He'dd done it...all the missiles had been avoid, but the problem is now he still had to outrun a mountain of rock fragments before the crushed his mobile suit. Nickle deactivated the beam sabres, housing them in the Void's shoulders once more. Just when things couldn't get any more difficult, they did. HIs sensors began flashing indicating new heat signatures heading towards the asteroid belt. "Greeeat..." Nickle signalled for the DRAGOONs to reattach, so that he'd have only one piece of equipment to bother controlling as opposed to 5. He heard the beams impact and send more asteroids towards him, shards scrapping against the Void's armour and tarnishing its colour scheme. Snarling slightly, Nickle banked the Void to go up above the debris again, leaving it exposed and face the Freedom. Nickle was breathing heavily, his eyes closed. The fans outside watching on the tv screens stood in silence, waiting to see what he was going to do. All of a sudden, his voice spoke to Ayane via her comm. link, having found the signal again. It was also broadcast out into the arcade. "I must say I'm impressed you thought of looking for the METEOR. Not bad for a first timer in this system. But," One of the Void's arms reached behind its back, drawing its final piece of weaponry that had not been used in the battle yet. "I'm afraid I'm going to end this, Ayane-san." As if happening in slow motion, the double bladed ASBS was slipped into both of the Void's hands, being held in a ready stance in front of it, before a green beam activated on either side of the sword. Nickle grinned. "Come on Ayane, my heart is racing, see if you can stop me." With that the Void boosted towards Ayane, with only the Dios ASBS active. It was time to show her that you didn't need the biggest gun just to win a battle. |

Saito couldn't help but bite his lip as he watched the two mobile suits flit across the screens, barely missing critical hits on each other. It was a tense battle, even from the sidelines. He felt a small sound escape his throat when the Void appeared from behind a nearby asteroid and charged towards the now strangely-equipped Freedom, a large blade in it's hands. Whatever that thing was, it could not be good for the Freedom. Damnit Ayane, what are you doing!? Retreat! Cannons are useless in this kind of situation! Clenching his fist, Saito stared at the plasma screens before he realised what he was doing. He shook his head and re-focused on the screens. Wait, what do I care? Even if she loses, it's not the end of the world! Even so, he couldn't help but hope that the Freedom had a trick up it's sleeve (or massive shoulder attachments, anyway). Meteor On Ready?
|
Ayane smiled as the Void jetted up from the asteroids into the clear. Her plan had, as it had before, worked flawlessly. Here he was, ready to take her on head-to-head. She had to admit, he was pretty damned confident in that Gundam and his skills to take it against the Freedom Gundam, especially with METEOR. Her smile faded as her radio crackled back to life, hijacking the same channel she'd used to contact the METEOR remotely. "I must say I'm impressed you thought of looking for the METEOR. Not bad for a first timer in this system. But..." Nickle's voice trained off through the static as the Void stayed in place, slowly drawing a large weapon from its backpack. "I'm afraid I'm going to end this, Ayane-san." The surprise at Nickle using the channel faded, and was replaced by Ayane's resurged confidence in her tactics. "Oh, really? I'd love to see you try," she bluffed, as she made sure that all her weapons were active, and were returned to focusing on his Gundam rather than the asteroids. All set. She was ready anytime. The massive weapon in Nickle's hands glowed brightly as green particles sprung from either side of it, forming a massive beam blade. Even larger than the ones carried by the sword-specialist Gundams, she was pretty sure! It was... not good, if he actually managed to hit her with it. That weapon would definitely be able to slice through both the METEOR's and Freedom's armor. So that was it. He was taking this up close and personal, where the METEOR was weak, with a weapon that specialized in eating massive mobile weapon platforms for breakfast. "Come on Ayane, my heart is racing, see if you can stop me!" Nickle called out, blasting forth and closing the gap. Ayane chuckled a bit to herself, manipulating the weapons controls. "Roger that." In the first moment, the remaining missiles--those in the larger wing-based pods only--leapt forward on an intercept course. They were just adding insurance, though. If they hit, great. If not, so be it. No... it was time to teach him that she didn't merely have the biggest guns. She also had the biggest swords. Pulling a sub-trigger on the controls, the forward beam cannons on the METEOR sparked before springing forth two massive pink beams; the METEOR had anti-ship beam sabers as well! So, sabers at the ready, she blasted forth at full throttle towards him. Her plan? Parry his sword with her left saber, swing around with the right to attack. She didn't like close combat, but if it was a swordfight he wanted, then dammit, it was a swordfight he would get! |

