a rumour on 402 for cod4 btw.

The vehicles will be good. As far as I remember of cod3 they weren't too bad to handle and I actually like vehicles in fps games as it mixes up tactics and adds variability to the same playlists. I think the voiceacting choices are cool too...

im not excited by the new release , tho it sounds ok , It sounds more like an add on pack than a full new game tbh - if this was only a PC game i would be expecting to spend a tenner on it as a bolt-on (i just hope they dont lock the weapons depending on which side ur on)
