Hey guys...I was wondering if any of you knows what is the best connection wired or wireless for xbox.
Cause I was being told wireless Im losing speed for gaming, that it would be better if I was wired direct to the router......trouble is my router is downstairs and the xbox upstairs n that would mean a hell of a long ethernet cable?? :105

I would hate to think I am not getting the best out of my xbox!! :114

wired is defo the way to go if you want the best connection speeds. i use d-link home plug adaptors. they turn your electric cables into ethernet cabels. about 65 quid for two plugs. work like a charm. me and my son can stream movies and play online and not affect each other whilst my router in another room again. highly recomend them.

tbh i don't think it make a massive difference unless you have got a lot of things running off the one router at the same time, providing you have a good router that is.

although saying that i'm wired to the router, i just had a hole drilled through the floor hahaha

what speed connection is your broadband?

i have 20mb and my misses use her laptop wirelessly and gets 20mb to, which i was surprised at. (i have netgear)

for gaming though, i would always use wired

i second the powerline option nominated by coco. i intend purchasing these soon as you get very little latency from your connection.

This is the reading I got with the speedtester.....I know its not good but I guess Im lucky to get that down here in Cornwall!! So I think I will try a wired connection maybe tomorrow.

two tics i'll pop up a link for the homeplug things i have. i swear by them, they're shit hot.

edit: here's a link for them on amazon d-link homeplugs

had a price drop as well. 60 earth pounds is a steal for these.

also that will be your line speed not what you're xbox is getting using a wireless adapter.

we use a lot of bandwidth here , and i must say when comparing Wired and wireless when only im online (n not every other bugger at home) - there is absoloutely no difference -

The same for when we are all on , what it depends on is what game everyones playing - if my kids are on GTA or Saints , then im fucked and i have to wave a fat slipper at them , otherwise its all coolio .

The only problem i suffer with is NAT settings , somthing out of our control if more that 1 connection is using the tinternet , and tho it dosent slow you down it does hamper connection to other xboxes .

Go wired if its possible , if not wireless is as good (just keep within 30ft or so of your router.

well I am the only one that uses the xbox or computer .... obviously they are not both used at the same time. The router is 20ft away so will it improve the speed?? I really dont know considering I will be the only one using it. Confused lol. :120

the only thing that will disprupt your wireless connection is if there is anything in the way of the signal from router to the xbox, anything that transmits signals that is, wireless home phone and other shit like that

So if I were to buy a D plug and plug it into a socket, does it then make the electric wiring into an ethernet line???? And does it matter where or what socket you plug into???? :192

yeah basically.

Dosen't matter as long as they are on the same circuit. ideally they should go straight into a wall socket as multiplugs can cause interferance and they also don't work with surge protectors.

hang on this option was mentioned to me a while back , i ignored the option when i didnt understand it --- so for the newly inquisitive can i have a reeeeewind Please ..

1. where does the signal go from and too -do i direct wire from xbox to wall socket ----then------ wall socket near router to router ???? (using relevent adaptors ?)
2. if im in the conservatory with the probability its on a different ring to the rest of the house - what then ? nowt for newts ???
3. the mains fuse is all surge protected , along with extention cables connecting delicate shit like - lappy , router , xboxys ,iplod amongst other shit .

i do use the dongle without problems im approx 40 feet away , signal passes through 2 outside double brick walls , past a microwave , past portable phones n mobiles , a laptop the cat and my work boots ---- My signal strength to Xbox lights up all but 1 bar (not signal speed ,but Strength - so thats good)

like i say my only problems are when others use connections to internet , sometimes its as much as 3 xboxes , a laptop and sometimes other pportable devices ---- this causes NAT isues and nothing to do with signal strength or speed ----- just that the traffic gets confused as to where it needs to go .
