Nickle waited patiently in his cockpit, the black and white mobile suit's main functions had not even been activated yet. Nickle had used it countless times before, practicing in various environments. Although space was the only one that it could be used effectively in. The 'Caballero' shielding worked best here any way. Slowly the clock was counting down and the minutes passed.

When the final two or so minutes came, Nickle began flipping switches. "Activating quantum cortex, preliminary start-up functions and engines systems green, redirecting ion fuel pumps to sections one thourgh eight, neautron jammer canceller operational...activating phase shift armour..."

The robotic voice would be heard in both mobile suits now, "The game has begun! God speed!"
Nickle's foot worked the footpedals, the engines and thrusters coming to life, "This is Nickle Ryuko, Void launcing!" From the shadows, the unknown unit soared forwards at a moderate pace, moving between the asteroids.

Spoiler: click to toggle

Nickle may have been at the other side of the battle field, but one needed the element of surprise in an environment like this.

Just as a note, I did not draw this MS, but I did colour it and franken on a few bits and pieces, likewise for the ASBS.

Whoops, didn't link to an image of the M1 Astray Pilot Suit. I don't have a really good pic, but this will have to do:

http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/1952/22738646737df1f909008bcpz7.jpg

Finally, it was down to the final beacons. Taking a calming breath she sat back into the seat, getting comfortable in a position that would be more suitable for piloting a Gundam. She did a quick check-over of the indicator panels, making sure there were no irregularities and that all her weapons were ready to go. Then made sure that her contingency plan, which she hoped wouldn't be necessary, was also prepared. "Picus, Lupus, Balaena, Xiphias, all check. Sensor suite, ok. Direct-line communications secured. Ion density and flow normal. Nuclear reactor critical. Power flow stable...all systems, all green. Freedom, systems all online!"

The final marker vanished. "The game has begun! God speed!" came Sakarano's voice over the intercom.

"Ayane Isuzu, Freedom, launching!" With a wide grin she threw the throttle controls to max, the Freedom's thrusters lighting with a bright blue flare. It sounded so cool to do that for real! A real Gundam! A real Gundam pilot! Switching her hands back to the main controls, she pushed forward, soaring towards the asteroid belt.

No reaction yet on sensors, she thought to herself, analyzing the radar display in the center of her console. Plenty of asteroids, but he must be quite a ways away even so. Then again, without these, it should also be easier to detect him. Guess it wouldn't hurt to clear these obstacles! After all, the Freedom had a Nuclear reactor... it wouldn't deplete her of resources if she fired at the asteroids. Flicking the switch for HiMAT mode, the radar in her console jutted upward, and she began tracking targets. The set of asteroids right in front of her would become her first prey of the battle!

Freedom's wings opened outward and expanded, the Balaena plasma cannons folding up and over the shoulders. The Xiphias rail cannons unfolded as well, and her Lupus rifle took aim. With all five guns aiming at different targets--with enough power to go through more than just the initial ones--she pulled the trigger! "Take this!!"

Beams lanced out across space, slamming into asteroids and blowing them to smithereens, creating spherical explosions and clouds of rock-metallic dust in their wake. Already, she began targeting another bunch. If he was planning on sneaking through this field to get to her, or coercing her into them... she wasn't going to have it!

Nickle smiled. The Void had kept moving through the belt, keeping its engines on a low a heat signature as possible. However, when Ayane began blasting away at the asteroid belt, the shift in radar frequencies and incoming heat signals from the beams were picked up immediately. Nickle smiled, kicking the thrusters to maxiumum and manuevering the Void towards the outskirts of the first impact.

So she was going to play it that way was she? Oh well she had the firepower, if anything Nickle was glad she was using it. However, in this game, there was only one victor and it was going to be him. The warning alarms began to go off inside his cockpit as incoming asteroid fragments began to approach him. Nickle began to move around them, jetting where-ever he could find the space. Even if they were still far off from each other, the distance could be closed easily.

Nickle was sure Ayane had picked up his heat signature by now, but it wasn't really an issue at this point. She may have decided to destroy his cover, but he could still surprise her. He had her in his sights now, a small figure off in the distance. As the Freedom began to fire again, Nickle placed himself near the edges of where he asssume the beams would strike.

