So, I planned on making this earlier and being the first in this forum, but Karl beat me to that since I'm lazy. So I was thinking that each week (or sooner) we should talk/discuss/debate about a political issue at hand, to get to know each other better.

The current topic, immigration, was chosen because Arizona recently passed a bill that allows for much easier deportation of illegals. (http://www.economist.com/world/united-states/displaystory.cfm?story_id=15954262)

Thus, I was wondering what you peoples' views on this were. I am against this bill as it is racially profiling hispanics. Also, on immigration in general, I support a guest worker program along with a domestication policy, but stricter border control.

Absolutely not, I cannot believe that it's gotten this far. It's a federal issue, seeing as the whole country is being effected, and therefore the government should be the ones dealing with this. It sucks for this guy that he chose a state that happened to be right next to the border with Mexico, but he should have thought about that beforehand.
I personally believe we could combine border patrol with some sort of military training (ie guarding something) so it would be a lot stricter and more efficient. I also believe that we should incorporate some sort of worker program, but they'd have to put restrictions on that (I don't know what, we just can't have as many illegal immigrants coming over just because we somehow have jobs that they can do).
Also, military service could potentially be a free ride to a citizenship.

I believe it already is a free-ride to citizenship. The first guy killed in Afghanistan was a hispanic immigrant. And yeah, this law is bullshit and racial profiling.

I somehow have the feeling that me and you (and possibly Vinny) are going to be the only ones contributing to this thread... :(

here's the thing to think about though (concerning the arizona thing) This would require you to have your green cards on you at all times...and the authorities can stop you at any time and ask to see said green cards...and if you don't have them on you, you're in big trouble...so can we draw any parallels to this and what might have happened in the past?
