I'm not really going to be fancy or anything here, just going to get this over with. Like a band-aid, 'cept not as gross. >>;;; Every night the dreams are there. A lot like normal dreams, really. But these places are strange and wondrous. Full of light, joy, fantasy. . . . nightmares. The nightmares were uncommon at first, fleeting glimpses from the corners of your eyes, but they've been showing up more often, and in greater numbers. As the days go by, that frail and faded line between reality and dreaming begins to fray and eventually snaps. How will you take it? Will you strive to solve the mysteries? Will you fight to stay alive? What about the other people inhabiting these strange dreams? Your choices are yours and yours alone in this vivid Dreamscape. Ok, frivolities out of the way, let's get down to the bones and marrow. The setting is fairly simple: You will play someone within the macrocosm of the town High School be it teacher or student. The recent news around the town has been that there are people dying in strange ways with no common factor, and no logical explanation. Your character has started to experience these dreams, how they react is up to you and them. Within the dream it is possible to run into/interact with the other members of the RP. Now the nightmares, they are literal manifestations of your character's fears and as with most nightmares, they're trying to kill you. Combat starts as almost non-existent but eventual evolves through the character's spirit. Its what makes the character who they are in pretty much one or two words. This is also like the cumulative summary of your character's entire personality, if it helps to think that way. The way it works is that your 'spirit' will eventually manifest in some way. Now the time system will be a little awkward to explain, so bear with me here. It runs on a 3 day loop. Every three days will complete an arc of the story. At the end of the three days its almost like the entire thing resets, except that your character will retain some memory of the time they've already spent in the three days. Some people may have detailed and vivid memories others may have vague flashbacks, it's really up to you. The reason for this is that odds are people will die. I don't want people to get ousted and feel like everything was a waste of time. Another reason is I think it would be interesting to see the little gears of thought running through all of the character's heads when they get a chance to think about the decisions they've made before. Adds a little bit of a twist to the normal time lapses imo. So yeah, I want this RP to be a lot about social interaction between characters as they evolve and the mystery at hand. How you play it out is really up to you, so I want to see what people think of when they start and how it changes over time. I don't know if that even makes any sense. x3 Alright, I think I covered it all, so yeah. Questions welcome one and all. I think. . . *crosses fingers and hopes he has the answers* *************IMPORTANT EDIT***************** If you vote in the poll, especially if you pick other, please explain. It's there for feedback purposes and empty feedback is useless to me. So yeah, express your opinions/logic behind why you voted the way you did. Much appreciated.

| Cool concept. Sounds like a visual novel in RP form. What are we voting on though? |

Rather than voting I'll just tell you what I think. ![]() I think it's a very interesting idea and I'd like to see how it works. My question to you is in regards to the dreams vs. waking period of the game. How much time are we going to spend awake vs. dreaming? What kind of capabilities do we have in and out of our dreams? For example, if I realized I was dreaming could I just fly away to safety or start shooting laser beams out of my hands? It all depends on your interpretation of what a person can do in a dream. Is the object of the game to defeat our spirit or to stop whatever is making these dreams happen? Overall it seems like it would be fun. I think it's worth a shot. |