If sound could be heard in space, the explosions that was created would probably have caused him to go deaf for a while. As the astroids were blown apart and out of the belt, Nickle pulled the joysticks packs, positioning the Void to move upwards. His alarms were going crazy, with multiple pieces of debris incoming. With a smile, Nickle was set to move.

He kicked off the asteroid he was on, moving with those asteroids that had been blown outwards to avoid damage. All he needed to do was outrun them as opposed to moving forward and dodging them. "Diverting auxillary power to thrusters for 5.9 seconds. Throttles are primed. Void, charge and knock her out of the stars!"

Breaking free of the cluster of asteroids that had been blown out, the Void made a straight path towards the Freedom. The unit was in plain sight now. It was time to see how Ayane reacted.

As about the third set of targets was effortlessly blown apart by her weapons, the sensor array finally picked up a signature. Its distance surprised her a bit; he'd managed to actually get pretty darned close without being detected. However, he wasn't in any sort of dangerous range, and her sensors weren't reading anything but the asteroid debris in terms of projectile interference. He was just...getting closer.

"Heh... trying to bring it to close range? Idiot." Still in HiMAT mode, she redirected all her barrels at the incoming mobile suit, locking completely onto him. The main monitor adjusted magnification to more clearly show her target as she did so. "...hmm? I've never seen that suit before... hm. Well, in any case, you're going down!"

Her plasma cannons, railguns and beam rifle all let loose at once, all converging on the incoming Void Gundam. She wouldn't allow him to get close enough to actually hit her physically. Attacking Freedom from head-on? Nickle sure was a lot dumber than he had seemed...

Or maybe he had a plan just crazy enough that is was going to work. Nickle smiled as she fired at him, knowing full well none of those beams were going to hit. The Void's eyes flashed green, before the foru Caballero shields launched. They moved in front of the four beams that had been fired at Nickle, halting their course and blocking them deftly.

The White Devil

The Void sped past them and as it did they followed behind. Nickle hailed to Ayane of the comm. link, "Do you know what 'Segador' means Ayane?" The beam saw-blades then activated on the Caballeros and launched towards Ayane, while the beam rifle aimed at her and fired off 4 shots, aiming to take out Ayane's two railguns. "Because here they come!"

Nickle was closing fast, extraordinarly fast. However, once he got close enough, he'd let the systems that were diverting power to his thrusters return to normal and commence combat.

====================================================================

Meanwhile outside of the game Gundam simulation, Chio and Aya had began to activate the large plasma screens hanging up inside the arcade. Using her v-piece, Aya began to make an announcement while Chio finished up with the plasma screen feeds. "Attention everyone! Attention everyone! We have a very special treat for you, compliments of the aracde owner! This is a sneak peek at some of the cutting edge virtual reality pods that are soon to become available to you!"

The game flashed an image of the Freedom on the main screen, before splitting to also show Ayane inside. A few of the patrons began to speak, saying that they had seen the girl before, while others said it was impossible for anyone to actually enter into a game. However, when the Void and Nickle appeared on a seperate screen in a similar fashion, then did people begin to scream and shout in shock.

"That's right! Thank to the creative minds at Engage Incorparated, Mr. Ryuko is proud to present this sneak peek of what will be the most cutting Edge gaming experience of the Abenobashi Arcade! Send yourself into the game and encounter a world of gaming like never before!"

The customers cheered, moving away from their games and coming to stare at the screens as the match continued.

There was movement behind the enemy Gundam as something detached and moved in the way. Then glowed brightly, changing Ayane's confident expression to a mixture of shock and rage. She knew what was next, and so it was... the DRAGOONs emitted a beam shield which completely deflected all five blasts. She gritted her teeth to admonish herself for having such confidence over the abilities of a completely unknown mobile suit. She'd do something more physical, but releasing hold of the controls would be the end of everything.

Right now, she needed concentration, calm, and tactics. Her eyes tracked him as the shields vanished and he continued onward, the DRAGOONs following closely behind. "Do you know what 'Segador' means, Ayane?" came Nickle's voice over the communications channel. Not wanting to be distracted... she clicked the comm switch off. There was only one thing she might need the communications for, and it didn't require voice. There was no need to be distracted by his blabbering commentary.

Back to the here and now. Back to the crisis.

