As GW2 comes to a conclusion, I felt that now would be a nice time to add an interim type RP. I'm sort of just testing the waters with this here as I'm not sure if I covered it all or if anyone will even be interested. >.> A Modest Proposal No need to fret, this has absolutely nothing to do with the suggestion to eat young children to control population and eliminate famine. However, this is a modest RP proposal. Locale: Arc Light City Description: This is an entirely fictional city, so it’s fairly different, but still like modern American/Japanese/European cities. Sort of a jumble of different styles and architectures to make for unique arena choices. There’s the uptown and downtown sectors as well as a few cultural sub-districts with their own unique building styles and landmarks. There are also a few landmark areas just outside of the town’s limits, but still viable places. The downtown district is a modernized place, a lot of skyscrapers and large malls or other pastime buildings, like hotels, clubs and theaters. The sub-districts of the uptown area are the ghetto, business district, the developing area and the public land area. The ghetto is the decrepit part of town, masked by fences of glittering skyscrapers and screaming highways. Mostly consisting of alleyways and run-down apartment buildings with the occasional abandoned business building or strip mall. The business district is located near the outskirts of town, almost a horizon backdrop, if you will. This district is characterized by the grid-like placement of the buildings, varying in height to give an almost stair-like quality when viewed from a distance. A lot of the buildings here are actually sitting atop underground parking structures for employee parking and the busiest subway stations in the town. The developing district is an annexation to the business sub-district that is incomplete. Consisting of skeletal building frames and high fenced lots peered over by metal machinery, this makes for an odd appearance in glowing moonlight. The public land area is quite straightforward, it’s the closest thing to a forest in the entire city, complete with a large pond in the center with a small well in the center bordered by submerged walkways forming a path of sunken docks. Under these walks, however, is a viewing area under the entirety of the water with its dome like shape circling the central well. Though parts of the park are heavily wooded, there are also open fields and a looping pathway through it all. In the uptown, it is the mostly residential and lower-end business areas. The sub-districts are the residential, the education district, the china-town district, the small business district and the restaurant district. The residential district is the common urban sprawl facing most large cities nowadays. Mazes of roads with generic names like Oak and Maple lead through the miles of this district. The older houses are near the entrance of the district, notable by their modest structures and similar yards. As you get further into the neighborhoods the houses get bigger and yards more flamboyant with their white picket fences bordering the sidewalks. The Educational district is where most of the schools can be found. One of the more disjointed districts, it is a bit out of the way being located near the town border, and no business have made their ways into the district, so all that remains are the schools with their sports fields and buildings. The schools within the district are the basic elementary, middle, and high schools while there is also a community college starting to grow in the area as well. For some odd reason, the Chin Town district ended up in the uptown area. Your usual china town, it has foreign supermarkets and shops carrying strange and wondrous goods for anyone to purchase. There are also a few entertainment buildings based solely on foreign arts, like the theater, museum and foreign movie complex. The small business district is the strip malls and other locally started business too small to move to the uptown. Family grocers as well as antique stores and small movie rental places are staples of this district, as well as the Wall-mart and Target that stick out fairly well. The final sub-district is the restaurant district where all of the well-known sit in restaurants have made their claims. That’s really about it, nothing special. >.> A few of the outside landmarks are the Racetrack, the Hunting Grounds, and the coast. The racetrack is a simple NASCAR track, able to sit up to 100k people with all of the normal features of a racetrack. The Hunting grounds are actually a heavily wooded area surrounded by a fence topped with barbed wire, resembling more of a border to a prison or mental health facility than a hunting ground. The trees in this area get really tall and their falling leaves sometimes tend to conceal the numerous small rivers and creeks that trace through the grounds. The Coast is a cliff coast, overlooking a large bay. Mostly shrubs grow here as most plants find it hard to take root in the varying fine sand and hard volcanic rock. It is said that the coast resembles a horseshoe when viewed from above. That covers it for the districts, landmarks will be noted down for each district when this gets accepted. Character Archetypes: Fantastical – Able to use magic to perform unreal feats. While this character type is good at creating powerful spells, they have to be careful in using them as they run out of energy a lot quicker than other character types which manifests in average fatigue. They also lack most conventional weapon training and have to rely solely on their spells in combination with their henchmen’s skill sets. This type is also very limited physically, just about the equivalent of a regular person. Of course, I trust that people who pick this archetype would be logical with their abilities and not spam fireballs and say ‘oh, I still have plenty of energy left *summons bahamut*.’ That’s another thing, try to be original. Realistic – Close to superhuman and able to use varying weaponry. This character type is good at using weapons, usually of a specific set like ranged, though a bit more specific than that, with high physical skill. This character type also may not be able to do as much damage, but they don’t expend energy like fantastical characters. While these characters are good with weapons, it takes a little bit of thought when pairing their skill set with a henchman type that would be beneficial. This class is able to perform near superhuman feats of physical ability, like jumping from rooftop to rooftop where most people would fall to the ground, to state an example. Also, skills for this archetype is more focused on using weapon types or moding the weapon to have some special effect. Mixed – This is just a mix of the two types. It is not as good at performing unreal feats or superhuman tasks, but makes for a more balanced mix. Where Fantastical types can rarely, if ever, use weapons, this type has the ability to learn how to use weapons and mods, though not as diversely as Realistic types. And where realistic types can perform near superhuman tasks with a wide range of weapons, mixed is only above average with their physical talents and they sacrifice weapon variety for magic. There is the option to sway towards one type over the other, but just to make it clear, there is no way to be on par with a 100% realistic archetype while you also have spells and vice versa. The System: Combat – The combat of this RP will PvP in a specific style. The style is a ranked type, with players being categorized as rank 1, 2, 3, 4 and so on based on the order they get their sheets in. It goes down to however many I determine after gauging reaction to this proposal. If interest is small, but large enough to start, people can make multiple characters with whatever’s left getting filled by NPcs. For main combat, people of lower ranks are only able to attack those one rank higher, though those at the top can attack anyone below them that they chose, though this is rarely done unless one character poses a great threat or are just one rank below. When it comes to kill versus save, there’s no difference. You get all of the same rewards and whatnot either way, so base it on character personality. If a character is spared after losing, then they lose everything and go down to the lowest rank and have to start over with just their clothing and skills. When entering a ranked fight, you must pay the fee and then the person you are challenging gets to select an arena for the fight. The arenas must be specific, no simple answers like ‘rooftops’ that can mean damn near half the city. You are limited to keeping the arena within the district you chose and with specific limitations or landmarks to base it on. I.E: park lake, no solid land contact, underwater dome are and submerged walkways only, or skyscraper square rooftops only, ground is off limits as are the insides. That kind of thing. If you have trouble picking a local or want to know more about a landmark, or some landmarks within a sub-district that you are unfamiliar with, than just ask me about when you want to select your arena and I’ll describe in detail. The rules of engagement are the basics of PvP, essentially no cheating and obey the laws of the chosen arena. However, if your character is killed in battle, you are welcome to make a new one to start from the beginning with. Money- Basically your lifeblood in this game, the red stuff counts, but this is more important in the path to the top. Money is earned mainly via side quests, which you can just think of mini-bosses. Now these mini-bosses could also have valuable information or resources you can get in exchange for letting them live, though odds are the next person to pick it up after you fail will just kill them, or you will. Either way, they die. Money is also granted at the end of fight and value is determined based on the rank of the person you are fighting. You also get all of their money when you win, so that’s a nice little bonus. Money is used to purchase abilities, a sort of growth, and it’s similar to the rare FoE system. See the abilities section for details. Money is also used to purchase weapons or just upgrade what you already have, it’s up to you. Another thing money can purchase is henchmen. This is if you prefer to have them or not, it’s up to you to decide how you build your character and subsequently derive useable strategies. See the henchmen section for more information. The final use of money is to set up fights. A small fee is required before each fight, no matter what rank you are fighting. The fee is just a fourth of what your winner’s reward is, minus the loot you get from the loser. All money will be monitored and adjusted properly by me or any other GMs, so no need to fret about needless calculating on your part. Abilities - I applaud those of you who know the FoE system, if not, here’s the gist: You write up an ability you want your character learn, go to the blacksmith/arms dealer/archives/church, all one forum, enter your locked sub-forum and post it up, and a GM will respond with the equivalent price based on the determined power of it. That’s all there is to it really. For realistic characters, abilities amounts to weapons/weapon mods and any specific physical capabilities you want. Fantastical characters get whatever spells they wish here and can also get artifact forms, essentially single-cast charges of any spells they already know. Henchmen – This is the same as abilities. Go to the Henchmen section, access your locked sub-forum and post the sheet of the henchmen that you want and however many you want and a GM responds with the price. Henchmen are used to perform a specific strategy in fights and can help alleviate some weaknesses of a character. Though nowhere near as strong as actual characters most of the time, unless you have a good amount of cash on you, they are valuable nonetheless. That covers what I came up with. I still need to design a character sheet skeleton and draw up a map for the city, but I think I got everything else. If anything is unclear or if you noticed I missed anything you think would be important, please let me know. ^.=.^ |

