Not a faction, but a family/clan/etc. That is part of the factions. The character sheets won't be very complex or require a lot of information so that making a larger number of characters won't be so hard. That a little more clear? In other words you make a family like Akatsuki's Shirokita which will then be part of a faction.

And I present my interpretation/adding info for the Mazoku Clan.

Mazoku - "Demon Masters"
Techniques- Weapon choice is generally related to family. Families tend to also have particular Demons that they have contracts with (some demons of the same group will behave nicely, others not so much, it also depends on the level of respect they have for you).
There are 6 Schools/Philosophies, and the range of techniques is determined by which 2 schools a member has chosen as his (1 Demon and 1 World). A specialist has mastered 1 and their title reflects that, Lieutenants have mastered 2 schools, Captains at least 3 and the Head at least 4. Anyone can dabble how they see fit, but as one progresses further into adherence into a philosophy they find it harder to maintain an equal level of adherence in another. The founder of the Clan from legend is rumored to have adhered to all 6.
The Schools:

World-

Path of the Mind- Mind over body; favor: tactics, subtlety, politics. Grants greater concentration.

Path of the Body- Body over mind; favor: personal strength, valor, feats of heroism. Grants greater stamina

Path of the Eye- Wisdom and force of will, personal strength is superior to foreknowledge of the enemy or your own physical strength. Grants greater control

A bit of clarification in an example: A large battle is coming. Someone who adheres to PotM would send out spies or spy himself, they would prepare plans or even attempt to sabotage the enemy. PotB would tap into an inner storm and prepare himself for battle mentally, he would fire others up and inspire lessers. PotE would seek the calm interior, focus on loyalty and the rational of what must occur he would be a stern stoic figure contemplating and analyzing inward.

Demon (think of a WoW Warlock for lack of a better analogy, except the warlock can fight too)-
Pact of Transfiguration- Uses contracts to alter themselves. ex: you grow wings or your skin turns to stone.

Pact of Entropy- Uses contracts to call forth curses/afflictions/etc. ex: slows foes or envelops them in burning black fire etc.

Pact of Servitude- Uses contracts of call forth beings to fight or alter the landscape. Demons to fight for ya, or a greater demon pulls the land around the battle field up so that their is no retreat etc.

Organization-While other Factions tend to have one family as the constant head passing down the mantle of leadership from father to eldest son or the husband of the eldest daughter in lack of a son, the Mazoku head is elected. A council of 6, 3 Oni Masters and the 3 Combat Masters at the time choose the 7th, a human to be the head of the clan from one of the families. Masters are often the sages and priests of the clan. Old and venerable who serve places of advising. They are of no importance to anyone but the head.

Origin and Beliefs: The Mazoku have a deep reverence and affinity with the spiritual, they know and commune with the ancestors in the spirit world for wisdom and guidance and turn to the World of demons for strength and power to carry out their plans, for them power and strength is not found within you or by using the aspects of nature, but by communing and partnering with the supernatural that the world is a small part of.

Family List

Harukei-This clan favors the flute, katana, and deals mostly with demon foxes, wolves, and other dogs.
Head - Akachi Harukei- The current leader is a stoic leader who values power in small numbers. He is very removed and desires peace and quite above all. He is a stern merciless figure often when it comes to conflict. He prefers to find the peaceful solution and is fond of playing both sides if he can.
Member - Kiyuki Harukei- The wife of Akachi on the other hand is more prone to compassion, though when angered she is a force to reckon with.
Second - Naka Harukei- the daughter of the family who while innocent to the conflicts of the clans past shows the same convictions as her mother. She is in training to be a priestess.

Oh. I see. Well, you see, the original story I had for my family was basically just that, the story background. They're initially (at the start time of the RP) already part of the Akatsuki clan. That was the concept behind the family, their story of how they got into the clan and got together and how they started getting more people. I wasn't planning to actually RP all that -- RPing an already established story is such a pain anyways.

That's fine Frank. I was a little confused. :)

Also, Vlancer I like most of your ideas. I had already created the background and what not on my characters, but they are pretty similar. Also, Mazoku is the newest faction, having been roused together by Akachi during the previous struggles and conflicts of Japan. He had united the families of Mazoku into the faction. Overall, I had planned to have Mazoku work in more like families as opposed to a general faction party, but at the same time, working towards a common goal. So, in other words, most of the families would be working together.

