everything, including capitalism, including socialism, has it's flaws. we just need to find an appropriate balance of it all. or, if no balance can be found, go for either capitalism or socialism, as those seem to be the only two that can hold it together for long periods of time.
and i disagree, i don't think it's too late. we can begin to incorporate more socialist ideas into society, as long as we do it slowly enough.
But we can never become fully Socialist without denying human nature.

I have now, and I agree slightly. According to Heinlein, author or Starship Troopers, humanity is instinctively coded with a will for survival. Depending on each person and other factors, this can either be just for one's self, all the way up to preservation of life in general. However, the ability to get long term survival as the ultimate goal would be like rehabilitation for the masses, which is wrong. Besides, most humans are coded just for survival of self/group, and it would take far too much work and changing each person to be survival of the species.

Also, this does not account for the natural greed present in humans, nor anger or anything else.

so we need to band together in groups of like minded individuals and wage war on the other groups so that the one most sincere about the preservation of humanity will dominate.....lolz
of course humans have a natural will to survive. that doesn't mean that we will, especially considering the fact that there are so many things that could fuck us over (nuclear war, asteroid, plague) all of these could potentially have survivors, but it would set us back many thousands of years. eventually these setbacks would become impossible to overcome, and humanity will perish in one final hurah. Humans can only survive against factors that they can control at the time, such as disease or war (non-nuclear). but there are a lot of things that could lead to the end of us. we are incredibly fragile creatures, and it wouldn't take a lot to completely rid the earth of us.

Yeah, but no matter what we will die. Nothing in the universe is infinite, and while I agree that we must preserve ourselves as much as possible (which I believe capitalism mixed with socialism will achieve) the human race will die out eventually, even if it by evolution.

like in Idiocracy, which could happen.
I think our biggest short coming is the fact that we are incredibly shortsided. and by preservation of the race, i even mean for the next 2000 years. we could potentially not even see the year 4000, the way we're going.

Well hell, I didn't mean Idiocracy. I mean we actually evolve into a different race. I believe our biggest weakness is people who rely on faith rather than logic. Not a knock at religious people, but rather people who just hope for the best instead of working problems out in a thinking way.

i was kidding about idiocracy. i think that now that faith has gotten us this far, we need to start relying on logic to get us further. that's the last post from me for the evening, night yall

I completely agree that we need logic, but I feel that faith is very important too. For some, faith is their motivation, and without a motivation there is no use for logic. Personally I use both. I use logic to my best ability and then stick out the rest of the way with a little hope and faith.

I feel like that is trying to mix water and oil. They are such complete and polar opposites that a mixture is very hard to preserve and not worthwhile in the end. If you've noticed, Capitalism can easily evolve into socialism, but vice versa is not so easily done. Usually it takes a major revolution to change from a socialistic country to a capitalistic one. This is because of people's greed for money and power. When the power structure gets the taste of limitless greed, they never willingly give it up.

No, I don't mean mixing completely. I mean taking elements. For example, look at the police and firemen. Socialized.
