oh well my xbox elite has gone tits up , getting message E74 again..

this is the 2nd time in just over 12 months..

i invested in the elite console because it was supposed to sort this problem out ..

but because i have had it 13 months i either have to pay or chuck it and invest in another...i know i am mad but decided to pay for repair , if it was just arcade model i wouldnt bother to honest , but this thing has cost me 200 odd quid

luckily my mrs has borrowed me hers till mine comes back , but i still aint happy to pay so much money for something so dodgy, i would be gutted if i didnt have spare console

i would say to anyone , dont pay expensive for new xbox , if you have your 60 or 120gb hard drive , just keep buying arcade models , they just aint relable enough :120

TBH these manufacturers should give lifetime repair warranty --- by that i mean until the company release a new model , its usually every 5yrs anyway

to be honest daz what can you do ..its 80 quid for repair ..but these consoles are 230 quid in shops still ..its a lot of money to throw away ...i might aswell pay 80 quid then pay 230 quid again ..and it will still cost me more for an arcade

shit i know but they have you by the bollocks...

if they give you a new console because they cant repair it ( like i had before) the should give you a new 12 warranty

Elites were never better models and it all came down to the date a console is manufactured and what goes into an elite today is the same as what goes into any other 360.
The only good thing an elite has is it's 120GB HDD and it's black and that's all.

fuckin hell mick my console got the e74 code last night as coco says

so i have 1 console out of warranty with 3 red lights, 0020 code, unknown but possibly overheating, and 1 now with one red light and the e74 message, 1022 code, unknown what that currently means.

so what's happening with your's meaty? is it a warranty repair?

I might be boring, but inside there's interesting person waiting to get out.
It's a fecking disgrace. I've never had a console fail on me, never, till my 360 rrod'd.

You've all probably heard of the elusive "Jasper" consoles, might be worth having a look around for how to spot one if you're about to replace your 360

The easiest way is to look at your power brick.
Look on the label and if the output says 203 watts then you have the first graphics chip, if it says 175 watts then you have the 'Falcon' chip and if it says 150watts (If you bought yours after September) then you have a brand new console with the 'Jasper' chip.

I have the 'Falcon' chip which is more reliable than the previous one

1022 AV cable error... There is a problem with the AV cable, try using a different AV cable. (could also be a problem with the encoder chip)

Just got this if it helps meaty

:116 Hi Geezer,
My Xbox 360 keeps freezing, i've sent it back via Microsoft & the charge was 50.99, that includes a years warranty & p&p both ways. I know it's a bummer bt it's still cheaper than a new console. If you have the rings of death is the repair not free?

i never knew there was a difference :o -- i thought it was down to the soldering quality LOL

what i did was buy a new arcade console and sent my old one back for repair so ive always got a spare , think the way things are going with the 360 im gonna need it ....

cant remember the failure rate of the 360 , but 2 years ago it was 200% higher than what the industry call good/acceptable , i think it was 2% failure rate and the 360 was at 6%

it is free mark if you have had your console less than 12 months , otherwise you have to fork out

i think personaly they should extend the warranty , maybe give us another 12 months or something

my lad marcus's went before xmas aswell , but he only had arcade so we decided it wasnt worth repairing ...it seems you are lucky to get 18 months out any 360 console now ... :120

Don't know if it helps but my mate fixes 360 consoles and charges £40 per machine. You would need to pay p&p to get it to me and back again (I live in Lancashire) but that I'm aware he's never encountered anything he cant fix yet...

ps. He must of done over 40 machines within the last 18 months (arcade, premium and elite's - including my 1st machine)

found this snippet on my travels round the web...

Quote:

The New Xbox Experience (NXE) patch - released earlier this week to fix an HDMI audio issue caused by downloading the NXE interface itself – appears to have brought the dreaded Red Ring of Death (RRoD) to rather a lot of consoles.

Microsoft’s own Xbox 360 Forum has been inundated with complaints from gamers that the patch – which was supposed to restore audio to gamers using the console over an HDMI connection – had frozen their machines instead.

One gamer by the name of Tenious Tza said: “After downloading the update - RROD.” User CrzyPnoy9 described the HDMI patch as “bulls**it” because his brother’s console now suffers from the RRoD.

Gamer DaddyFatSacks70 claimed that the update caused his console to display an E74 error message, but that when he called the Xbox support telephone line he was told he’d be charged £100 ($146/€114) to fix it.

Presumably DaddyFat refused to pay the charge, because he said: “Guess it's time to dust off the old PS3”. Could problems like these be causing some Xbox 360 owners to turn their attentions to Sony’s rival console? We contacted Microsoft in the hope of some official comment or acknowledgement of the latest patch’s alleged problems.

Sadly, it seems the firm didn’t want to respond to its customers. All it would tell Register Hardware was that it has a “detailed and comprehensive test and acceptance plan” for software updates.

We pushed for more specific answers, but were told: “The nature of the console itself is very complex, as it’s a consumer electronic product that contains more than 1700 different components and 500 million transistors.”

Thanks. Microsoft, very helpful...

Just read this posted on msoft site 14 april

This article describes the extension of the warranty to three years for general hardware failures indicated by the E74 error message.
MORE INFORMATION
While the majority of Xbox 360 owners continue to have a great experience with their console, we are aware that a very small percentage of our customers have reported receiving an error that displays “E74” on their screen. After investigating the issue, we have determined that the E74 error message can indicate the general hardware failure that is associated with three flashing red lights error on the console. As a result, we have decided to cover repairs related to the E74 error message under our three-year warranty program for certain general hardware failures that was announced in July 2007. We have already made improvements to the console that will reduce the likelihood of an occurrence of this issue. Detailed information related to the Xbox 360 warranty and resources for those who require repair can be found at www.xbox.com/support (www.xbox.com/support) .

Microsoft will refund to customers the amount paid for an out of warranty repair due to a general hardware failure associated with the e74 error message. Those customers should automatically receive the refund within 4-12 weeks, and no additional action by customers should be necessary. However, if a customer has not received a refund by July 1, 2009, the customer should visit www.xbox.com/support before November 1, 2009 for information on how to place a claim. All refund claims must be received on or before November 1, 2009.’For more information about troubleshooting the E74 error message, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
941377 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941377/ ) Your Xbox 360 console receives the error message E74

so your cash should be returned maybe
