Uglykal (transfer); Fury warrior application
Topic Started: Jan 10 2010, 05:44 PM (845 Views)
Uglykal

Character Name:

Uglykal

Armory Link:

http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Thaurissan&n=Uglykal

Currently playing on horde side although should I be accepted I will be transferring ASAP.

You may notice that I have apparently not made my mind up with my gemming choices. My gems are based around my anticipated Needle Encrusted Scorpion trinket that I am still farming. I understand that in my gear armor penetration will add more DPS point for point than strength and plan to be soft capped as soon as I get my NES, if the gods of RNG ever let me have one!

Class:

Warrior

Character Spec:

http://www.wowarmory.com/character-talents.xml?r=Thaurissan&cn=Uglykal&gn=Vitality

18/53/0 Fury. Fairly 'cookie-cutter' spec, I took all the obvious max DPS fury talents with the obligatory deep wounds and 2h weapon spec from arms.
'Optional' talent choices:
-Heroic Fury: for greater mobility in fights such as Northrend Beasts and the add phase on Lady Deathwhisper. I also just love the charge mechanic, its the reason i rolled warrior in the first place.
-Improved cleave: for AoE fights such as Anub'Arak, and pulling 8k DPS in heroics xD.
-Booming voice/Commanding Presence: I am generally the one who maintains commanding shout in my guild raids and these talents are extremely useful for this purpose, and who can argue with more hp!

I also have a well geared (mainly ilvl 245) prot offspec that I am happy to use occasionally when needed, however what I am really interested in is joining as a DPS, I just find it much more enjoyable.

Real Life Age (16+):22

Raids 8.30pm -11.30ST **Raids can go past scheduled times.
Usually, invites will start at 8-15pm ST and pulling by 8.30ST.
-Are you able to make these raid times (Server time: PST) Yes or No?

I am, and promise to make 100% of raids (bar emergencies and special occasions) with the exception of Sunday:

For as long as I can remember my family has had a tradition of meeting every Sunday night at around 7pm for dinner. I am usually back between between 8pm and 9pm although occasionally I will get back rather late. In these cases I will know on the day and can advise an officer I will be unable to attend beforehand.

What is your raiding experience:

Vanilla: Completed everything but old Naxx at level 70 and 80, didn't play in vanilla unfortunately.
Burning Crusade: Everything up to 7/9 BT and 4/5 Hyjal pre 3.0 nerfs.
WoTLK: All the easy stuff, two achievements of my Rusted Proto Drake, uld10 clear, 12/14 25uld with FL+4 and Heartbreaker, 4/5 ToGC10 (sadly no 25 progression although I've experienced plenty of Beasts and Jaraxxus attempts) 5 bosses down in 10man ICC and 3 down in 25man, with plenty of experience on 25 Saurfang and 10man Rotface.

Just to address my lack of hardmode experience: I am a very loyal, patient and friendly guild member and have a 'bad habit' of joining guilds and not wanting to leave them after making some friends. As fate would have it the guilds I joined were very easy to get along with but not very good =/. As a result I've experienced Ulduar and ToC/GC wipes (and some Icecrown) to the point where I know every fight mechanic inside and out.

-Are you familiar with the content we will be raiding?

Yes, and I always research new content as soon as I can, even if it is several bosses ahead of our current progression.

-Do you have Ventrillo and a Mic?

Sure do, and I don't hesitate to speak up when necessary.

-Why do you want to join Smashed

I wish to raid in a high calibre guild and contribute to the progression of Icecrown hard modes. Sadly I do not feel my previous guild is capable of downing Arthas, which I desperately want to do.

-Do you have a good grasp of your class? Have you read forums and done the research to ensure you play at the highest level? Could you give a brief explanation of you class role in a 25 man raiding environment?

I love the warrior class and am very experienced in all three specs, having spent a large portion of wrath as a Prot warrior main tanking Naxx, Ulduar and ToC and having a great time with the 'kill it before it kills you' play-style of arms PVP.

The two roles of a fury warrior as I see it are:
-Buffer/debuffer (depending on the make up of the raid), and of course
-DPS

Should there be a lack of a prot warrior in the raid, a fury warrior's most important job is to maintain sunder armor and demoralizing shout. As fury has a lot more free global cooldowns than arms it is much less of a dps loss for a fury warrior to maintain debuffs. I will typically prioritize sunder armor above all other spells when it needs stacking, assuming there are enough DPS to benefit from sacrificing my own DPS.

Fury warrior 'rotation' is a priority system of WW > BT > slam procs, with heroic throw whenever everything else is down. Fury warriors must also maintain rage: maximizing rage usage while not risking becoming rage starved. I do this by spamming heroic strike (or cleave in aoe situations) as a rage dump when I have more than 60 rage.

-Do you use addons to help maximize your healing / dps? If so, which ones?

-What are your past guilds and why did you leave? (please note if you are in ANY current guild)

After a brief break from WoW I leveled my warrior towards the end of BC and joined a guild called Colonial Icons at the beginning of Wrath. I had a great time farming 25Nax easy modes with them. However with the release of Ulduar guild progression struggled due having too many people who enjoyed standing in fires and generally poor attendance. By this time I was an officer leading my own 10 Ulduar group and had some very good friends in the guild, so I endured for about 4 months longer than I really wanted to, by which time I'd had enough and went on to join Egarden.