Sounds pretty cool, but I have one question... what about those who have mechanized body parts, or those who are mainly mechanized with few biological body parts? I like what I see here, so I'll consider joining. |

Well, I hadn't truly thought about mechanized people. >.> Maybe if your weapon was a melee type that was a wearble item, like gloves rather than swords. I don't really think this would be cyborg-y/futuristic in a sense of the characters. The weapons canbe a bit out there, but that's part of the fun, imo. But as far as characters go, I'd like to keep them fairly normal in make and structure. Now if you still want to press the idea of a mechanized character, I'd have to see a sheet before any final decisions. In order to do that, though, I'd have to create the sheet skeleton, which I have yet to do. >.> |

Well, you've already heard my thoughts on the idea, but I'll just say that I like your proposal. It's a fairly simple system and concept with a few twists, but since it's a PvP-style RP, I think it more than suffices. I'm sure you and the players can make this a very awesome experience. : P So long as I'm not too busy this summer, you can count me in. Edited by Grunt_of_War, Apr 22 2010, 11:00 PM.

Well, Fare pointed out that I didn't cover the arenas as well as I should have, so here goes. Arenas - Arenas are selected by the person who is receiving the challenge to a fight. What it really comes down to is picking an arena that suits you character's fighting style as well as their personality or history. Arenas are only limited in that they must stay within a single sub-district. Now if it's something that can span multiple districts, like the subway, then it must be specified which districts you must stay under. Other than that, an arena can be anything. Now there are also issues for picking arenas that may be too big, so say you want to pick a skyscraper, the inside floors from ground to top would be better than from the lowest parking structure level to the roof and the outside. So arenas must be chosen with attention to detail and environmental hazards if there are any. When an arena is picked, there can also be laws set to it. Laws are essentially what you can't do even though it is within the arena. Say someone picks the NASCAR track, they could have a law that says you must be on a moving vehicle at all times. How that would work will be explained when anyone actually tries to do it. Another example would be if someone picked the hunting grounds, the could have a law that says you can't go up into the trees. The repercussions for breaking a law of the arena is automatic forfeiture of the match. Another detail is that magic doesn't have to be hidden during fights. Since all fights have a predetermined arena and time, the organization running all of this has the time to vacate the area so that the fight can take place without any issues or need for secrecy. Now if attack anyone outside of a fight, you may run into issues. >.> Ummmmm, I think that covers all I missed. Again, if anyone has questions don't hesitate to ask. |

| PvP detracts from the story IMHO. The kind of thing we didn't allow back where I came from because it caused too much issue. In any case, I'll be sitting this one out. If I want to do something like this I'll pull out Melty Blood. :p No offense to you Taco. It looks as if you put a lot of effort into this. And it is built well. I just don't care for workings and type. :p |

No problem, Ulti. Ya know, I really thought about that being a big issue because I couldn't think of much other than focusing on PvP when it came down to it. >.> |
