Note: This may not be that clear, so if you have questions, feel free to post them. I didn't write much up, because I didn't know how many people would be interested, and thus this is just a taste, not the complete idea. So, yeah....questions are welcome and will be answered.

Infernal Legions

There are some places within the world where planes collide, weakening the very boundaries of reality that humans have come to understand. These rifts have existed since the dawn of time, sometimes strong, other times not so much. It is through these rifts that various beings, enigmas to our world, have entered, among them…demons. Though the rifts are never there for long, and not very often, demons have entered our world since its very creation. To combat these invaders, various organizations have sprouted up over millennium to drive the demons out. These demon hunters tend to hide their existence from the world, as they’ve hid the existence of demons. Anything that threatens to reveal them to the rest of humanity is eliminated quickly and quietly, to the best of their ability.

Except this time their ability might not be enough. For years now, the scientific community of England, based primarily in London, has been working on a cheap and easy method of transportation, almost the equivalent of teleportation. The result? A series of way gates, connected to a network, allowing people to travel from one gate to another. In mere seconds, a person could be half way across the world. At least, that was the original idea. What happened was quite different. It happens that the portals happened to weaken the boundaries between the realities…

“Professor, how long until you have this thing operational?” General Crutcher said, smoking a cigar. The British officer looked around the underground facility once more, making sure everything was secure. What they had here could change the course of history. If handled properly, it could lead to the British becoming the superpower of the world. His spies had already uncovered a numerous amount of leaks. He couldn’t afford one right now.

“Not very long, General. The gate is almost at full power. Once it reaches the maximum, we will open the portal. If all goes right, we should have confirmation from the Manchester gate.” Professor Landry said. He had just arrived at the facility, after dealing with the press upstairs. The leaks had proven to be a great hindrance. Landry had managed to give the press what they desired without revealing anything about the project below. Not that it truly mattered anymore. They were mere minutes away from testing, but if it failed, then if any other countries learned of their research now, well…Landry could only hope this test went well. He knew Crutcher was thinking the same thing.

Landry walked towards the steps to take him to the lower level. There was no time to put on a lab coat, nor any reason to. Not now. He walked down the metal stairway in the same clothing he had appeared before the press in, namely a nice shirt and tie, slacks, fedora, and a trench coat. He had just hung up his hat and coat when he was called. “Sir! The gate is at maximum capacity!” One of the scientists shouted. Landry hurried, finally reaching the ground floor, where before him stood the giant gate. Already he could see the energy they were storing begin to flow within the portal’s frame. “Excellent. Initiate the warp sequence. Let’s see if all that funding has paid off.” “Yes sir.”

The energy within the frame began to glow, shooting out tendrils of blue into the portal itself. Everyone within the facilities held their breath as they waited, all praying that the test would be a success. The sound was almost deafening as the portal ripped through time and space as the energy swirled, filling the previously empty space. No one spoke for a while, until once scientist looked at the computer screen. “Portal is stabilizing. It worked!” A massive cheer went up around the facility, but Landry was unconvinced. Something was strange here. The portal shouldn’t have finished stabilizing just yet. They had not received confirmation from the other site that they had even activated their gate. Landry walked towards the portal, sticking out quite a bit in his street clothes, yet he did not care.

The others were too busy celebrating to catch what Landry heard. It was a soft laughter. There was something very wrong. The laughter began to grow stronger, more sinister. “Bloody hell…” He swore, stopping in his tracks. “SHUT IT DOWN! NOW!” A few of the other scientists had also noticed the laughter, and quickly began typing in the codes to deactivate the portal. The energy levels began to drop, and the swirling vortex started to vanish. Landry let out a sigh of relief.

“Landry! What the hell do you think you are doing?” Crutcher yelled from the observation desk. Landry turned to stare up at the General. “Excuse me, sir, but there seemed to be some complications. I do not believe that the portal opened up to its counterpart.” Landry swallowed his next sentence, knowing that the General would simply call him a daft fool and order the test to continue. He didn’t believe that that laugh had come from anything of this world. “Hell, Landry! I don’t care where you opened it up! This was a success! Now, turn that damn thing back…” Crutcher stopped talking, the cigar in his mouth falling from his slack jawed mouth. Landry didn’t even have to turn around to know what he was staring at.

