Hyakuji 2.0 Template Character Name: Riza Kayui Gender: Female Age: 17 Height: 5’5 or 165 cm Weight: 135 or 61 kg Description or Image of Character Appearance: ![]() Occupation: Student Grade Level: 3rd Year/ Junior Powers/ Abilities:
Equipment You Have:
Residency Request: Yuki Schedule: -Homeroom: Hiro -1st: Supernatural Studies -2nd: Martial Arts -LUNCH -3rd: History Personality Description: She’s generally quiet but not quite anti-social, preferring to sit and listen rather than mouth off whatever happens to pop into her head every five seconds. As a rule, earning her friendship is relatively easy. However, once you betray or turn your back on her, she’ll remember it, and though she doesn’t like to hold grudges as they make her head hurt, she most certainly can. She also doesn’t have much patience for whining, bitching, grumbling, mealy-mouthing, or just plain old complaining in general, usually avoiding or ignoring those whom she notices have a streak or habit of it. When a dangerous situation arises, she tends not to act with either panic or enthusiasm, preferring to keep a “golden mean” of patience mixed with careful attention to detail, though she knows when to “get the hell out of there” when the time comes. While she doesn’t have much of a working knowledge of supernatural phenomenon in general, her intuitive abilities aid her in subconsciously understanding the fundamentals of it, and how to counter it in various ways, despite not knowing that much about the subject as a whole. To be clear, this young woman is smart, but not the haughty and boastful kind of smart that some take it upon themselves to try and put others down with. No, she only uses her intelligence to be of some form of help, and is always most fulfilled when she can create or modify something that makes someone else’s day just a little bit better. She isn’t very exuberant about it, though. At least not on the outside, where her usual demeanor is fairly relaxed and laid-back., almost lazy-acting at times. Give her a project however, and she’ll go right to work, taking it apart and doing whatever needs to be done, loving the process but always hating whenever she’s finally done, despite the sense of accomplishment she gets. For her, it’s always about the next item to modify, the next thing to take apart and rebuild even better, leading to her possessing a bag in which she holds all kinds of technological “scraps” for her building, usually tinkering with small meaningless trinkets when she doesn’t feel like working on a full-fledged project. She finds normal schoolwork to generally be a chore, and while more than intelligent enough to do well, she hardly sees the purpose in the rudimentary drilling of things like mathematical formulas, many of which she can do intuitively thanks to her abilities. This can sometimes lead to her getting so bored as to miss a question or two on purpose, just to make things “interesting”. Again however, her overall intelligence is very high, but not beyond the realm of possibility for one her age; her talents lending her the majority of the smarts she uses to build her creations. As a note, each thing she creates or modifies is important to her, and she can recall the functions every single object she’s ever dealt with since her powers emerged, the memories seeming to be stored somewhere in her subconscious. In spite of all the knowledge she does possess, Riza absolutely hates getting into arguments over things, and will only do so if she is completely certain she can win it. Like she always says, “Silence is one of the hardest arguments to refute.” She’s really not out to prove to anyone what she knows, she simply knows what she knows and if someone wants to listen then she’ll tell them. If she’s got the wrong facts then it’ll take a bit of convincing to show her another way, but this young woman is more than flexible and secure enough to handle being wrong sometimes, though she tries to avoid conflicts in which he’s not that certain she’ll be the victor, at least verbal ones. As for physical combat…please, don’t insult her. Riza’s no brawler, and has no interest in getting herself caught up in that sort of thing. She usually doesn’t even use her more…potent devices herself, handing them off in most cases to someone else and wishing them good luck. Simply put, she’ll make you a lazer-gun that shoots in five directions if you really want one, just don’t expect her to run around with it herself. As far as how she feels about her devices being used in the possible deaths or general harm of others, Riza does her best to never attach herself to the use of one of her devices. Should something dangerous of hers fall into the wrong hands, the results could be detrimental, but she won’t go around moping about it, blaming herself, or falling into a depression. Instead, she’ll simply recall the device from memory and create a countermeasure of some kind, hoping to stop it from being used the next time. In summary, she’s smart but not an asshole about it, inventive but not too “perky” about it, and generally dislikes getting her hands dirty. Oh, and don’t touch her All-in-One. Bad idea. Personal History: Born to her proud parents Koji and Martha Kayui on September 12th, Riza was born the first and only child into the Kayui family. Her father was 100% Japanese, while her mother was your stereotypically blonde haired and blue eyed American, from which Riza managed to get all her looks, and thankfully none of her brains. Not that her mother was an airhead mind you; working as an airline pilot wasn’t exactly a walk in the park, but her father was one of the best civil engineers in their home residence of Washington D.C., and if Riza had to choose, she’d always say her father was the brains of the operation. This isn’t to say that Riza didn’t learn much from her mother; on the contrary, it was her mother that was perhaps the very spark of her