The DRAGOONs zigged and zagged towards her, though they appeared to be getting close instead of staying back and firing. Close range attacks? But the Gundam itself was also heading towards her, lancing out with its beam rifle. The rifle was simple enough to deal with at this range... but the DRAGOONs were what really worried her. She couldn't just shoot them down, lest they block the shot. She could risk attacking them with her beam sabers, but there was the chance they'd be able to block that too, and then she'd really be screwed.

So what was left?

She didn't like the idea she came up with at all. It wasn't foolproof. It wasn't even safe. It required risk, risk based on assuming how the DRAGOONs and Nickle would react. If it didn't work... this could very well end very quickly. But against deadly remote weapons you couldn't shoot down... it seemed like the only way.

Tactics

Ayane slammed her feet into the pedals, propelling the Freedom at full thrust upwards, away from the Segadors, the Void's beam rifle shots, and the Void itself. Then she locked onto the four DRAGOONs with her plasma cannons and railguns, firing all four simultaneously.

The next few seconds would likely determine this whole battle. Her finger quivered over the controls for melee combat mode as she saw Nickle close in on her...

It was like this. Her attacks on the DRAGOONs would make them raise their shields, unless they wanted to be destroyed. With their shields up, she would at least keep them at bay, and prevent them from deflecting damage away from Nickle. Meanwhile she'd feign paying strict attention to that, letting Nickle get in close, then nail him with a beam saber. If close range combat was what he wanted, then fine! Besides, those damned DRAGOONs meant long-range combat was no longer an option.

This was gonna end real quick. She just wasn't sure how.

Nickle whistled in his cockpit, laughing a bit as he charged Ayane. She must either be really trying to concentrate, or she was really pissed off at him for using the Void. Ah well, with her having severed her connection, he'd have to find out after the match. Nickle continued his charge, keeping the Caballeros ahead of him with the Segador still activated.

Ayane had dodged his beam rifle shots, but that was to be expected. As she pulled back, Nickle smirked and knew already that she was lining up for another shot. It was a smart move to do, considering he was making it no secret that he was aiming to beat her using close range combat. That and the Freedom's most powerful weapons were built for long range.

As she fired, the Void and the DRAGOONs scattered. The Void proceded to charge towards the Freedom, with one Segador accompanying it. The other the other three had moved to the left, right and top of the Freedom. There was no escaping from this. The Freedom couldn't run forever and sooner or later it was going to be trapped.

Ayane would have stood a much better chance if she had been using the Justice or even the Destiny in this situation. The Void had been designed to counter crowd-control mobile suits. The Justice was a dueling type mobile suit, much better at close range than the Freedom in Nickle's opinion. Not to mention the beam boomerrangs would have been useful, acting as a highly watered down version of the Segadors.

Having dodged the attack, Nickle fired off another 3 shots from his beam rifle, before lowering it and drawing the Void's beam sabres. "Stop running and fight." said Nickle, not over the comm. link though, seeing as it was still shut off. As Nickle drew in dangerously close to the Ayane, one thing that would at least be interesting to see, is that although he had drawn his beam sabres, they weren't activated.

And then, her chances of winning this duel vaporized before her eyes, as one of the outcomes she had anticipated--not one she'd hoped for--came to reality. Rather than taking the hits, the DRAGOONs merely scattered to dodge and continued their interception. Since she hadn't attacked the Void itself, it closing in wasn't what bothered her.

What bothered her was that now she still had to deal with five opponents, not one.

Suddenly, her picking Freedom felt like a very bad idea. It was her favorite Gundam from what little CE she had seen, but right now, Strike Freedom was seeming like it would've been a much better choice. At least that way she could keep Nickle's DRAGOONs at bay with her own, and then some.

Too late now. The Freedom was all she had, so she had better make the best of it. She glanced to the communications panel. Now? she wondered as Void drew dangerously close. Her contingency plan. She had it available just in case... but to use it this early in the fight? No... not yet. Not while she still had a chance. Not while she hadn't been touched!

Rather than changing her course to dodge Nickle's three new beam shots, she just pivoted the left arm to bring the shield into place, blocking them harmlessly. No need to waste power changing her momentum. Just keep flying upward! Sure, he was faster right now... but she didn't have to outrun him. She wasn't trying to outrun him. He was trying to attack her.

So therefore, she knew where he was going to be in a few seconds.