So, your idea of having a councilish thing would be perfect, as having all the family heads represent themselves on the council (Or at least 6 or so of the more powerful/prominent families so there aren't a ton) who have Akachi as more or less a speaker of the house, sort of leading the whole bunch. Also, I really like the different technique classifications, so I will probably use those. Thanks for your work. >:)

Heh, I totally understand why you were confused, now that I've re-read that first post. And indeed, the first paragraph must've been a pain to decipher xD.

Updated faction information: Tentative (aka subject to change)

Akatsuki - "Sword Lords"
Techniques
Many of the Akatsuki Clan's abilities and techniques are based upon their weapons. While they are the Sword Lords by name, they do not necessarily all use swords. The weapons vary from person to person, but despite this, they all carry swords on them somewhere, typically in a standard daishō of katana and wakizashi. Many of the abilities that the Akatsuki then stem from the various weapons they use, aside from having exceptional martial skills, they can empower their weapons or channel energy through them to create devastating attacks.
Note: Akatsuki abilities typically are based upon raw energy and power, can be extremely devastating and often require a lot of concentration to make sure they do not go wild. Utilizing these abilities can be quite taxing on the users stamina.
Organization
The Akatsuki have always been lead by the Shirokita family, and currently the leader of the Akatsuki, despite normal traditions of being lead by a male, is lead by a female, Saka Shirokita, wife of the previous leader of Akatsuki who was slain in battle and whose daughter, Kikei Shirokita is the heir to Akatsuki. The traditional male leadership of Akatsuki will resume with Kikei's husband, when she chooses one, and then will pass on to her children.
Akatsuki forms five man squads of their Banshou, who are the supported by underlying squads formed by a combination of leaders of standard Samurai and loyal Ashigaru foot troops which make up the brunt of the Akatsuki military force. The support squads typically consist of two to three Samurai with at least ten to twelve Ashigaru. In most scenarios when battle is concerned, at least two or three support squads will accompany a Banshou squad.
Origin and Beliefs
The Akatsuki recently made its way to the top of the line in the last hundred years or so, becoming one of the top four Banshou factions. They were founded many years in the past by the Shirokita family which really didn't expect to expand as far as they did. With the additions of several other families, they started to gain power, and quickly accumulated a vast wealth not seen in most of the other factions or families. They have taken over the northern border of the city of Kamakura and turned it into a massive stronghold of buildings, walls, towers, farms, production facilities, and much more. While nothing like a castle meant entirely for defense, the Akatsuki faction headquarters is meant to house the entire faction and with the Akatsuki defending it, it becomes a formidable fortress.
The Akatsuki believe that no matter what, a country will never be entirely devoid of conflict, and as such support Zenken Gawakuru who shares a similar belief, and will put more stress on a joint military and policing force to keep the country under control, as well as his overall methods of economic growth and governing fit with the Akatsuki beleifs.
the Akatsuki are very close to each other, all living within the same massive complex, they have become like one huge family. They stress honor and friendship, as well as teamwork and dedication. They act more-or-less as an impromptu police force in the city.
Family List
Shirokita
Head - Saka Shirokita
Saka Shirokita rarely takes on any military role, and was merely left as the head of the Shirokita family when her husband was slain in combat. She is still very skilled with a Niginata and manages most of the Shirokita household, which is also the main portion of Akatsuki.
Heir - Kikei Shirokita
Kikei Shirokita is the Heir of the Shirokita family, trained not only in the martial practices of the Akatsuki, but the general female roles of governing the household family, making he a great asset to the faction. Kikei, in most cases, is generally a pretty good warrior, fighting with a single Katana, but being heir to the Shirokita family, she has inherited the families special ability, "Full Release". When the ability is activated, the power within Kikei is unleashed, changing her appearance quite radically, and giving her extreme power. In Full Release Kikei typically fights with a tachi in her left hand and a katana and her right hand.
Member - Kio Moraio-Shirokita
Kio Moraio comes from the Moraio family, not the Shiokita family, but, like many other members of the family, he is working his way in. He is known to be very charismatic, a natural born leader capable of inspiring those around him though it may often be through fear, as he tends to be rather imposing. He is an expert swordsman, easily thought as of being one of the Sword Saints once he finalizes his marriage to Kikei, with whom he is currently engaged. Kio Moraio is in possession of the Moraio family ability, a rare trait passed down to some individuals, called "Heavenly Bloodlust". Kio enters a state where the loss of blood further increases his power, exponentially increasing his ability, as this ability engages further, he attains a bright, gold and white aura of pure energy that in some of the most extreme cases, can blind people (not physically blind, but blind in the sense that the light is bright enough they can't look at it directly)
"The Sword Saints"
Captain- Sanosuke Shirokita
Sanosuke Shirokita, despite being the leader of the Sword Saints, doesn't always act like it. He likes to act "cool" and gets everyone into trouble, typically blaming everyone else for something. His plans always backfire, if they even work out in the first place, but despite all the things that always go wrong, as well as his attitude, he is a proficient swordsman, more or less unparalleled once he gets going.
Lieutenant - Shinpachi Shirokita
Shinpachi Shirokita is known for being utterly ruthless in combat, and unbelievably fast and deadly. His martial prowess are some of the most powerful in the entire Akatsuki faction. He tends to be somewhat dark and gloomy, but quite lively at times. Shinpachi is Kikei's brother by blood, and the only trueblood Shirokita in the Sword Saints and she seems to be the only one he really gets a long with without much trouble, though he is rather agreeable with Sanosuke. Shinpachi has a unique ability, one of two passed down through the Shirokita bloodline called "The Blades of Eternity", conjuring hundreds of blades of pure energy, he shreds the enemy by creating a swirling barrier around himself, releasing them into the area around himself to butcher any nearby enemies.
Member - Saito Shirokita
Saito Shirokita is the brains of the bunch. He's quite intelligent, but also a skilled combatant. His knowledge of the Akatsuki faction techniques and abilities is unparalleled, and he tends to be quite powerful when it comes to utilizing his abilities. He is more or less the "leader" of the group by keeping people in check.
Member - Hijikata Shirokita
Hijikata is the newest member of the Akatsuki Sword Saints, and is still somewhat immature in his manner. He's a prankster, and loves picking fights with Nagakura. He's quick in combat, and has a few nifty tricks that he seems to pull out at random that easily give him the upper hand.
Member - Nagakura Shirokita
Nagakura Shirokita is unbelievably strong, and wields a massive two-handed blade typically used to take down cavalry with relative ease. He's not always wise about the abilities and techniques he uses, and "Spams" them happily. Fortunately, he seems to have almost unending stamina.