“No, no…there shall be none of that.” The sinister voice said from behind Landry. The voice rumbled through the underground facility, causing the machines to shake. “You opened the path, it is quite too late to stop it now.” Landry turned around.
The deactivated portal began to swirl again, as two large red hands tore through the energy, pulling it outwards, reaching the sides of the frame. The laughter filled the lab. All around Landry, the scientists began to panic, running away from their useless computers towards the stair way. Landry stood there, his mouth as wide as Crutcher’s had been. “How…” He muttered, as from the newly opened portal a monster stepped out. The monster stood up fully, having bent to fit through the gate. Standing upright, he was almost twice the size of the gate. His six pairs of wings unfurled, as wide as the gate. “Dear lord…” Landry said, though he was still rooted to his spot. Those words were the last he ever said. “BWAHA! At last…” The demon said, as he sent Landry flying against the wall with a swat, smashing the poor man’s back, as well as most of his limbs. Landry fell to the ground, his entire body broken. He could feel the blood pooling up inside of him. It was all going fuzzy, the giant demon began to blur. Soon it all went dark, and all he could hear was the infernal voice. “The door has been opened. Let all fall before the might of the Legions! This world shall soon know true fear…”

Organizations:

The Hunters of Abaddon: This organization is based primarily in England and handles most of Western Europe, though it does have a sister organization overseas in North America. This organization has existed in the underground of England since the English Church began. Its members include the Hunters, half-demons, and magi. Originally a part of the Anglican Church, and thus under the command of the King, it has long since separated. In fact, they are officially disband according to royal decree. That doesn’t stop them from continuing their duty. The weapons typically used by the Hunters of Abaddon are anything from modern weapons like handguns and rifles to the medieval weapons such as swords, hammers, and crossbows. However, secrecy is of the utmost importance to the Hunters of Abaddon, and thus the more noticeable the weapon, the less use it can have during the daylight and in public areas.

The Holy Inquisition: The oldest Western demon hunting organization that exists. It traces its roots back to the very first exorcism performed by Jesus Christ in the New Testament, though the organization has changed quite a bit since that modest beginning. For centuries the Holy Inquisition has known about the rifts between the worlds, and has used it to their advantage, developing their own magic. The requirement to join the Holy Inquisition is to be completely devoted the Lord, as well as showing an aptitude for magic at a young age. Inquisitors are feared throughout the world for their zealousness, though not all fit that stereotype. Indeed, some might say the Holy Roman Church’s Inquisition is just a front for a far more capable organization that lies beneath it. Their agents can be found across the world, though their presence in the United States and other European Protestant countries is minimal. That does not mean they are not there however. The main conflict that the Inquisitors and the Hunters of Abaddon have is that the Hunters of Abaddon allow half-demons and magi into their ranks, both of which the Church deems as infernal, and thus something to put down.

Liè Rén Yāoguài: This is the Eastern Demon Hunters Association. Originally created in the heartland of the Chinese empire during the Han Dynasty, this organization has since come to include members from all across Asia, reaching as far as India. Due to the long distance between the LRY and the Hunters of Abaddon, the two have no need for a formal treaty. However, the Church and the LRY have had clashes in the past, mostly do the fact that the Inquisitors believed the LRY to be filled with pagans, and thus, demons themselves. They have since signed a treaty, granting certain areas of Japan to the Church under their jurisdiction, as well as the city of Hong Kong and the nearby land.

Classes:

Hunters: These are the normal human demon hunters of the Hunters of Abaddon. They do not possess any magical ability and rely solely upon their own fighting skills and strength to defeat the demons. A good blast from a shotgun also helps. Their will to fight is only exceeded by their firepower.

Magus (Infernarii is the official term granted these people by the Church): Those humans who have chosen to take up the path of Magic. However, this magic comes at a heavy cost. Each spell costs them a bit of their humanity. If a magus uses too much of his power, he may end his life as a demon within a human body. See below in the Magic section for more information.

Half-Demon: As their name implies, these are a hybrid between humans and demons (not all demons come here to destroy the world after all. Some simply come for a good time). They are not as strong as demons, and nowhere near as powerful in magic, yet they are certainly stronger than normal humans, and they do possess rudimentary magic skills. They are, however, forced to hide their demonic attributes when they are out in public, lest the common folk learn of the existence of demons (You get to design how you look. You can look more demonic, less demonic, it’s really up to you).

