due out on the 27th march - first i've seen of it

Quote:

Taking gamers as close to war as they'll ever want to get, Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising is the much anticipated return of the genre-defining military conflict simulator. Set to deliver the total combat experience, Operation Flashpoint 2 will challenge players to survive the chaos and rapidly evolving situations of modern warfare in a new contemporary theatre.

Players will experience the intensity, diversity and claustrophobia of a modern conflict from the unique perspectives of an infantry marine, a helicopter pilot, a Special Forces officer or a tank commander, each engaged against the full force of the Chinese PLA on a scale never previously experienced in a military action title. Gameplay simulates an immense conflict between advanced forces and provides unparalleled scope with different military disciplines, vehicles and equipment for players to utilize.

Freedom of Play - Operation Flashpoint 2 will give players the freedom to handle military crisis situations on their initiative. Unscripted missions will task players with real objectives, such as laying down covering fire, covering a friendly unit's retreat or conducting short-range recon patrol. Armed with cutting edge military hardware, players will need to balance brute force with intelligent use of tactics. Once players have completed the campaign, a Mission Editor enables gamers to create their own single player and multiplayer missions.

The most realistic modern military conflict game ' Operation Flashpoint 2 features unparalleled levels of realism and variety of military forces, equipment, weapons and tactics. Fully loaded weapons and individual ammunition types will be simulated with detailed ballistic physics, based upon individually-crafted mechanics. Players will command and control a wide variety of multi-component, multi-weapon vehicles, including tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, APCs, attack and utility helicopters. The character damage system authentically depicts the terrible wounds and injury from modern weapons to communicate the reality of combat.

Platoon-Based Combat - As an epic campaign weaves the narrative, players will fight as infantry soldiers in battle, drive tanks in armored assaults, pilot helicopters in air strikes, and infiltrate the enemy in covert special operations utilizing a wide variety of realistic military weapons from knives and rifles to machine guns, grenade launchers and laser designators for air strikes. In whichever role the player chooses, they will experience the fierce and brutal reality of warfare and the shock and awe of contemporary firepower unleashed on the arresting scale of modern combat.

Redefines the Size of Battle - Immense play areas of more than 135 square miles give players a multitude of tactical decisions on how to best accomplish missions. Densely packed with environment detail and objects, valleys, mountains, coastlines, towns, villages and industrial complexes all combine to deliver a rich and challenging tactical environment. The world is persistent, so that buildings destroyed in one campaign mission will be destroyed in the next.

Stylised Cinematography - Operation Flashpoint 2 will model the environment, objects and people in realistic detail, but its visual styling will embrace documentary techniques. The camera work through cut-scenes will be heavily influenced by television war reports that are often shot under extreme circumstances delivering a unique look with incorrect exposure, severe camera shake and loss of focus.

I might be boring, but inside there's interesting person waiting to get out.
Cool, been looking at this with interest. I reckon a proper military sim is about due for the xbox. Many have come close but non have really cut the mustard. I really hope the multiplayer is accessible, wel desinged and enjoyable and not just the "spawn, run, die, spawn, run, die..." as some games are.

Here's hoping.

A fine looking game. If i wasn't behind a work filter, i'd be able to link the vids, so just go to http://www.ofp2dr.com/and scroll down to the vid. Anyways, If you are old enough (and had a powerful enough PC back then), you'll probably remember the original, released 8 years ago. Basically, this is the game I been waiting for. COD4 is a good arcade game, but you get juggernoobs on that game.

Dragon Rising

There's no such thing as juggernoob on this. It's Hardcore, one-shot kills all the way, amigos!

*cheers :)

coco the vid on that site i linked is pretty good. did you ever play the original ofp? the map editor was fucking brilliant. I used to play it mp and it was ridiculously good fun playing custom missions - just you and another guy in command of a squad against a whole legion if you wanted but it was up to 16 player, lol. except last time it was the russians in T72 tanks and Spetnaz, now its the People's Liberation Army. Not sure what to expect, but apparently there are supposed to be 70 weapons and heaps of vehicles.

16 player on live should be smooth i expect, since not all 16 people will be crammed onto a small map like on cods. I hope the map editor is easy to use on xbox though.

i have been driving everyone mad about this game for months guys .( ask rick and jack ..lol)

i have been trying to keep up to date on this game as i reckon it really is gonna be superb

i played the original game on pc and it was 10 years ahead of itself then ..superb gameplay , with a map as big as anything i have seen

they say that the new map in the story mode is an exact replica of some island near japan ..with actual places and buildings as near to life as possible.

i have read somewhere its taken about 10 years to make it

it will take 20 mins in the fastest plane to get from end to end and about 12 hours on foot i believe ( real time )

the weapons are real aswell as poss ..no magic rpgs on ya back , if you want something like that you have to put the fucker together before ya use it ..its gonna be good guys ..i for one cant wait :117

yeah well as for it being a true sequel it isn't; bohemia interactive, the original devs, gave up the name rights to codemasters and codemasters have been making the game for about 3 years I think. Bohemia are recognised for their Army simulators (the USMC etc use them for training) and their own sequels to flashpoint were arguably apparently good tactical simulations, but were pretty hopeless when it came down to trying to enjoy them as games. Anyway, I think even with the basic concept of flashpoint, codemasters can't go far wrong. At least it will be an improvement over bf2, and proper clan matches will have to be quite organised to deal with the huge environment and the 1-2 shot kills.