"...okay, let's see how you do about this..." she said under her breath, fingering the weapon controls. Deactivating HiMAT mode, the Xiphias railguns retracted back into place on each side of the Freedom's hips, and the wings returned to their standby position. Then, with a quick push of the controls, she halted Freedom's ascent and instead blasted forward, straight at the Void! Tossing aside her beam rifle--which against this opponent was proving useless anyway--she grabbed her beam sabers and ignited both, crossing them one over the other ahead of her. This position would allow her to defend in case he attacked as well, and if not, would also allow her to strike back!

That wasn't her focus, though. Once she was into melee range... she clicked a different trigger. The one for the Balaena plasma cannons. The cannons complied, flipping forward from within the wings to once more take their spot over her shoulders, letting loose a quick blast into her opponent.

The DRAGOONs left her no direction to escape. She couldn't take them out, either; they'd either scatter or deflect whatever attack she was capable of producing.

But if you go at full speed right at the enemy mobile suit and take him out... that wouldn't matter. DRAGOONs don't have a mind of their own. Without their host MS... they were just worthless hunks of metal.

She didn't know what Nickle was planning, here. She couldn't read his mind. But she'd be damned if she'd just give up because all the odds were firmly against her. Not while she still had ideas to try. Not while there was still a glimmer of hope in this void of space.

For just a moment, the moment when the Void filled her viewscreens... she wondered what would happen if she died in this game.

Finally, she was attacking him. Nickle was getting rather tired of the running away all the time. However this was going to work out perfectly. His thumbs hovered gingerly over the firing button on the joysticks, but he knwe he couldn't be hasty with this. Once he was in range, there would be nothing that Ayane could do about it and he'd have her.

As Ayane activated her own beam sabres and charged, Nickle continued to leave his unactivated. No need to rush things, he had plenty of time. The three DRAGOONs he'd sent out were closing in on Ayane along with the Void and the fourth DRAGOON that was acting like a somewhat escort to the MS. Nickle's hands ran over the controls for the remote weaponry, moving the fourth DRAGOON to follow behind the Void, keeping it out of sight.

Nickle gritted his teeth as he saw the plasma cannons activate. Dangerously close and with minmal time to move, Nickle redirection the positioning of the thrusters of the Void to dodge. He couldn't move back or to the sides and he couldn't use any of the Caballeros to block, because then his own plan would be ruined.

Improvising, he kept charging towards the Freedom, only now Nickle aimed the controls to boost right undernearth it. As he jetted under and past his target, being robbed of the close range battle he wanted, the DRAGOONs struck. The two approaching from the left and the right aimed themselves for different parts of the Balaena plasma cannons, targetting them and attempting to each cut through them without crashing into each other.

The Segador that had been approaching from the top, now shifted it's position to a 45 degree angle and aimed to slice the Freedom's head diagonally split seconds after the first 2 segadors attacked. Finally, the fourth Segador that had been following behind the Void aimed an attack directly as the Freedon's cockpit.

Meanwhile, "Resourceful with perfect timing, she almost had him!" The fans were going crazy outside, many already being taken in by Ayane's tactics for using long range weaponry at such a close range, while other stood and gawk at the Void's onslaught, many having already spotted its ASBS and wanting to see it in action.

Saito was half-way through another round of Time Crisis when an excited-sounding girl started talking over the arcade's announcement system. "Attention everyone! Attention everyone! We have a very special treat for you, compliments of the aracde owner! This is a sneak peek at some of the cutting edge virtual reality pods that are soon to become available to you!"

Virtual reality, huh? Awesome! Intrigued, Saito looked over at the wall-mounted plasma screens out of the corner of his eye. What he saw on the screen caused him to drop the game's plastic pistol back into it's holster and stare. There was a large Freedom Gundam on one screen and an odd Gundam Saito had never seen before on the other. That wasn't important though. The shocking thing was the pilots shown next to the mobile suits, inside the cockpits. Inside the mobile suits were Ayane and Nickle, both in pilot suits and gripping the controls tightly. "AYANE!? NICKLE!?" Suddenly Time Crisis wasn't so important. He instead walked over to the bank of TVs and started watching the battle intently.

The battle wasn't going so well for the Freedom by the looks of things, and despite himself, Saito found himself hoping that Ayane would win. After all, a defeat and a defeat in front of a large crowd of people were two different things.