Mazoku - "Demon Masters"
Techniques
Most families in Mazoku have a particular martial style and/or weapon selection that is typically commonplace among the members and the techniques of the Mazoku faction rely heavily upon supernatural powers, especially those of spirits and demons to function. Like their weapons and styles, most families also have a certain affinity for types of demons and spirits as well as the ability to control the demons or spirits in different aspects. Most of this is summarized through the different philosophies on demonic and spiritual control and affinity which are as follows:
Path of the Mind - Those who follow the path of the mind typically stress greater mental acuity, and as such are smarter than standard, are typically better at solving problems, and many times will control larger hordes or swarms of smaller demons and use them in a strategic manner to harass enemies or take/destroy/capture objectives without getting themselves directly involved. Those who follow the path of the mind typically favor: tactics, subtlety and politics to name a few and tend to have much better concentration.
Path of the Body - Followers of the path of the body are often exceptionally strong in a physical sense, and believe that bashing your enemies skull in faster than they can bash yours in, is the way to go. Intelligence is not a factor, tactics are thrown out the window, and assessing the situation is typically ignored. Those who follow the path of the body are often seen summoning one or two exceptionally large and powerful demons who also rely on strength to compliment their own skills. Those who follow this philosophy favor things such as: personal strength, valor and heroic, or as most people see them, stupid, deeds. Most of these members also have exceptional stamina and strength.
Path of the Eye - The path of the eye is greatly centered upon self-understanding, and most of these members have a very high understanding of their own limits and abilities. They are typically far more loyal, responsible, and in some cases, wiser than your average person. Those in the path of the eye typically have extreme control over demons, and as such, rarely have to worry about one going rogue and biting their own face off. Most of these members favor things such as: Loyalty, introspective views, and self-control.
Path of Transfiguration - The path of the transfiguration focuses on trust between the human and their demons or spirits as they seek to permanently or temporarily alter their bodies through the demons or spirits power. This can give them stronger abilities, greater strength, and more stamina than usual, but can be very dangerous if the wielder of these techniques loses control or the demon or spirit just decides it's time to find themselves a new master, which doesn't usually happen often. These members are very observant, especially in the regards of whether or not someone is trustworthy. Members of the path of transfiguration favor things such as: observation, loyalty in others and respect towards demons and spirits.
Path of Entropy - The path of entropy is devoted to the process of 'cursing' opponents by utilizing demons and spirits to damage or disable them. Things such a utilizing a spirit to negate their abilities, or a demon to latch on and slow, or another to burn the enemy. In essence, it focuses on utilizing demons to attack the opponents directly instead of through their normal means. Members of the path of entropy favor things such as: Obedience, torture and disabling tactics.
Path of Servitude - The path of servitude, in a manner of speaking, is similar to the path of the mind, but has a few different aspects that are slightly different. It does not focus upon strengthening the mind, but uses many demons at once, similar to common path of the mind techniques. Demons conjured from the path of servitude typically are used expressly for combat, unlikely path of the mind demons used for sabotage and the like. These demons are particularly useful for fighting and manipulating the landscape.
Note: Mazoku abilities tend to rely on demons for their power, be they summoned or augmenting their abilities. This makes them difficult to control, but tends to give them no limit to the amount of power they can use, making Mazoku Banshou very dangerous. Summoning and controlling demons requires concentration and stamina.
Organization