Nickle smirked. He'd been expecting something like this.He continued to rocket forward, launching the Caballeros at the same time. As the missiles approached, the four DRAGOON shileds went ahead of him, while he activated the right spray gun and began firing ahead of him, now holding the Dios with one hand. Several of the missiles collided with the shields and the shields kept moving, trying to intercept them. The plan was for the shields to create a tunnel of sorts, allowing the Void safe passage while the spray gun cleared out the missiles ahead of it. The Void flew threw the DRAGOONs, however, 2 of the missiles impacted with the Void as it finished coming through. "Grragh! Damn!" Thank god for phase shift. Everything still seemed to be fine, but if that had been a beam, the Void would have been done for. The DRAGOONs followed the Void, moving on either side behind it as it continued to charge the Freedom, holding the Dios with both hands again. There were still several missiles in hot pursuit, but Nickle had a plan. As the Freedom's own anti-ship beam sabres came out, Nickle activated the Segadors, sending two per ASBS to block them. It may have been big, but a beam weapon could still be blocked by a beam weapon. In this case, it would take two beam saws to be able to effectively block one ASBS. As Nickle approached the Freedom, with the Segadors blocking the Void thrusted over the Freedom and aimed to go behind it. The catch, Ayane's own missiles were coming at her now, still having homed in on the Void. Nickle kept the Dios ready to block as the manuever was executed, knowing that Ayane was going to come at him with a vengance now. Rather be prepared to block than to be caught flat footed. |

There had always been that possibility. The whole reason she had been reluctant to use beam sabers originally was due to those blasted DRAGOONs; one of them could hold a beam saber at bay, thus keeping you in the open where you'd be dead meat. And apparently, Nickle was confident that two per saber would be enough to stop the momentum of METEOR. And for the most part, he was right; his DRAGOONs couldn't stop METEOR's sabers completely, but they slowed down enough to make them ineffective. Void just soared on by, getting behind and underneath her. And to make matters worse, her missiles had decided to continue tracking him, and thus were coming right back. She'd have to abandon METEOR, for now. Quickly, she punched the controls for the docking mechanism, leaving METEOR on its previous actions--thus keeping the beam sabers active and the DRAGOONs busy--and detaching the hip joints. She didn't blast away, though; instead, she punched a single thruster cluster and pivoted upside-down, now suddenly underneath METEOR and facing Void in perfect firing position. The DRAGOONs were behind her, caught in combat with the METEOR's ASBSs. Even if he tried, they wouldn't be able to come around in time. Ayane smiled, activating HiMAT Mode and pulling the triggers for her Xiphias railguns and Balaena plasma cannons. The beams lanced forth, focused on Void Gundam. "Game." |

Or so it seemed. Nickle wasn't about to let this little manuever discourage him. As Ayane undocked the Freedom, his ASBS was pulled back and aimed to pierce the METEOR from behind. Nickle then, needed to cut his losses. If he wanted any chance, he'd have to sacrifice two of his DRAGOONS. Each of the METEOR's beam sabres could be blocked by one Caballero, at least long enough for the second one to escape, before the remaining ones were sliced in half. Nickle pulled out the Dios from the METEOR, just as the Freedom took aim from below and the remaining 2 DRAGOONs freed themselves. The missiles where still coming and Nickle had literally seconds left. He could really only do one thing, ride the explosion out and avoid the incoming beams. He boosted away from the METEOR as he pulled out the Dios, sending the DRAGOONs away in another direction. As the beams fired, Nickle boosted. The problem was... BOOM The one raigun blast tore through the Void's left leg, shredding it and sending the Void careening off the direction Nickle had decided on going. Gritting his teeth, Nickle set to work on restabalizing the Void. Preparing his boosters, it was time that he finished this once and for all. |

Though she had been right about the DRAGOONs not recovering in time to block for Nickle, the slippery fellow managed to avoid all but one of her four shots. The one shot from her railgun that nailed him in the leg did send him spiralling off course, but that was a far cry from the sure defeat she had been aiming for. After all, now she still had two of those blasted DRAGOONs to take care of, as well as the Void. "Well, not really," she said, answering her own thoughts out loud. "I still only have to take out Void." The missiles had begun impacting METEOR, which was already starting to explode from the sword strike Void had given it moments earlier. So, as anticipated, Ayane abandoned the weapons platform, soaring after the Void at full thrust. A beam rifle would be nice right about now, but it was floating somewhere; she could take a moment to find it, but that would give him time to recover. No... she'd just have to keep using the big guns. With that she took aim at the slowly-recovering Void and let loose with her four beam cannons. It was time to finish this once and for all! |