It worked. She knew he wouldn't just let himself get hit by the Balaenas; not when he had only just started this fight, and not while he had a remote weapon right behind him that wouldn't care about the blast since it had its own barrier. That was exactly what she was aiming for, despite not wanting to. It meant he was much better than she first thought, and that it was time to bring out every weapon she had at her disposal. It was time to stop messing around, stop testing him. This was likely the last time during this battle she'd be able to survive while not giving it everything she had. If she didn't up the ante now, she really would get defeated.

So, diverting energy away from weapons--except her beam sabers--and folding away the plasma cannons, she merely stayed her course, now at full throttle! Only a slight adjustment downward was required to dodge the DRAGOON headed for her head, while the movement of her wings and the burst of acceleration let her avoid the two going for her plasma cannons. The one headed on a suicide course, though... that one was why she kept her beam sabers active. She slashed down and across at it; she wasn't sure if that would actually manage to cut through it or if it would merely resist her sabers with its own beam field... but if it did the latter, then the force of her strike would knock it away anyway. She just needed it to not hit her torso; and there was a lot of space between the torso and the wings. At this speed, knocking it behind her would work.

She also blew past Void, which had, as anticipated, ducked underward in an attempt to get her from every angle. Leaving a DRAGOON to cover the direction she already had momentum for was foolish, though... it meant that for now, she was still alive, still fully functional. And while she was, she pressed the switch on her communications panel, then activated her wide-area search sensors and changed course towards the outer edge of the nearby asteroid field.

It should be here... she thought... and then saw it. Now that her encoded message had been received, it had activated, and now showed up on sensors. In the distance, a small white silhouette could be made out amongst the rocky asteroids and blackness of space. A blue trail of fire erupted behind it as it moved towards her mobile suit.

METEOR.

She wouldn't be able to outrun Nickle for that long. However, she had the advantage of momentum, which at least granted her a few seconds' head start. He would have to stop and change direction, or make an arcing turn to catch up. Just enough time. She carefully pulled back on the left control stick, pirouetting 180 degrees and then cutting thrust. She needed to keep her momentum going, but had to face the other direction for docking. So still at her previous speed, but now heading backwards, Freedom flew towards METEOR, which split open down the middle to accept it. Ayane put her beam sabers back into their storage racks...

Come on...!

METEOR rushed up to meet Freedom, the Freedom's wings folding upward to dock with the mobile support unit. A few loud thuds were all it took; docking was simple. Freedom's hands reached out and grasped the controls on each forward nacelle of METEOR, and her cockpit readout changed to reflect her new loadout.

He couldn't be far now... but Freedom was still performing system checks with the docking sequence.

Hurry up...!

For a few more moments, she would hang there in space, latched onto a massive weapons platform rocketing back towards where she had just escaped from. And for those few more moments... it wasn't going to do her any good.

As Ayane's sabres clashed with the final Segador, the beams from her sabres and the beams of the circular saw clashed and deflected the Segador away. The beam coating had protected it, so at least Nickle still had all four of them in tact.

He watched as each DRAGOON was either deflected or dodged. Smirked, he turned the Void in a 180 degree angle and began to pursue the Freedom, as he passed his DRAGOONs, the formed on him and became re-attached onto the Void's back. Nickle sensors were indicating that Ayane had increased her acceleration signifigantly and was heading towards the asteroid field.

"Hmm. She could have had me...my back was exposed, but why would she-?" Nickle's eyes widened and he began flipping switches and hitting buttons before pressing the foot-pedals flat. "All power diverted to thrusters. Power re-routing will automatically commence within 15 seconds." How could he have forgotten about that!? After all he had gone through this simulation a thousand times with each Gundam. Whenever the Freedom was selected, METEOR automatically was as well. Problem is it needed to be found. Nickle may still have time.

Like a black and white comet, the Void gave chase, but the Freedom already had a major headstart. Nickle had faced the Freedom with the METEOR attached before and needless to say now he was going to pushed to his maximum. But despite Nickle having managed to catch up significantly, he was still too late. Ayane had found it and had commenced the docking sequence. Nothing fore it now. The beam rifle wouldn't be able to get off enough shots. Well if she was pulling out her trump cards, then so would Nickle.

He was close enough and the power was already re-routing to the weapon systems. Punching both his arms forwards, while still holding the beam sabres. The beam spray guns stored in the Void's forearms popped up. Two cylinder shaped guns with six barrels. Could there be anything more beautiful? Nickle hit the trigger button and unleashed a green rain on the Freedom. Once it gained control of those missiles, things were going to be a lot more difficult.

