When Preview Program members start receiving the Xbox 360 system update next week, one of the changes is that unauthorized Memory Units will no longer work with the Xbox 360. If you’ve moved your profile or saved games onto one to “back it up,” you’d better move it back onto an authorized Xbox 360 storage device prior to taking the update. If you continue to use an unauthorized Memory Unit after the update, you will not be able to access your stored profile or saved games.

If you need help identifying officially licensed Xbox 360 storage devices or accessories you can read more about the licensed accessories program on Xbox.com

lol, well yeah but it's still shitty from a consumers point of view isnt it.

at least sony have the right attitude and allow 3rd party stuff to be compatable with the PS3, although i havnt done it myself, you can swap out the HDD and put a massive one back in without invalidating your guarentee for example.

MS just suck balls when it comes to pleasing their customers.

i don't think it's relating to 3rd party hard drives, if there is such a thing, it's more for people who've swapped the internals for bigger better drives.

Third party peripheral firm Datel, who make a range of Max Memory storage units for Xbox 360, says it's "disappointed" with MS's decision to stop unofficial memory units working with the 360's upcoming dashboard update.

"We are following this issue and awaiting the outcome like everyone else," a Datel rep told CVG.

"If the Major Nelson blog is to be taken at face value then we're disappointed to see that Microsoft are taking these steps to prevent customers from exercising their freedom of choice.

"Everyone is looking for ways to make their cash go further at the moment and we believe that Max Memory offers a good value, high capacity, alternative to the official Memory Unit."
