The next Xbox 360 dashboard update will arrive next month.

The October issue of Sky Magazine states that the Sky Player will be available to download on the console.

The service will be accessible for all Xbox Live Gold members, but only Sky subscribers with the relevant movie and sports packages will be able to access premium content.

As well as live television, it will share features with the PC version of the player, allowing the availability of movies and on-demand content.

Microsoft has said that the next dashboard update will include social networking functionality, including Facebook and Twitter.

right , whats the point of the sky package if you can only view what you currently subscribe to via satellite .....

If i had sports , id just watch it on the telly ,switch my xbox on and join a party to chat about wot we was watching ..... its what i'd done for years ...

Movies ???? wha .... i cant think of a use for this feature , would you want everyone in a party yapping over a movie ?
and on the flipside , who would watch a film away from the main telly in a room on their own !!!

i just dont get the point of sky player if you already have it in the house .

as for last FM ... its good , its been around ages and altho we have a group set up for SPSrs theres not been many join lol ...

facebook ...... oh !

Here is a hands-on of Facebook,Twitter,Last.fm and Zune.

http://br.st/0rl

A beta update will be released near the end of October where a select few will be invited. Then will be rolled out to everyone else in November.
So when MS said that update was to be released October they didn't mention that it would be a beta first.

I don't know about sky, so don't ask

The beta sign-up will most likely be over at MS Connect
https://connect.microsoft.com/default.aspx

There is no sign up at the moment, I wonder if I can make this my third beta?

that's the thing i'm not sure of, will we be able to use last.fm when in game? i think it'll only be thru the last.fm tab on the dish dash. i hope i'm wrong tho.

mally we have an sps group set up if you want to add your say to the sps radio station and charts. my user name is subcoco you can find it thru my profile if you send me a friend request.

edit: actually you can find it here which isn't rocket science to find

Microsoft Xbox have today announced that the new system update that features new applications such as Twitter and Facebook will be arriving in the UK on November 17.
Think that also includes Last.fm but not sure about Sky

Sky Player will arrive on October 27th on the Xbox Live service.

That is the date you'll be able to watch some live Sky channels and access a variety of Sky content at the touch of a pad. Of course you'll need a Sky subscription, further details of which will be revealed soon.

Graeme Boyd, the European Community Manager for Xbox revealed the news on Twitter:

October 27 – that’s the date when you’ll be able to watch TV from Sky on your Xbox 360. Channel line-up and pricing to come at launch

We fully expected the Sky Player to coincide with the Autumn update with Twitter, Facebook and last.fm, which was pencilled in for a November 17th release, as we revealed on Sunday.

Of course this was promptly pulled from the website, and now the date remains as 'Autumn 2009'. Still at least we are one-step closer to a future of entertainment and connectivity with the Xbox 360.

As well as revealing that Sky will release on Xbox 360 Dashboards on October 27th, we have just recieved new information regarding a new bundle.

Posted Image

The new bundle will include a wireless media remote, a 1 month subscription to Sky Player, and a 3 month Xbox LIVE Gold subscription. This bundle will also be available from October 27. Please note there is no Xbox 360 console in this bundle.

Well I don't need the remote cause I got one with my first 360 and it looks like you'll have to pay a subscription to watch Sky player (unless your already a Sky subscriber).

The preview program also include Last.fm and Sky player or so it says in this link:
http://www.consolemonster.com/newspost.php?id=0000006148

MS don't say anything about this but that might be because it's an US web site and the Americans aren't getting Sky player, not sure about Last.fm

Cheers for the link Gee. My status on Microsoft connect is now saying "participating" (was saying something else last night, something like "applied") so just gotta wait for the update to be put up, good stuff.

Serial Number can be found on the Repair Console page:
http://support.xbox.com/support/en/us/nxe/registerdevice.aspx?step=repair
Console ID can be found on the License Transfer page:
https://live.xbox.com/signup/UIPStartPage.aspx?appid=ConsoleLicenseTransfer

At the license transfer page you may have more than one console id and so it would be a good idea to transfer all your licenses to you current console, but you need to be near your console to do this

The preview will start next week

From the twitter of AceyBongos:

For those asking, you've got a strong chance of getting into the LIVE Preview Program, but I don't have any dates yet. Ta for your patience!

Which begs the question, if everyone has a good chance of getting in on the preview then why not just release it and not have us fill out a long fucking form?

thats quite a good point gee lol

but, i guess its the difference between a few hundred thousand who are aware of the actual beta, and the millions of live users?
but i agree that stupid form was bollocks, what the fuck do they need to know the model number of my TV? crazy lol

The form was longer than last time but it still had that question of "How many hours a week do you spend on Xbox Live?". Who the fuck counts how long they spend gaming during the week, I don't keep a log book for fuck sake.
Also if MS are trying to get an average of the amount of hours then it's going to bollocks because everyone will click the longest hours thinking it will increase their chances of getting on the beta.
All the form need was:
Gamertag
Console serial No.
Console ID
Windows Live ID

all the rest was pointless bollocks

It seems like one of the chaps over at Neowin.net has uncovered a few juicy bits of information coming from http://xbox.sky.com in all the XML data that feeds the Sky Player. To me, that literally means nothing - after all, I'm no techie when it comes to this sort of stuff, but speaking to our coding expert Aleks (AKA Routine), it looks pretty legit.

So what does it tell us? Well, aside from the channel listing and clear as mud price listing, the Xbox 360 Sky Player doesn't seem to be as free to Sky subscribers as they initially made out...

Channel Listing
G.O.L.D
Sky Real Lives
Sky Arts 1
Sky Movies 1 & 2
Sky Sports 1, 2, 3 and Xtra
Sky Sports News
British Eurosport
ESPN
ESPN Classic
Sky News
National Geographic
National Geographic Wild
History
Eden
Cartoon Network
Boomerang
Disney Channel

According to the site also, "Sky 1 is missing from the Live channel list but under "TV on demand" Sky 1, Baby TV and Biography are listed."

Price Plan
Non Sky customers can subscribe on a minimum monthly basis which allows access to selected live channels and a selection of TV on demand. You can also rent or buy single episodes with no commitment.

The Sky Player TV Entertainment pack will cost $15 a month - includes live broadcast of over 20 channels (including National Geographic, ESPN Classic, G.O.L.D. and Disney Channel).

You can upgrade to include movies and sport for an additional cost (not specified though).

The Shocking Truth
Sky Player on your Xbox is only free to Sky subscribers who have subscribed to a Sky Multiroom account and/or a Sky Broadband Unlimited account.

All other Sky TV subscribers can subscribe to watch live TV on their Xbox 360 Sky Player for an extra $9.75 a month... something that Microsoft and Sky failed to highlight in the build up to its release. Probably because it's frankly ridiculous.

Despite it looking legit, we'll chalk it down as a rumour for now. We'll update you when we hear more though, but it does look like the Sky and Microsoft partnership isn't going to be as popular as once thought.

i'm sure i mentioned before that a multi room licence was needed for the sky player on xbox so i'm niether surprised nor dissapointed by this news. what i am surprised at is espn being included as a seperate subscription is needed to watch that.