Come on...! Ayane pleaded mentally, futily urging the onboard computer to finish its checks more quickly. She wasn't a Coordinator, nor did she know how to enable such skills in this VR game. Were they even available? In any event, she couldn't just reprogram the systems on-the-fly, so she was forced to wait.

Meanwhile, the sensors already had Void on an intercept course, closing fast. Its DRAGOONs deactivated and docked with its backpack, and just as it got too close for comfort...!

MOVE!

SYSTEM CHECK OK
METEOR ONLINE

Ayane's eyes flew open wide as her controls returned to normal. She had very little time to react; the Void had thrust its arms forward, revealing beam gatlings which rained green energy down around her. Kicking the foot pedals, she moved the thrust vector panels up, causing the METEOR's nose to arc upwards.. and then punched to full thrust, blasting above the incoming shots. She couldn't dodge them all, not at this range; they rumbled against the underside of METEOR's hull, doing no significant damage but leaving black burn marks where the paint and armor layers had melted.

"No more Miss Nice-Ayane," she said under her breath, yanking back on her right control stick to flip the METEOR back around, cutting the throttles again. It was one of her favorite moves in any heavily-armed mecha; get going quickly away from someone, then flick around and shoot them with everything you've got while flying backwards. 'Course, it only worked in space.

And thankfully, that's just where they were. The Balaena and Xiphias cannons on Freedom itself unfolded, joining the two 120cm beam cannons on the nacelles, the 93.7cm beam cannons on the wingtips, and all 77 "Erinaceus" anti-ship missile launchers on the nacelles, wings and tail. She didn't need any special abilities for this... she wasn't aiming to maim, and she wasn't tracking multiple targets.

She had only one target.

And she was aiming to kill.

Suddenly, space was filled with hostile, deadly light as the METEOR belched forth its massive armory...

Nickle gritted his teeth. This was going to become significantly more difficult now. As Ayane began to move the Freedom around the Void, Nickle began to take preparations for evasive manuevers. He had only one chance and that was the asteroid belt. Considering the Freedom had found the METEOR here, really it was the only chance he had.

However he needed to get there first. As the onslught approched, the Caballeros launched. They went to block off 4 of the 6 varied types of beam cannon shots while the Void continued to escape towards the asteroids. As the two beams that had not been blocked rocketed towards Nickle, he swivilled the joysticks and began pressing the footpedals symultaniously. What Ayane and all the spectators would see however, was the Void did a backflip over the Xiphias shots. While temporarily facing forwards, it sent out a volley from its spray guns towards the missiles.

It wouldn't destroy them all, but with any luck it would cause a a few to explode due to the one exploding next to it. But that was too much to hope for. As the backflip ended and the Void faced its original direction, it boosted towards the asteroid field, the DRAGOONs now following after it, having successfully done their prior job.

The Void ignited its beams sabres at last and the Segadors became active again as well. As Nickle entered the asteroid field, he began slashing at astroids he began to pass., creating more debris and a larger natural shield for himself. The Segadors performed a similar manuever, only working together to cut up large asteroids or acting alone and slicing through debris that was small enough to split in half.

Nickle felt sweat starting to drip down his brow. He smiled slightly in the middle of the hair raising situation of having to navigate the asteroid belt at top speed. This game really did have everything.

Weapon systems cooling down, and red lights flashing where the missile launchers had been emptied, Ayane was left breathing a little heavier than earlier. From what she could tell, that hellstorm hadn't taken Nickle out. Then again... he did own this arcade. He might have even created the Gundam he was piloting on his own. It couldn't end here. And judging by the heat reactions within the asteroid field, he had escaped into the safety of their proximity. And sure enough, if she tried to fire at him, she'd likely only hit asteroids. If she tried to proceed in, he'd be able to fly circles around her, literally. It wasn't a good situation.

But despite being low on missiles... her beam weaponry was still working properly. Why not just use the same tactic she had at the beginning of the battle? It worked then, so why not now? She'd smoke him out! Setting the aim for spread instead of focus, she locked onto random parts of the asteroid field and just let fly with all eight beam weapons. Recharge, cool down, fire again. Sure, she couldn't take out an entire asteroid field... but the more he delayed in there, the more time she'd have to try.

And her reactor had all the time in the world.