The cockpit was ringing with the sound of warnings. Nickle needed to act fast before he could react effectively. "Block all ion pumps still supporting damaged servos, re-route power to remaining systems, restabalize thrust controls to function with newly calculated algorithms." One by one the settings on the OS flashed green. None too soon either, for the Freedom had just taken aim and fired again. Nickle activated his thrusters, now having calibrated them to compensate for the Void's lost leg. The blue flames of the engines came to life as the Void jetted out of the way of the Freedom's attack and towards the Gundam itself. Nickle housed the Dios. It would be too clumsy in the type of fight he was planning for right now. Instead he drew his beam rifle once more into the Void's right hand and left beam sabre. Again, Nickle did not plan on activating the beam sabre until later. He aimed the beam rifle and the beam gatling gun in the Void's left arm. Nickle fired off a volley from the gatling gun and 3 shots from the beam rifle, aiming the three shots at the Freedom's limbs as opposed to the cockpit or the main body. If it was just one arm short, then it would be a serious disavantage. Meanwhile, as the Void drew closer, Nickle kept monitoring the DRAGOONs. He had sent them out to the maximum of their control range once he escaped the METEOR's explosion. Now he was recalling them closer in, so that they could assist the Void in fighting the Freedom. |

Meteor On Ready?

Annoying! Ayane thought to herself, biting her lip as the Void recovered and seemed to move with perfect stability. Apparently Nickle was not at the same disadvantage she was when it came to this game... he seemed to have Coordinator reflexes when it came to recovering and adapting to his damage. If she weren't his opponent, she'd take some time to be amazed by it. Instead, it was just plain annoying. She had to be careful not to be put in a similar situation, or the onboard computer would have to take care of balancing things out by itself, which was likely going to be significantly less effective than actively reprogramming the systems yourself. And then it came; he leveled his beam weapons and fired, this time aiming significantly to her sides. He was going for limbs! Rolling to the side, then blasting upwards a bit, then rolling back to the other side, she managed to dodge the shots. At this long range, it wasn't too hard. If they got any closer--which he was--it would get harder though. "Guess I just give it another shot..." she mumbled to herself, thumbing the weapon controls and once again preparing the four beam cannons. This time, rather than focusing on the Void, she targeted the barrels to box him in. Or rather, her angles made it so the only safe direction to to was upward. Again, she didn't expect him to be foolish enough to actually get hit. But if she could just get him to be somewhere predictable... it was worth it. Still...waiting sucked. She was so much better at just running in guns blazing than coming up with a strategy to execute. But Nickle left her no option. He was too good for anything less. |

Predictable. If Ayane hadn't thrown away her beam rifle, she would have been able to deal more damage to due to at least having one more gun to shoot at him with. However, after having dodged these attacks for several times, Nickle was getting pretty efficient at it, even more so. That and with all the testing he had done on the systems to make them as realistic as possible, combined with his own technical aptitude, made him a decent Gundam pilot. As the beams came at him, Nickle did a barrel roll, moving up and over the right Ballanga beam cannon. By dodging in such a way, the Void would be able to dodge in the only way he had been given option to and still return to its charging of the Freedom once the manuever it was complete. Aiming the beam rifle and gatling gun again, Nickle let off the exact same volley of shots as before, this time focusing the attacks on the torso. The DRAGOONs were coming close now. Nickle needed to keep their heat signatures low, so he kept the beam weaponry on them deactived and kept firing at the torso so as to hopefully hide the incoming remote weapons. |

"Damn!" Ayane yelled as he merely rolled out of the way, not going the direction she wanted him to. And those remote weapons were still out there somewhere too, even though she couldn't sense or detect them. They weren't on his backpack and she hadn't destroyed them. They were out there...somewhere. Nickle refused to let up. It was getting...annoying. She just wanted it to end already. These... 'tactics'... were straining her. Not to mention, each time she tried to make something predictable happen, something completely different occurred. Where had she gone wrong? At the beginning, when she decided to try strategy instead of rushing in and finishing things with a tour de force. Right about now, that was looking like more and more of a better idea. No! she thought, admonishing herself for being so impatient. That's just what he wants. That's just what they all want is for me to rush in without a plan. One more... one more shot. One more try. Taking another breath to try to calm herself down, she mimicked Nickle's move; rolling to the right, out of the way of his shots. They were focused, easy to predict. Too easy. She was sure that whatever his intention was with these ineffective volleys, it probably had to do with where she was moving. Was she playing right into his hands? It doesn't matter, she thought, gripping the controls tightly. There's nowhere to run to even if it is a trap. I don't feel like sitting in an asteroid field for half an hour being a coward. Her resolve once more steeled, she pressed the throttles to their limits and sped directly for the Void. Well... not quite. She went directly towards him, but under his current trajectory. At this rate, they'd pass right by one another quite soon... |

