ok, not as popular as music or dvd's but what was the last thing that anyone's read, or anything decent for that matter. for me the last was knife of dreams, book eleven of the wheel of time series by robert jordan. got the slash autobiography to read now, should be good. |

The last book that I read was the 'Eisenhorn' trilogy. It's a series of fantasy novels by Dan Abnett set in the Warhammer 40k world about an Inquisitor and his rise to power and then fall to the corruption that he was fighting against over the course of his life. A damn good read if you like dark, gritty sci-fi! Not bad for a Games Workshop novel! |

"Angels & Demons" by Dan Brown The story preceding the pile of crap that is the Da Vinci code and is a way better Book in both story and actual factual content.....Ok its about 5% fact but at least its better than DVC's 0.000005%. |

the short history of nearly everything - Bill Bryson , a great little book , not a book of facts as such but almost like a virtual walkthru of many of the worlds questions ,why we ask those questions and how we came to the answers - Forgotten Voices - of the great war , is a book of diaries from thoses people from all sides in the great war , collected from the archives held at the imperial war museam, a brilliant insight into WW1 |

I just read a book called "The Road". Its brand new, by Cormac McCarthy. I'm quoting Wiki here because they can describe it better than me: "It is a post-apocalyptic tale describing a journey taken by a father and his young son over a period of several months across a landscape blasted years before by an unnamed cataclysm which destroyed civilization and most life on earth." It's actually amazing, its really good, quite scary at bits, and would make a good film. its only 300 pages or so, and its well worth a gander. |

I'm reading a book called "The Company". its really good, its about a guy who joins a company after graduation, and its the weirdest company ever. i can't really describe it well, but its really good. The author also wrote "Jennifer Government" were everyone in the book only has a first name, then has their second name as the company they work for. So i'd be "Ryan Apple" lol. |

Read The fall of troy by (the late) David and Stella Gemmell big fan to tell you the truth. About the trojan wars and follows Aeneas (helikaon) and also a little of andromache which gives a decent license to change the story details. Into all of that and defs also a fan of massimo valeri manfredi, Spartan is a brilliant read if you get the chance by him. Title says it all basically |

"The Pluto Files - the rise and fall of americas favorite planet " - - its a good read if you like stuff like that , it takes a look at the social standing of Pluto ,the arguments of how it should be classed , and details the arguments between "scolars" , "schoolkids" and "wotnot" |

Not too sure it was Orwell. Wasn't it Anthony Burgess. Pretty sure Orwell was dead by then. Derren Brown - Tricks of the Mind Great book, not just for his fans but anyone interested in psychology, or at least the quirky side of the mind. Goes into some detail about how he does his tricks, plus gives you some exmaples to try on your mates. Thoroughly universal read. A proper page turner. GET IT NOW! |

For novels i recommend Death and the Penguin by Andrey Kurkov or Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami. For real life / biog you can't beat Sniper One by Dan Mills or It's Not about the Bike by Lance Armstrong. |

i started reading a book called "the world without us " its ok , its what happens to the earth erm ....... without us ! it takes a detailed look at how buildings degrade , estimates how the animals and plants repopulate our cities and so on ...... It starts off a real good read and feels neatly factual ....... but i think i put it down when something else happened -- probably my new guitar arrived , so i cant cpomplete the review LOL

think i've read the farseer tril, or something like that holle and i've got tricks of the mind sitting on a shelf ready to be read very soon ging, started reading it before but had to stop to be able to take in a book of neuroscience and philosophy.... you tried the brother to that book coco, called the theasaurus, good read but if some people try they will die imediatly... <looks squarely at fork handles ;)> finished absorbing a few books in the last couple of days... sun tzu's art of war.. shouldn't need any desciption.. the unfettered mind by takuan soho.. puts zen and a balance of spirituality with swordplay.. of clearing the mind and just being in the moment, not allowing it to be held in place by any thought or action and of getting the most out of it bushido, the way of the samurai by tsunetomo yamamoto.. a look into the mindset of the samurai and there unbending loyalty and discapline to the lord and land.. opens with the lines "i have found the way of bushido is to die!!".. fantastic read today i have read and finished "a book of 5 rings" by miyamoto musashi.. the greatest samurai sword master that ever lived, killed his first man when he was 13 and from then on was never beaten in his life as he travelled the country seeking out challenges and defeating everyone.. he eventually sought some principle to his practice and so wrote the book of 5 rings.. which is compromised of 5 books within it.. 5 rings being the 5 elements and so its made of the ground book, water book, fire book, wind book, and the void book..... for martial artist and stategist i highly recommend it, brilliant read.... all of the above books are well worth reading, wether your into the martial arts, or zen and spirituality or not they can be used in everyday life to give you the most out of every situation and cultivate your mind, body and spirit.. Lee Child - Jack Reacher novels. The Books All of them are fantastic, Jack is an ex-soldier who somehow seems to find trouble and a shag (I think one book he never). Although the books are all individual there is an underlying theme they don't need to be read in any order but reading the first book first is probably best. Edited by Soaking, Sep 2 2009, 12:07 PM.
