Let me spin you a tale. Our story starts on the last game of our day in Paintball Jungle. Fine weather, warm. The game had begun. I ran forward to help our cause on the front lines. Paint flying everywhere, my only choice was to obey the commands being shouted from Captain Feathers. As I stood, back against a tree, firing wildly at the distant foes, I realized that is was a stalemate, or at the very least, a slow moving troll-fest. As I contemplated my new-found boredom, I decided to return to Kevin.

Kevin was not always the smartest kid, a real "joy" to talk to. As I went AWOL from my platoon, I kept an eye out for my Mexican, shorts wearing amigo with his "radical" shirt. I finally returned to Fort Dave, where Kevin had been defending when I last saw him. All that was left in the fort were a couple noobs, and Kyle Murphy. Kyle was a funny kid that day. He went in several rounds carrying only a pistol. He has guts, I'll give him that, but I didn't even know what was to come.

As I quickly scanned the base, I shouted to Kyle. He hadn't seen Kevin anywhere either. Rumor had it, he had already gotten out, but nothing was for sure. The lonely tower defender, with his rental Tippmann 98 Custom, hadn't seen him. As a matter of fact, he wasn't even alerted to the existence of the neck-bearded man. Kyle and I decided to leave the kid behind, we would return later with news of the ongoing war. As we approached the battlefield, stray shots found their way to the two of us. They were non-lethal however, and inaccurate too. When Kyle attempted to fire back, we both listened to his gun in dismay. Instead of the loud shouts usually emitted from a CO2 propelled gun, there was a long, drawn out fart-like noise. A sign that meant Kyle was out of ammo.

Any lesser man would have left the field in this situation. But no, Kyle was better than that. He knew that with the right strategy, he could be credit to team, and possibly over nine thousand times greater than the noobs we met up with in a few minutes.

Finally in the line of fire, Kyle and I took cover behind a chest-high log, along with three other kids. These three were obviously new recruits, their guns and firing style showed this. As they hid behind the two of us, Kyle and I devised a plan. Within the nearby base rested our objective. The beautiful enemy flag would be ours soon. In our way were numerous obstacles, but as is evident in most fights, the least skilled and experienced are the ones defending the castle.

Taking advantage of this lack of experience, Kyle stood up in plain site. As lethal paint flew everywhere around Kyle, I stuck my gun and head over the log and took aim. Taking out one, maybe two of the shooters, everything was going according to plan. This wasn't enough yet, and we only have the lord to thank for the foolishness of the defenders, as we attempted the same maneuver again, to great effect, taking out another two of the defenders.

As Kyle and I contemplated our next course of action, memories of Kevin popped into my mind. Thoughts such as "where the fuck is that kid?" ran through my mind. All that was left in the base on my visible side were two campers and someone inside the MG nest. None of them were possible to take out cleanly, and we would certainly suffer casualties in the charge. Running out of options, Kyle decided to risk his life to save our cause.

In a blur of speed, Kyle sprinted across the twenty yard gap and hugged the wall of the base. I laid down some heavy fire, as I had just reloaded. He peered inside the walls of the fortress and laid his eyes upon the objective, sitting on the ground. At this moment, he decided to act. As I watched him run, I could not see what was going on. I did not expect to see my friend again. There was no logical way for him to make it out of there, there was just no way.

The impossible happened on that fateful day. I sat in remorse, thinking of what to do, when the kid sprinted out the front door. Paint flying everywhere. Nothing hitting him. He ran as fast as he possibly could, in his grip the flag. I stood up and fired a blistering 10 BPS while he ran out of there, and as the three noobs behind me asked what to do next, I just shouted "keep them away."

The run back was fast, I followed Kyle at full speed, still keeping my weary eyes open for counterattacks or resistance. It never came. We made it back and exchanged high-fives. The ballsiest play in Paintball Jungle history had happened that day.

It was not without loss, however. Kevin had been shot in the process. What he did for our cause I do not know. As a matter of fact, he could have been useless to our war. But even so, I would like to commemorate Kyle for a Medal of Honor and Kevin for a Purple Heart.

It was just Max Sean Kyle and I, he couldn't invite anyone else. In a couple weeks though we're getting a bigger group together. (Kevin just happened to be there through coincidence.
