We're surprised it didn't happen sooner, but it has been made illegal for anyone to sell the famed R4 DS flash cart in Japan.

The injunction on sales of the cart was passed by the Tokyo District Court, in support of game publishers like Nintendo and Capcom, who have campaigned against the piracy-ridden carts in the past.

There are, however, plenty of alternative carts out there and, according to Kotaku, 54 companies have said they will continue to pursue makers of similar devices.

It'll be one huge clean up mission if they're to squash them all.

Nintendo moved to thwart the operation of R4 when it was found that the carts didn't work with the new DSi console (out here on April 3).