Egarden had some much more skilled players and progressed quickly but also had a GM and raid leader who had some serious anger issues. I don't mind a bit of vent rage when it's warranted but this guy just took all the fun out of raiding...After a few weeks I Gquit and joined Vitality where I have been for the last few months.

Up until today I was an officer in Vitality. Similar story to Colonial Icons really; good people, bad players. Again I have some great friends in Vitality and as such put up with the slow progression but I also had some issues with the GM that culminated in me Gquitting today, to find a new home.

-Do you have any relevant healing / dps meters you can link us to (screenshots of recount or w are acceptable)

No. Vitality does not use logs and I have no recent screen shots of my DPS. I will generally pull between 6k and 8k (spiking to 9-10k) DPS depending on buffs and the fight itself.

-Will you be able to maintain a MINIMUM of 80% raid attendance?

Yes

-Will you come prepared to raids with appropriate consumables (food, flask etc)?

Yes, I am always flasked for raids and do not rely on fish feasts for a food buff, as there are higher DPS options available.

-Do you ever have latency issues, or do you suffer from disconnects regularly?

No.

-Do you ever suffer from unstable frame rates that cause you to freeze or run in place?

No.

-Are you applying for any other guilds?

Not currently

-Who do you know in Smashed?

Sadly nobody..yet!

Have you read: Smashed's Guild Charter

Yes, and I agree and am happy to comply with everything i read.

The IMPORTANT QUESTIONS: Choose wisely.
Pie or Cake?

I am tempted to say a chocolate mud cake (so disgustingly, fatteningly awesome) but the humble cake just does not have the same scope as a pie. A pie can be savoury, a main course, an entree, a desert, a snack, sweet, sour and everything in between. Where as a cake is just..sweet. What if I don't feel like something sweet!? WHAT THEN!?!? yeah i thought so...

Vote pie!

Are you a dramallama?

HELL NO!

"Seen mostly on video-games, this is an insult directed towards a player in substitute of the word "noob". Specifically, a "llama" is an individual who is so lame that he or she wears leather pants to the grocery store."

I'd never wear leather pants...

And honestly I hate anyone who causes drama just for the sake of it or because they didn't get that shiny purple they wanted. Loot should be an added bonus to raiding, not the reason for it.

"you get epics to progress, you don't progress to get epics".

Regards

Sigh...missed a question, should really have waited till morning to post this app...

-Do you use addons to help maximize your healing / dps? If so, which ones?

I use Satrina's Buff frames to display slam and other procs and track debuffs, DBM to scream at me when I'm standing in the bad, and bartender to customize my bars and display my mains skills larger, with OmniCC to show the exact cooldown on each ability on my bar.

My UI

Wow. Just wow. Amazing App. Will you marry me please? I hate to say it, I am reading this app at 6am having still not slept and having read and responded to various app's and this app just makes me want to log onto horde side, see if you are on, run to wherever you are and /hug you. I got everything I needed to know from your app. You have set a new standard in apps in my honest opinion.

The ONLY drawback at the current moment is the fact that we have so many melee dps at the moment finding a spot for you would be difficult, however I am willing to try hard to look for space to fit somone who puts THIS much effort into an app. I am impressed.

Also, your non cluttered UI is a breath of fresh air. Anyone who keybinds and has a sexy and clean UI usually doesn't die to stupid shit.

The officers will have to have a chat and get back to you. In the mean time, if you have any questions feel free to post them here. One thing that would also be helpful to know is, are you willing to compete for your spot in the raid? I.E. be benched if underperforming etc. Judiging by your app I can't really see this as a problem, you seem like you know what you are doing however it may eventuate.

1/1 Heroic Fury
4/5 Commanding Presence

What fights justify the choice of taking Heroic Fury as a talent at the loss of raid utility?

You do make a good point. In most cases the extra utility from commanding shout certainly outweighs the increase in dps time. Should I be accepted I will be happy to respec into 5/5 CP.

However I originally spec'd into heroic fury with the Heroic Northrend Beasts Encounter in mind. Vitality was having some trouble beating the boss spawn/enrage timer and i felt I needed to push out every extra bit of DPS I could. With the release of ICC I also found it rather useful for the pre-nerfed Lady Deathwhisper, who's enrage timer was also giving us some grief due to poorly handled adds and dead DPS.

That's fine, I wasn't requesting you change it, and I can see Heroic Fury being a massive dps increase. I was more or less just trying to think of specific encounters where it would be used and couldn't think of any that you couldn't stance dance/intervene and stance dance/charge back to the boss. We only have 1 other raiding fury warrior at the moment and 1 application. This means that we don't have a warrior with 5/5 CP all the time. That's just my thoughts, Good luck with the application, and when you transfer go Human Warrior for the free trinket and you don't need heroic fury.

Curious, which race do you plan on changing into Uglykal?
