The announcement came during a speech at the MipTV-Milia conference in Cannes when Erik Huggers, BBC’s group controller for Future Media and Technology said: "The BBC's catch-up TV service can now be accessed on an increasing number of different platforms - from the web and portable devices to gaming consoles.” The iPlayer is currently being tested on the Wii and BBC experts are to release more test versions later this year. The iPlayer is only available to those in the UK who pay license-fees and it can be accessed through the Wii Internet Channel (available to buy for 500 Wii Points). Messages confirming the availability of the iPlayer will be sent out by the BBC very soon.

But Microsoft and Sony wanted total control and the look of iPlayer, which the BBC were not happy about and so pulled out.
