Lornayth averted his eyes from the guards patrolling the streets of the famous magic district. Outside every other library stood a pile of texts on every subject from alchemy to necromancy. Armored soldiers carried them away in stacks of ten or more. Where they would go was a mystery to Lor, but regardless, the sight displeased him.

"This ban on magic activities is ridiculous," he muttered to Elita beside him. "What was the king thinking? We're not criminals, but you would certainly think so with all this chaos.." He set his sights on Presence's guild hall directly ahead. They would arrive shortly. If the guild hall was as full of guards as the streets outside, however..

Maybe this is a bad idea..

Elita gave a slight nod. She was not proud of the ban on magic, seeing as the kingdom was using it for disturbing purposes. Lor sent shivers down Elita's spine once more. He was such a quiet person, and seemed very disturbed. It was almost like he hated his home town. Like he hated the guild. She looked down the street and into many of the pubs. Guards were everywhere. They were checking under everyone's left eye. She looked at Lor. She saw from the side that he had his guild mark under his eye. She looked left and then right.

"Is your mark going to be a problem?"

"Possibly," Lor admitted. He grabbed Elita by the arm and led her down an alley. After a quick trek through the darkness, they emerged on another street with fewer guards and even fewer townspeople.

I don't want to turn back having come this far, but if I'm stopped, there's not much I can do to hide my guild membership.

"Just.. Pretend you live here. Maybe they'll ignore us."

"How am I supposed to act? I-I don't even know what is ten feet in front of me. I can't just lie. I me-mean. I am a r-royal guard. I was only there for a short while, m-maybe a month. I ca-can't possibly act like I live here."

Elita began to panic and gabbed the the thin braid hanging next to her cheek. She closed her eyes and gave a sighed. The breath leaving her throat was shaking just like her legs. She was too nervous to even look at Lor anymore.

"W-what should I do..?"

A month? Great, none of these guards are going to know her..

"Then don't speak," Lornayth sighed. "I have an idea." He led her into another alley just short of detection. In the darkness, he placed his hands on the wall of the building to their north and created frozen blocks for them to climb on. He placed Elita's hand on one. "We're going to climb onto the roof. I'll go first so you have plenty of these to hold onto, but if you're too slow, they'll melt." Without waiting for further input, he started up the wall, creating more ice blocks every time he reached a hand skyward. Before long, he stood on the roof. Presence's guild hall was closer than ever, but with so many guards about, the odds were still against them. He ducked low to the roof tiles and cautiously stepped toward the other side of the building.

Elita knew she could climb. She had the skill and she had been trained to do most physical tasks. She was just worried her clumsiness would ruin Lor's plan while on the rooftops. She began climbing as best and as fast as she could. She reached the roof and began to mimic Lor's movements. She stayed low and walked close behind him. She was begging to get nervous. What if a guard did recognize her. Dinner was always separate for the guards. They ate in the smaller dinning hall built for the guards, and was open always. The hall always had different people, so you just ate with whom ever was there.

"Where are we going again?" Elita felt her self almost slip, but she held her ground.

Lor pointed at the guild hall straight ahead of them.

"The big, three-story building over there.. All of my things should be inside unless they've confiscated them." He knelt at the edge of the roof for nearly a full minute, mustering his courage, before he dared to leap to the next building. He slid as his feet met with the ceramic tiles; in an instant, he was on his side. At the very least, he hadn't fallen into the alley below.. Lor glanced left and right to see if any of the guards had noticed the disturbance.

All's clear so far..

Elita stood straight. She sighed deeply and leaped just a bit farther than Lor had. She bent down as she hit the roof and followed after Lor. She looked at the building and stared at Lor.

"Is that your home? Or..Is it the guild?"

Lornayth grinned slightly. To think that anyone would call the guild's base his house.. It was ridiculous.

"Presence headquarters, naturally." He paused as a patrol of guards passed below them. It wouldn't do to let them overhear. As soon as they stepped out of earshot, he climbed down the north side of the building the same way he climbed up. Without a word, he scurried across the street and worked his way around to the back of the guild hall. Lights were on in the front of the building, but not in the back.

They must be standing guard inside.. I'll just go straight to my window, I guess.

The moon illuminated his figure as he slipped between the shadows. It put a soft shimmer in his icy hands. The moment he reached the back of the building, he began scaling the wall.

"Just a warning.. Don't fall behind." The ice crystals appeared one by one, trailing up toward a window on the third story. He pressed firmly on the window, beckoning it to open. "Good thing I leave my window unlocked." Lor slipped inside and waited for Elita to do the same.

Elita stayed close behind. She climbed into the window and looked around. It was too dark to see anything except a bed and a dew other general items in the room. She stood up and walked close to Lor.

"Where are we? Is this your room?"