'Hi everyone,

Got some good news
for you all.

Just wanted to confirm that as is the case with almost all of our major releases, OFP: DR is planned to have a demo released prior to launch for all platforms.

I don't have any further details at the moment regarding dates and content, but I will keep on updating this thread as and when new info becomes available. '

i got all excited when i 1st seen this, means fuck all really tho as every major release gets a free demo nowadays, but if they gave us a date....

i'm not that genned up on game types, tho i'm assuming there won't be domination or capture the flag there will be objectives, blow up bridges, defend convoys, fight for strategic points and take out anti air craft placements. it's a proper war simulator set on a mirror image of a real japanese island with proper ballistics on the weapons and damage to your bod. if you get shot in the arm that drastically affects the way you can aim in game, shit like that.
i think it will be compared to battlefield in that it has vehicles but everybody is expecting much more than a battlefield clone.

Looks interesting. The big question is can they make it work on the 360. Played a lot of war games on the pc and i've yet to see anything work on the same scale on the xbox yet.

it's being developed with the console market in mind. the p.c purists are up in arms as it won't be as realistic as they want it to be. mass market appeal doesn't usually involve life like ballistics.

Well perhaps loading zones might be an issue (ala fallout) although there you have the hard disk save option to counter that. What i think might be an issue is the map/mission editor. Maybe it will be a cut-down version for the xbox. Even though, it will still be shit hot, as long as any glitches are ironed out in MP.

From what I gather it will be multiplayer where you can command your own AI squad in a big tactical MP battle, be part of a full co-op MP squad (air/vehicle/footsoldier) in battle, plus do custom MP modes, including capture the flag/king of the hill/base and perhaps (ooh!) a C&C/quake wars mode that was available for the original OFP. I wouldn't be surprised if they added a co-op option to the campaign, which would rock, too.

Anyway that's a bit of speculation for you. But tbh even if it was the original OFP with enhanced graphics, it would still rock, imo. OFP was the first game where I felt I cut my teeth in terms of being a sniper, and there's no game to match it still. Think of the epic sniper mission in cod4 but with just a vague mapmarker, binoculars, a compass and a few real-world miles between you and the objective. No scripted enemy AI sequences or fences you couldn't jump over, just enemy territory, lots cover and LOTS of patrols. Once you made the kill you had to make your own way back. I remember the base sirens; HIND choppers wouldn't be too far behind, dropping soldiers and patrolling the perimeters of your cover...

Magick.

ill probably buy this , bit if as you say there are big teams , i just cant see it working ,,,,, Console games should stick to a max of 8v8 , scrap leaderboards and make vehicles only available to use in Forza2/3/4 and them PGR games .

Dod , your last paragraph makes the game sound really good , im asumng you are describing the single player sniper missions ? or Co-op missions .

For me the best sniping was found on the original Ghost Recon 1 , before the game got over complicated with gimmicks.

dodmaster mate , i played the original ofp and still have it installed on my pc now

it really is a superb game , the add on objective games are wicked especially the all in ground war when you come down the hill into the enemy ...you can see them parachuting in the back ground ..

i dont know game modes but i would guess they will be sort of capture things , like towns and depots rather than flags and stuff ( i dont know though )

just going off the original ..i would imagine it will just be a real war simulator ,1 shot 1 kill

i remember in the original game , you start in the middle of a forest in the dark and have to get to a pick up point ...the 1st game that made my heart pump ..

its hard to describe it , but it was about 8 years ago and it was miles ahead of its time then , i would recomend anyone buy it even now , its only about 7 quid on amazon :117

daz, aye I was describing a single player mission, where you could pick any weapon, tbh. The format was the same; you were alone and had to make your own way, do the mission ad-hoc without really any kind of script. The 16 player thing is only a problem on small maps where a lot would be happening. Still I suppose if you had 8v8 tanks on screen at once then it could judder about though, you may not get to play tank commander - and have to play 3 ppl in one tank. Thing is Daz, OFP wasn't just an FPS with vehicles. It was a full-on war simulator, meaning it was a tank simulator, an attack chopper sim, a sniper sim, a medic sim, a gunboat sim etc etc.

I wouldn't go back to it though. I think the graphics would be quite crap and offputting to look at these days.

no doubt mate the graphics are pants to what we get today , but 8 years ago they amongst the best i have seen

it is still worth a blast as the game itself is superb and the missions were massive

i actually finished the whole lot and the expansion pack aswell ..great game

if the new one is half as good it will be awsome :117

No mission editor for consoles, apparently, although Bohemia Interactive's Arma2 (the original flashpoint developers' flashpoint-esque game) have included one for consoles . . . be interesting to see the difference when they come out head to head in september. Apparently ofp1:elite on the xbox had a mission editor??

http://ofp2dr.com/forums/news-22/no-mission-editor-for-consoles/

I think it's a bit cack that there's no editor in-game, so cm will really have to pull their fingers oot on the multiplayer front if am guna keep playing it after arma2 comes out in september.

it will be out in october i reckon , a good 6 weeks before the biggie COD 6 or wossists face.

thats just a guess , but good games dont get released in the summer , and a nutter would release it right ontop of an obvious killer app ! as some mite say
