Lor closed his eyes and allowed himself to enjoy the attention. Until a couple nights prior, he couldn't recall ever being treated with such affection; his memories of early childhood consisted more of studying and practice with a staff than actually being raised. He did admit mentally that his parents probably cared for him as a child.. They were simply distant. Taking a deep breath, he let his thoughts wander back to their upcoming night at the beach.

"We're all best buddies again," he joked.

Neve held the mouse close and began to gnaw on it with the usual degree of curiosity.

A smile branched on Elita's face. She kissed Lor's forehead gently and smiled even wider. She then moved his head from the sand to the bag she had carried with her since they left the castle. Elita then stood and ran into the water. She danced in it and let the water splash all around her. It was a feeling she enjoyed. The sun was setting and no longer ailed her and she took a deep breath again. The salt made her almost feel as if the was surrounded by water.

Soon the tide began to come in much higher. It was up to Elita's knees and she decided it would be a good idea to roll her pants up a bit. She walked a little father and when she jumped to avoid a small wave, she ended up falling into the water.

"Why do I have to be so clumsy." She said aloud. She then laughed and threw her scarf to dry land. Once that was taken care of she dove into the water on her own. Seeing as how she was already wet, it made no difference in her mind.

Fleuria scrunched her eyes closed as Elita hit the water. Poor thing... she chucked slightly. Fleurias raised her hand to her mouth and called to Elita. "Be carefuol! It won't do us any good if you drown, Elita!" She grinned and moved to sit down next to Lor. "It's nice here," she said as she brought herself to the ground. "I wish all of Acrea was like this- peaceful and light hearted." She turned her gaze to the setting sun in the west. "I know it will be someday. Once my parents are out of the picture, all will be well."

"Yeah, I'm looking forward to it," Lor said with a smile. His mind rested only a few more moments before he realized he was missing a valuable training opportunity. "Hold that thought." He swung himself forward, rising to his feet. He pulled off his robe and the shirt underneath it before making his way out to the water. He grinned at Elita's carefree behavior as he knelt with one hand submerged.

Concentrate.. and..

Ice rose from the sand beneath the water's surface, splashing salt water in every direction. Even standing in a foot of water, the ice reached four feet above the surface; it was about as wide as it was tall, and perhaps a foot or so thick. The waves splashed viciously against it as they rolled in.

"Wow.. I wasn't expecting that," he said to himself. When he touched the wall of ice with his hand, he heard a gurgling, cracking noise.. Bubbles rushed to the water's surface, and then the wall of ice emerged from the sandy floor holding it in place, tipping forward like a falling building. He found himself tumbling forward with the block of ice. Luckily, as it was only ice, it floated. He held onto the icy sheet with both hands. If he moved too far from the center, it tilted dangerously in the same direction. By maintaining his balance, however, he could essentially use it as a miniature raft. "What the hell..?"

Witnessing this, Neve paddled over to the raft and scrambled to climb on board. Her paws continually slipped on the icy surface. Lornayth lifted her up onto his lap out of pity.

Elita looked at the sheet of ice and laughed when she saw Lor on top. She had an idea. It was mean and she hoped it would work.

Elita dove under the water and under the sheet of ice. Once she was at the far end she pushed up on it and came up from the water. She lifted it at and angle, so that Lornayth would fall off into the water. She smiled and then sat in shallow water. Quickly, Elita decided to swim away from Lor, afraid of his reaction.

Lornayth tumbled into the water backward. He just barely had time to catch his breath before the blue abyss overtook him.

"Arghrghrghle!" he yelled in a series of bubbles. He was sinking.

Rapidly.

His feet touched the sea floor, and with a swift kick, he pushed himself back up toward the surface. His hair ebbed and flowed with the tides in a general cloud above his head. As if it wasn't enough that he couldn't see the distant surface, kicking his legs seemed to do nothing to aid him.

No.. It's not so far.. Calm down..

He reached his arms out, and when he failed to reach the surface, he felt himself sink back to the bottom.

Okay.. Yes, it's far..

Bubbles spurted from his nostrils even as he attempted to hold in his breath. His eyes stung from the salt. Already, his chest had begun to sting - it didn't help that he hadn't expected the plunge.

There's another option..

Lor raised his arms upward and spread ice out from his hands. The resulting block suddenly jerked him upward as it rocketed to the surface above. He splashed out of the water for a moment, and then.. As the ice leveled out, he swung back under. His lungs pounded in his chest.

Agh!!

The ice broke away from his palms at his command, enabling him to throw his head forcefully above the surface. He splashed his way toward the shore until the tips of his toes reached the floor beneath him. He then took several deep breaths with closed eyes. When he reopened them, his drenched cat familiar paddled in a circle around him. His eyes narrowed significantly. Why could she swim?

Elita shrieked and swam to Lornayth. She climbed onto the shore next to him and whined.

"I-I'm so so so so-so -s-s-sorry." She held a hand to her mouth and hugged him. She was behind him and pressed her cheek against his back. "I d-d-didn't know you couldn-n-n't swim.." She sat up in the water and looked at Lornayth with sad eyes. She then looked to Fleuria almost asking for help.

"Lornayth, do you need anything? Ca-can I do something f-for you..?" She looked back to him in distress.

Lornayth dipped his head down, letting his long hair drip water on the sand. He sighed.

"It's fine," he said calmly. Though the experience had bordered on traumatic, he survived.. No thanks to Neve. The kitten pranced up to him and closed her mouth on a strand of his hair. "Neve, you showoff."

That's just one more thing I would've preferred to keep from Fleuria that somehow found its way into the light..

"Like I said, we only rarely came to the beach when Rand and I went away from Edeuro together.. It's not like there was a pool available to me, either."

Fleuria walked down to Elita and Lornayth, closer to the shore. She stood beside the two, crouching down closer to them. She patted Lornayth on the back. "Not quite a fish out of water, are you Zambar?" she asked, a slight hint of laughter in her tone. She stood once more, and ran a hand through her hair. "Don't worry much about it. I'd never had the opportunity to learn to swim either." She looked down at him and grinned then turning her gaze to Elita. "At least you've proven yourself quite stealthy, Elita." Fleuria placed her hand on Elita's shoulder to comort her.

Lor turned his head, brushing his bangs out of his eyes with one hand. He shot Elita a serious stare.

"Teach me how to swim," he said bluntly. After a pause, he shook his head. "I thought it would probably be okay even if I didn't know how to, but.. What if something happens on the way to Yesmuth? I'm not going to die because I spent the night daydreaming on the beach instead of learning something so necessary."