Yup yup, Ulti pretty much summed it up. ![]() So now on to your concerns. No, you can't just fly away or shoot lasers. However funny, no. Just no. I imagined the dream world to be less of a 'dream' and more of a 'world.' Make sense? It's like a second world in which the characters exist, only when they sleep, and later they blend together into this fantastical mosaic. The way that this Dream world retains aspects of a dream is through the character's Spirit. This is what allows you to fly/create/protect/etc. The characters wouldn't initial know how to use this ability, it would be more of an instinctual reaction, which could suck for some people and be more beneficial to others. Pretty much your skill works best when your character is in that state of mind that the spirit embodies. Make sense or am I blathering? I feel like its more the latter. :/ As far as the story goes, the mystery is who is causing all of this. There will actually be posts I make from this character's perspective, but I'm keeping it nameless/vague. But yeah, figure out who it is and stop it before you die. That's pretty much it. I don't think I answered anything looking back at that. But I'm in a bit of a rush with work in eight hours and trying to make sure I'm ready for it. ._.,,,,, ASK AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!! Well actually, don't really make ask go away but questions are much appreciated. I have the idea in my head and I've pretty much thought it all through, I'm just not sure I'm explaining it in a way other people understand. *EDIT* Ohhey, missed a couple questions I see. As far as time goes I wanted it to be a 50/50 split at first and slowly degrade to unknowns. Near the end of the Arcs you wouldn't really be able to tell the difference it would just be like unending consciousness. It would be broken down by School/Free/Dream. Essentially play out the school day with the other players, where most of the character interaction/formulating would take place since there isn't much threat during this time. The Free time would be outside of school but before people's bedtimes. This is exploration around the city, chance for extended dream time, extracurricular activities. Whatever your character does before they go to bed at night. Also a chance for some real world detective time or more formulating time. It's up to you guys how you really use that time. Ummm, also, not sure if I really answered it above. The dreams are like real life in fantastical places. No real supernatural/otherworldly powers or skills can be obtained by realizing that you are in a dream. The only thing that benefits you in the dream world is your spirit, which is a little finicky till later in the RP. Ok, now I think that answers everything. >>;;;; Edited by Sgt. Hmmmm....what questions do I have...questions...ummmm.... Oh right, time loop thing. You said we're sort of aware of it, but not fully. Or maybe fully, depending on what we choose. I'd actually suggest at the end of each time loop, the GM (You) decides how much and what we remember. Since you said this is a mystery, if you let us choose how much we remember, you risk letting the characters discover all the clues before you really wanted them too Also, since it's been a while since I last used this one:

Silly. Well I was thinking bits and pieces mostly. Like a jigsaw. You get some random non-related pieces at first but it makes a nice picture the more you get put together. ![]() But I guess that makes sense. I could do 'flashback' posts when I feel the character should remember something. I was just planning on using the honor system though. I mean, if your character has a terrible memory, then they wouldn't have very good memories of the previous arcs. Not everyone is a memory genius, not to mention sometimes its hard to remember the specifics that make it useful. Idk, it's something to experiment with. |

I like this idea. It reminds me of Shin Megami Tensei, though I'm not really sure how exactly. Maybe I'll remember why when I get around to playing it again. I've just got a few questions, What time of year/season is it? (I feel like I always ask this.) Is there any particular place in the real world that all our characters live in? Or is it just a fantasy town with a high school? Can we only choose from being a student or a teacher? When dreaming, would it be possible to wake oneself up on purpose or do we just wake up at a certain time? |

Modern day and I like Winter. Snow is . ._.,,,,, So yeah, Winter 2011.Location: Fantasy Town, Japan. The name is a work in progress atm and I want to try my hand and making a hand drawn map complete with a topographic version. Well not really, but it is mandatory that you are somehow involved in the school. That was just to give you a general age area I guess. I pretty much mean anywhere from the mid/late-teens to the elderly ages if you really want to. Just be present at the school. ![]() That's one thing I should mention I guess. You can realize its a dream, but it doesn't really help you in any way shape or form. I may have forgotten this early but its supposed to be more 'world' less 'dream.' So in a sense its like 24 hour consciousness. You would notice when you actually go to sleep, but the time is a bit warped so that in the first day you'll always wake up at the time you were supposed/sleep-inturrupted. It's like how you normally sleep really, knowing it's a dream won't help. BUT, the Arcs I think I mentioned are three day intervals. Things deteriorate very quickly, so after the first day the time between sleeping and wake becomes too blurred to notice anyways. I think that answers your question. Did I miss anything? *EDIT* I've also blackmailed Grunt into this and maybe vani. I may also be recruiting two new people in if they decide to join. >> Edited by Sgt. Tacoz, Jan 2 2011, 02:12 AM.

Any specific reason we're in Japan? Also, would day dreams bring us to this dream world? Edited by Thunder God Bush, Jan 2 2011, 07:47 PM.