Gotcha. As Ayane dodged his shots and charged, Nickle cut his thusters, the momentum of his previous movement still propelling him slightly. He then tossed the Void's beam rifle at the Freedom, waiting till it got close before firing at it with his gatling gun and making it explode just as Ayane got near to him. Redirecting his thrusters, he aimed the Void at Ayane and prepared for close combat, drawing his other beam sabre and activating them both, charging at her and preparing to slash. It was at that same moment that the DRAGOONs caught up with them and began to home in on Ayane, aiming to attack her, but avoid accidentally attacking Nickle in the process. It was time to end this, with a final climatic beam sabre battle. At least, that's what Nickle would have preffered. It was becoming tedious chasing after her all the time. |

Well, this was it. Nickle tossed his beam rifle at her, and instinctively she raised her shield... but her shield didn't completely protect her from the explosion as he blew it to smithereens. She could feel it and hear it as shrapnel panged against the Freedom's armor, the shield melting down somewhat from the point-blank superheated explosion. She wouldn't stop with just that, though. He dove at her with both beam sabers at the ready, but she ignored him, and adjusted her course just slightly; back to flying under him. She flew past, avoiding his intended slash... ...and without turning around, fired her plasma cannons. Since they were tucked into the wings, as soon as she got past him they were aimed, point blank, at his backside. Yeah. She really didn't want to take this to a beam saber battle. She'd lose, if only because if she stopped moving, those damn DRAGOONs would finish her off. A totally uncool way to go out. Forget that! |

Impressive, but Nickle wasn't about to give up the ghost yet. Flipping a switch, he detached the Dios from its holding compartment on the Void's back. He activated the thrusters once more and boosted away as the plasma cannons hit the ASBS and caused it to explode at well. When something held a battery powerful enough to produce two ASBS beams, it was bound to cause some fireworks. The explosion had disrupted the other beams, so Nicke had once again pulled a move out of no where to save his behind once more. Only this time, it was a little more literal. As the Freedom pulled away, Nickle directed to Void to face it again. Ayane was extremely skilled for a first timer, he had to give her credit for that. However, so was he. The battle could rage on forever at this rate. Sighing, Nickle opened up the comm. link once more to Ayane, deciding he'd put her through enough. They could settle this match some other time. He'd seen all he needed to. The other girls hadn't lasted nearly this long. "Ayane, that's enough." The remaining DRAGOONs returned to the Void and mounted themselves onto its backpack. "I'm happy to say, you've exceeded all my expectations. Congradulations, not only have you gotten yourself that job you were looking for. But I'm making you...Assistant Manager!" If she was this good in a game at piloting a machine that was as realistic as any car or tank, her technical expertise had to be credible. "Sakarako, terminate program and bring me that blue V-Piece. My new employee needs to look like she's part of the business." |

Success! An explosion filled her rear screens as the plasma cannons struck his back weapons, which he had ejected from the Void. She turned the Freedom around to face him, preparing for another all-range shot...! "Ayane, that's enough." "...eh?" Ayane blinked as the Void hung there in space, facing her. Was he serious? She was catching her breath, which she hadn't realized until now she had been holding. He seemed serious about it, though; his DRAGOONs reattached themselves to the Void, which had returned to an idle state. "I'm happy to say, you've exceeded all my expectations. Congratulations, not only have you gotten yourself that job you were looking for. But I'm making you... Assistant Manager!" Ayane was shocked. She expected to maybe get a janitorial job, or a counter job, something like that. But Assistant Manager? Not in her wildest dreams. Didn't that mean she got a full-time, permanent position here?! She was so deep in thought and shock that she missed him telling Sakarako to turn off the simulation, making her return to reality a little jarring. She just laid in the simulator with her eyes wide, and her breath still quick as her body tried to come down from the intense combat she'd just experienced. ..you know, and finding out she was going to be spending most of her time in a state-of-the-art arcade. |
