It's good for public services, such as roads and firemen. However, for other things such as health care, I believe the government should provide a base level and you can buy others, mixing socialism and free market.

do you think that we will eventually be a socialist nation like Sweden or Austria (or even a mix of capitalism and socialism)?

Sweden and Austria aren't full socialism: they still have private businesses. And slowly but surely, we will become a mix, starting with this health care bill.

I look at socialism the same as military pay: you don't get a lot, but there are lots of perks.

if socialism is how things were, and would always be, it would be da bomb, but now it's too late. Captialism ftw.

Sean knows where it's at. The best society is one where people do things for the good of humanity and themselves, not money, but that would go against human nature.

everything, including capitalism, including socialism, has it's flaws. we just need to find an appropriate balance of it all. or, if no balance can be found, go for either capitalism or socialism, as those seem to be the only two that can hold it together for long periods of time.
and i disagree, i don't think it's too late. we can begin to incorporate more socialist ideas into society, as long as we do it slowly enough.
people don't realize that the ultimate goal should be the preservation of the species (of humans) and that we should do this without fucking up the earth the way we have been. as far as that goes, however, I just don't think that humans are capable of cooperating enough to ensure our survival in the long term.