The Mazoku, unlike most other factions, do not rely on each other family to family as much as they do inside of their own families. This has resulted in the faction being spread out, increasing their area of influence. To keep things together though, the head of the powerful and prestigious families are typically sent to a council of sorts lead by Akachi, the founder of Mazoku. On average, there are about six or seven members of the council, including Akachi.
Most of the operations undertaken by the Mazoku will be within the families themselves, while larger operations might have some inter-family workings.
Origin and Beliefs
The Mazoku were just recently formed from the chaos of the recent conflicts in which the previous leaders of Japan were killed off one after another. Originally there were many separate families and smaller clans the shared the current Mazoku beliefs and practices, and when Akachi revealed himself, he brought together the families and clans to create a powerful new faction under his leadership and the guidance of several of the powerful family heads.
The Mazoku have a deep reverence and affinity with the spiritual, they know and commune with the ancestors in the spirit world for wisdom and guidance and turn to the World of demons for strength and power to carry out their plans, for them power and strength is not found within you or by using the aspects of nature, but by communing and partnering with the supernatural that the world is a small part of. Unfortunately for the Mazoku, others do not necessarily approve of their methods or beliefs, and view them negatively since their goals are not always apparently for the good of everyone.
Family List
Harukei
Head - Akachi Harukei
Akachi Harukei is, without a doubt, the most feared and, likely, most powerful man in the entire kingdom. His martial prowess, as well as his ability to control demonic forces make him undeniably powerful. He is quiet and rarely speaks, but when he does, he gets straight to the point, and he tends to go a bit overkill on people. He has a unique ability (non-hereditary self-developed ability) that only he seems to have that he calls "Undeniable Possession", which can forcefully project demons into a target, and then by the use of the Harukei family ability "Demon Puppets", he can take control of nearly anyone and use them for his express purposes, though it can definitely hamper his own movements and other abilities, the possessed can be forced beyond their normal limits. Kachi is the husband of Naka Harukei and the father of Kiyuki.
Second - Naka Harukei
Naka Harukei is a rare sight, especially outside of the Mazoku headquarters where she makes her lair. On the battlefield, she is nearly as fearsome as Akachi, commanding the powers of "The Hell", an ability passed down through the Harukei family, and only certain members are capable of handling it. The Hell is a mass illusion and summoning spell that encases the battlefield within a nightmarish illusion and projects hundreds of demon spirits to destroy her opponents. Naka Harukei is rather reserved in her personality and tends to play with her target more than she should. She is the "wife" of Akachi, but merely seems to be there to fill the position, as he seems rather uninterested in her as a wife, but more so as a partner in the faction. She is the mother of Kiyuki.
Member - Kiyuki Harukei
Kiyuki Harukei is known as the 'Demon Caller', and seems to have an unsurpassable ability to call and control demons, though she doesn't seem to be able to do much else. She has very little in the way of martial abilities, and relies on her demons to do everything for her. Typically, she spends most of her time wandering around enemy territory, sitting around and playing her flute, which she claims 'charms and soothes demons and monsters', appearing to be nothing more than a cute and innocent little girl, that is, until she gets serious. Underneath he happy-go-lucky exterior she is quite the little bitch. She is the daughter of Akachi and Naka Harukei.

I'm making some progress on those Akatsuki abilities I mentioned. If you want, I can show you what I have so far, or I could wait to have my current ideas mostly finished and put down before showing it. Everything is currently in ConceptDraw MindMap format, so I can either put them in plain text, make an image, or put it up on GoogleWave. Whichever works.

Yo, so I have an Elemental Kings clan/family centered around lighting in the prototype stages. I had some wicked sick idea about them using their control of lightning in their passed down martial art that's similar to Iaidojutsu.

Dunno when I'll get the chance to actually write that out, but I was pretty excited about it. I have some decent hype for this idea, so it needs more support. Post your support people!