Inquisitors: And finally we reach the Church’s demon hunters. These demon hunters are all proficient in Holy Magic (See below) and are faithfully devoted to the Church. However, since their magic requires a great deal of control, lest they destroy their own world or someone else's, magic takes a great deal to learn. Thus, those Inquisitors that are young and capable of physically fighting tend to be less magically inclined than those older Inquisitors who have had a chance to study and perfect their skills. Their choice in weapons tends to make little sense to the Hunters, who prefer to use guns or at the most archaic, swords. The Inquisitors weapons tend to be holy objects, imbued with the Holy Energy. Thus, they could be anything, from a sword to crosses to a fork. A fork…of TRUTH! Yeah…I’m done for now.

Magic:

All demons have magic, and all magic is demonic. That does not mean that only demons can use magic. There are three types of magic in this world: Pure Magic, Faustian Magic, and Holy Magic.

Pure Magic: This is what the demons and half-demons wield. It is, as it is named, the purest form of magic currently known. The other two magic are nothing more than variations of this form. Full demons have more control over this magic than those with diluted blood. This magic is destructive and deceitful in nature. This magic comes from the blood of demons, allowing them to use it without any sacrifice. It is part of them, it is who they are.

Faustian Magic: This magic is the form that humanity can handle. As its name implies, a human who uses this magic essentially sells themselves to the demons. This does not mean that they need to make a deal with demons to use magic. What this means is that since they lack the demon blood, to use the magic they must sacrifice something internally: their humanity. Every time a magus uses his skill, he kills a bit of himself. The larger the spell, the larger the damage to his soul. If he passes a certain point, the magus ceases to be human. Indeed, he is little more than a demon in a human shell. The nature of this magic is chaos and death, though since it is a form of Pure Magic, it does also grant them quite the ability for destruction.

Holy Magic: This is the Church’s magic. In many ways it is more similar to Faustian Magic than it is to Pure Magic, despite visually appearing to be closer to the other. Holy Magic, to the ignorant every day man, appears to not need a sacrifice, but this is far from the truth. Indeed, Holy Magic needs every bit as much a sacrifice as the Faustian Magic. The difference, however, is where the sacrifice is taken from. The Faustian Magic requires the human to sacrifice themselves, an internal sacrifice, while the Holy Magic instead demands an external sacrifice. Each time the Holy Magic is used, the sacrifice is taken from a world. It does not have to be the one the Inquisitor is residing in, and indeed, only the newest of the Inquisitors ever draw the sacrifice from their own world. This magic generally tends to be the Order to the Demonic destruction and the Faustian chaos. It is not the magic of life, but it is the magic of truth, and as I said, order.

In case you still don’t quite understand the difference, I’ll try and sum it up in less descriptive terms. Remember, these are just loose guidelines. I will be approving or rejecting any spells you submit, so if you go overboard, I will cut it down.

Pure Magic (Demon form – Unavailable): Pretty much anything destructive can be considered the Demon’s domain. They have the ability to shape shift, allowing them to look like anything they wish to. Any spells that fall under Pure Magic (Half-demon form) or Faustian Magic can be used by demons.

Pure Magic (Half-demon form): There are a few things different between the Pure Magic that demons use and the one half-demons use. Primarily, half-demons do not have the ability to shape shift. They also lack the ability to cause wide-scale damage, limited to a more controlled range. Destroying a city block would be considered a great feat for a Half-demon. Fire is their specialty, as well as mental spells (specifically dealing with other people’s minds).

Faustian Magic: Unlike the Half-demon magic, Faustian magic deals less with the deceit part of the Pure magic and more with the destructive part. Their destructive capabilities are quite impressive, able to level an entire city block easily. However, anyone who uses this magic, as I mentioned above, kills a part of their humanity, soul, personality, whatever you want to call it. Yes, I expect you to show your corruption, and not just use this willy nilly. The larger the spell, the heavier the cost. Think about that.

Holy Magic: Ehhh…use your imagination. It’s holy, it’s white, have at you.

Lol, I'd join this. :3

Can we get a general plot line up? I'm assuming it deals mainly with killing the big demon that hijacked the portal in the intro, but I would like to be sure.

The main plot is to destroy the gates that have been hijacked by the demon before he can bring forth all of his legions. Due to the fact that the gates were simple prototypes, he couldn't bring forth his entire force just yet, and so you must stop him. That's really it :P Well, that's not it...but that's the simplified version before I actually type up all the story.

Alright Bush, is this enough people for your RP, or are you looking for more people? Either way, your RP is accepted, so send your sub-forum's specs to me or another active Admin whenever you're ready.