powers, as it wasn’t until her mother explained to her 8 year old daughter the reason why airplanes when up and didn’t fall down that Riza’s mind seemed to unlock, immediately grasping the concept of lift, even though she couldn’t put it into words herself at the time. There were several more occurrences like this, though Riza was a fairly quiet child, and this combined with what little time her parents actually saw her led to them not noticing the inherent intelligence of their daughter for several more months. Growing up for Riza was never truly a struggle, not with two loving though often absent parents, who despite being gone much of the time managed to impart a number of pleasant memories with their child when they were at home, always making the most of their time spent together. Their absence never caused her to develop any issues however, but rather she simply stayed home and studied her father’s manuals when she didn’t have any schoolwork to do, finding that she could somehow understand nearly all of what she read despite being only around 8 or 9 when she began to do so. Her father was the first to notice this odd occurrence, and shortly after she turned 11 years of age her father had her sent on a plane to Japan for the very first time to a special aptitude testing facility owned by a Japanese company called Intui-Smart. The company specialized in early to middle childhood mental development, and after a number of tests determined that the Kayui family’s daughter was capable of a number of higher math and engineering skills than ever thought possible for someone her age, calling her something of a technological prodigy. It was during these same tests that Riza realized for the first time that there was something special about her, something that made her stand out from many other children her age. Throughout her middle-school and early high-school career, Riza was picked on like every other nerdy kid, though her now monthly visits to Japan always reinforced how special she was, and that her talents were nothing to hide or be ashamed of. Yes, those visits were monthly. Thankfully, Intui-Smart was so intrigued by Riza that they footed the airline bill every time, with Riza’s mother even flying her once or twice at less than half (or sometimes none) of the usual fares. The constant teasing did cause her to hold herself back a bit regardless, never doing better than mostly Bs and the occasional A, trying her best to fit in. Her freshman year of high-school however, she began to change, finding her reservations about doing well in school to be fading quickly. She eventually soared above her peers by the second year of high school, and it was the summer afterwards that her parents decided it was time she attend a school more worthy of her talents. Hyakuji High was such a school, and its location wasn’t more than a twenty minute drive away from Intui-Smart’s facilities, so they’d be able to keep occasional tabs on Riza’s progress. In addition, the company was willing to pay Riza’s way so long as she maintained the high-school equivalent of a 3.5 average, something the young blonde knew she could do without much trouble. And thus she was off, hoping that the people here wouldn’t be as moronic and ignorant as most of the people she’d met her age. RP Sample: Another day, another plane ride. By now, Riza was perhaps more comfortable in a plane 35,000 feet in the air than she ever was walking around on the firm earth below, having been flying by herself for what seemed like her entire life, never even knowing why or where until after her first arrival at Intui-Smart. Sure, it was always the same old half-assed refreshments, and sure, she got the occasional passenger next to her who had failed to shower or brush their teeth before trying to chit-chat with her, but at least it was mostly quiet, a place where she could think and ponder about things…like all the ways she could make this plane could travel just a little bit faster. Oh, if she could get her hands on those turbines, that’d be a fun way to spend her week. Fun for her at least, and probably fun for the people at Intui-Smart, who had basically been paying for these plane rides every month for the last several years, loving to study her intuitive invention and modification skills. She had to admit, the people in that company were nice enough, and without them she probably never would’ve developed her abilities to their current extent, but something about those people always made her uneasy, like they’d snatch her away and keep her locked up the moment they found out something that made her too valuable. Meh, she was probably just being paranoid, but still, a bunch of white-washed chitter-chattering nerds who saw the sun for less than an hour a day would probably make anyone uneasy. Dark cerulean eyes blinked for a moment however, as she recalled one very important fact. She was a nerd too. Meh, how she hated that word. Nerd. It was such a stupid word, and if Riza could ever go back in time (she was working on that, actually) and punch whoever came up with the term, she most certainly would. For now however, she’d just have to put up with it for a little while longer, as the kids at Hyakuji weren’t likely to be as open as her parents and Intui-Smart thought. No, if her guess was correct, the presence of special abilities only meant more extremes of the same. More bragging, more bullying, and more testosterone and estrogen than Riza cared to deal with. Ah well, she’d learned how to cope now, and knew exactly how to handle herself around anyone too idiotic for her tastes. Ignore them if possible, tell them to bug off if that didn’t work, or secretly implant a concussive force generator in their shoes that would automatically knock them flat on their ass whenever they came within 30 feet of her. Yeah, she was a nerd, so what? Mashed Potatoes? Last time I checked, there is no spoon. |
