Wireless Router Being Odd

Hey y'all,

so i'm stuck at my folks home for a few weeks, and their wireless network router works perfectly with my laptop and my brothers wii, but won't work with my xbox. The xbox searches for networks alright, but just doesn't find the router which my laptop and the wii do so easily.

any suggestions?

right i use a Wireless dinglemingle sometimes ... fear my technical thoughts

is your Xbox within about 30 ft [my phone can "see my router from the garage but im not sure how good the xbox dongle is]

If your router has a hidden SSID then the 360 wont find the router , goto router settings - wifi/wireless settings check what the SSID is - default is often name of the router - then add name to the relevent option in xbox settings

finally - the 360 dongle is broken , - is it lit up ? my sons dongle only works from the front USB slot and even then u have to push it in right !!!

appols if these are obvious to ya but these are the only reasons i see a problem

I might be boring, but inside there's interesting person waiting to get out.
Is the router security setup as WPA2 - official MS wireless adapter doesn't support it.

Bumping an old post I know

I'm cinsidering buying a X-box wireless thingy for my 360 as the router/modem thingy is upstairs and the 360 is downstairs and atm I have a very long lead thingy which connects them up so I can play x-box live, the wireless thingy would be a good investment as it's now £39.99 from Game (new) and should it work sucessfully this will prevent when I go for a piss I dont catch the lead and end up with downstairs coming upstairs or upstairs coming downstairs or if I try to play coming in after a few cursing the 360 for not connecting up only realising I've not actually got round to plugging the lead thingy in.

So my question for those in the know that have used or use the wireless thingy, can I ask, does it work perfectly well? Is it just plug in enter wireless access code and play (anything more technical than that and I will not be able to make it work. any feedback much appreciated.

it works great from where me and my son use it , im on the ground floor approx 30ft away , and it has to travel through 2 brick walls , from there i loose one bar from a full signal , but , if i move my xbox about 3ft towards it it lights up the last sig bar -------

As a guide , my heradset goes out of range at the same distance from xbox to router , (walk away from your Xbox to your router and where ur headset cuts out is probably roughly where my router would be .....

My son also uses the wireless connector , he is about the same distance away (in a straight line) and signal passes through celin , and 1 wall (in a straight line lol)

i also have a wired connection for my other xbox in the living room and thee is no difference with lag issues , just make sure you get a decent signal and it should be fine .....

before buying tho , use the headset test as a guide - tho the router may pick up from greater distances , the distance MY headset works at is equal to the distance of my router to xbox (hope that makes sence)
