the initial hype for this was that there would be real prizes. maybe not every time you log in to play but there will be nights where they do have stuff to win.

so a sub based game session? pay per play to subsidise the prizes?

this is the only game my missus has ever had a positve response to. if this works it could open up xbox to a lot more people. if they can get the sky thing to work they just might crack the market big style.

Here's a few tips I've picked up over the past few weeks:

* Always set a reminder for the first game of the night. This should download any updates ahead of time. Be sure to enter the lobby five minutes prior to the game beginning (7.25 pm GMT).

* If you want to be in the Mob or The One, be sure to participate in Extended Play sessions when they're available on the schedule (usually listed as "beta general trivia" on the web version).

* ALWAYS read the answers thoroughly. The writers love to throw in trick answers that are spelled similarly.

* The most important criteria for being in the Mob or The One is speed. Ringing in within .75 seconds of an answer being revealed nets you a 200 point instant answer bonus. If you can eliminate X and A, hit B as fast as possible to get the highest speed bonus plus the instant answer bonus.

* However, the best way to get points is to get the questions that seem obvious but are tricky. For example, we had a question on Perrault's Cinderella about the creation of the six footmen. The answer is lizards, but 90% always guess mice (huge knockout bonus).

* Know your footie! Half of our sports questions are on MLS / UEFA / EPL / FIFA.

* I don't know what your equivalent of Rent will be (maybe EastEnders), but expect many questions on it--and often.

* Never use a skip in Extended Play unless you press the wrong button. It counts as an incorrect answer in your accuracy, and you can often narrow it down to 50/50.

* If you aren't very good at trivia, there's an excellent chance you can get into the Mob by just hitting the X button as fast as possible during Extended Play. (i.e. Round 1 selection criteria in a live show is based on participation then speed.)

* Because of this, you should be VERY careful using "The Brain" help. In the North American version, the Brain has an accuracy of about 15%.

* If you want one of your questions featured on the show, you're better off posting it earlier than later. Use this link for submissions. Be sneaky; but if you make them too hard, they probably won't be featured.

* You can make your avatar do actions in game and in the lobby by "amping" with the Y button. This thread explains it in more detail.

* Be certain your Xbox contact information is up to date. Prizes are checked through a verification company and take a few weeks to be shipped.

* The game is most likely going to be pay to play at some point ("season pass"), so if you want to enjoy it for free, take full advantage of the beta!

* Lastly, be sure to listen to the announcer during the breaks and at the end of the show! The second and third weeks of the US-CA beta, Live codes were given away during the post-game wrap-up (one for twelve months of Live and one for 1600 Microsoft points).



I wish I could play with some of you...the North American version has been severely dumbed down; the only UK questions we've gotten are on easy stuff like Jack the Ripper, toad in the hole, and Father Ted--feck!

The main gameshow where you will be given the opportunity to win prizes will start at 7.30pm and last for just over 2 hours. The gameshow will be launched from a Primetime channel at specified times only and initially will require a download.
