a couple of details on the new guitar hero...

"Guitar Hero continues to re-define the music and gaming experience this Fall with the release of Guitar Hero 5. Featuring the best variety and biggest rock stars of today combined with classic rock anthems, Guitar Hero 5 is the latest installment of the world's most popular music game. For the first time ever, players can customize the make-up of their band by rocking with any combination of instruments in-game: whether it be two guitars and two drums, or three guitars and a microphone, any combination is possible, allowing players to experience music their own way. Brand new, innovative, easy-to-use gameplay modes like Party Play and RockFest put fun, competition and control at center stage as fans tailor the Guitar Hero experience to match their personal style and interests. For extended hours of entertainment, downloadable content from Guitar Hero World Tour will be compatible with the game and will automatically be updated to include all of the upgrades and enhancements of Guitar Hero 5.

Guitar Hero 5 features the strongest, most varied set list to-date comprised of master tracks from 85 of the hottest bands of today and the biggest classic acts including; Kings of Leon, The Rolling Stones, The White Stripes, Santana, Vampire Weekend, Tom Petty, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, plus more than 30 artists from a variety of music genres that will be making their music-rhythm video game debut.

Among the first-time-ever features of Guitar Hero 5 are: Party Play, where players can jump in or drop out of gameplay seamlessly; RockFest, a comprehensive competitive experience available featuring five new head-to-head modes playable online or in your living room; and the ability to play the entire set-list from the first time the game is turned on.

Guitar Hero 5 refines the player experience, enhances the art style and redesigns core features such as GHMusic Studio, making it the most accessible, fun-to-play and authentic experience for seasoned music gamers as well as first-time players. New innovations such as Band Moments, where bands are rewarded for hitting special note streams together and song challenges where gamers are tasked to play through a song a specific way, add a new competitive layer of excitement and accomplishment to the music rhythm genre.

Activision's just sent out the first details on Guitar Hero 5 - with screenshots.

The new instalment has an interesting drop-in, drop-out party mode with support for any combination of guitars, drums or microphones, which sounds cool.

New songs include:
The Rolling Stones - Sympathy for the Devil
Bob Dylan - All Along The Watchtower
The White Stripes - Blue Orchid
Santana - No One To Depend On (LIVE)
Vampire Weekend - A-Punk
Tom Petty - Runnin Down a Dream
Johnny Cash - Ring of Fire
Kings of Leon - Sex on Fire

Guitar games are being completely overdone now and arent bringing anything new, except a few new tracks (Release as DLC instead asshats), How many games are there now? We have GH:metalicca, GH: Beatles, next is GH:Guns n Roses, GH: Pop ballads. Theres even a christian guitar hero IIRC

i like these guitar games and i'll probably keep getting them as long as they keep releasing them. rock band 2 is still my personal fave and they've done a shit hot job of keeping the dlc going.

Agreed. GH5 tracklist looks very tempting to me though, even though the vids I've seen of it still aren't as good looking as RB2. GH seem to be going the "more is more" route of screen layout, whereas I very much like the minimalist approach of RB.

Just a god damn shame that they have exclusive deals now, I'd love to play some GH tracks and I bet some GH fans feel the same way about RB.

i prefer the gh layout than the rock band, but either doesn't bother me.. pity there is no tough song on that list... i'll probs get it but i'm nae bothered at the look of that list, no satriani, dragonforce, slayer, metallica... hardly anything, i might just have to stab myself in the foot before i do a song to make it a bit harder

that is the problem with these games tho Meaty .. for you they dont pose much of a challenge , and for me i got bored with GH and RB because to progress you need to play on hard , and like with RB there becomes a wall on some of the harder songs making them pointless ...

one thing they should cut out is the "FAIL" -- i think the game should let you continue to play thru the song and score you accordingly

I've just had to re-read an advert that was at the bottom of this page (don't look, they're random remember!)...

It read, in very big letters, :-

FANNY BUSKING?

then after re-reading it :-

FANCY BUSKING?

1)Is my reading really that bad???? :100

2)What the hell are we doing with BUSKING adverts on the website?? :120

Don't really know the details because i really don't give a fudge about it, but thought someone might.

That's very tempting. Guitar pack only, not bad for £70.

I would've done but got my bike test in two weeks, it's already cost me £500 this month!

hmmm i bought this today , i played on medium , and its defo harder than Beatles ... tho in a weird way the notes seemed less likely to trick my ears if u get me (it may have just been the song lol) - strangely it didnt seem harder on the higher difficulty once i fugured what the blue bar was LOL

anyway i tried the GH tracks thing , picked a random example "stung by a B "or summat and frig a cat it was difficult to keep up with,
not a problem tho coz i dont think ill play that song again coz it was like high pitch squealie sounds on a geetar.

off for some more practice ... laturrrrz

i think i'm on it but i can't remember....

i like the new challenges they've added to the songs to get the 8 stars. think i'll defo have to spend more time on the drum kit now. i haven't noticed but is there a leader board section like in the beatles? i've been trying to set some high scores now that meaty won't be around to trounce 'em.

edit: i've set up a new account over at gh.com. added you daz. anybody else coming in it's my gamer tag.

i went to link my xbox with my games just now but it seems there is a problem, i was sure i'd signed up on there before with gh3 and it looks like i had. there is a known issue with old accounts and linking of games and old inactive accounts from the old site. when i 1st went to the guitar hero hub it said my details didn't exist so i registered, now there is a ghost in the system with my previous account, fucktards!
i've emailed customer support but they're dealing with it on a case by case basis so i have to wait in line. could be a while as there are people on there been waiting weeks with the same problem for gh:metallica, world tour and greatest hits.

for some reason my bloody xbox won't connect to live. hmm! anyhoo tired my drums out and i'm having a right hard time on it. i can play a few songs on expert on rockband but i can't seem to string fuck all together on gh5. dropped down to medium and still having issues. i'm going to try callibrating the drums but i don't think that's the problem. i just don't think my rockband drums work that well with the game.

righty, dlc wise if i have it it's free....
guitar duel pack

"Guitar Hero® On Tour: Modern Hits Theme" by S.U.P.R.A.H.U.M.A.N. - ProtoShredanoid

"The Touch" by Stan Bush

Ferret/Metal Blade Track Pack

Bruce Springsteen Track Pack (featuring "Born to Run" and "My Lucky Day")

Reggae Rock Track Pack (featuring "Your Face" by Pepper, "Jimi" by Slightly Stoopid, and "Sacrifice" by The Expendables)

Neversoft Track Pack

now i'm not sure if these were all timed exclusives or are still free but it's worth a look. i never bought any gh dlc as i play rockband mostly so that's were my hard earneds go.

Well picked this up 2day. Not ashamed to admit I've 'boosted' several of the chieves already. Seem to be struggling alittle bit with the challenges but sure I'll get the hang of them in a bit.

But overall well worth it espec when u Import all ur songs from World Tour, even the d/l'd stuff.......
