Appearance
When it comes to her appearance, Yukari's eyes seems to be what people often focus on the first time she greets them. With a permanent glare for an expression, her sharp blue stares down nearly everyone and everything she comes across. Of course, she can't really help it, given it's her natural expression, so first encounters is something she's always had an issue with. Not only that, but with her general color scheme, this bright hue stands out even more, her long auburn hair clashing with the blue, causing the brighter color to stand out more. Her hairstyle is usually set up with a pair of small pigtails, leaving the rest of her red hair flowing down and along her back, the length of these locks reaching her waist. These pigtails are usually secured with a pink and cheap accessory, having grown fond of the simple and clean design of them.
As for her body, Yukari is what you would call average around her age. Her height peaked with an above-average size and her weight is balanced around this with her slim physique.. of course, barring a few exceptions. Her hips are well-toned and stand out along with her large breasts, the size of her chest being above-average as they stand out on her otherwise thin frame. As for clothing, she usually sticks to wearing a set of darker colors. Her "trademark" outfit usually consists of a black blazer with a white undershirt, a blue ribbon tied up around her neck along with a white miniskirt. Below that is a pair of black thigh-highs, leaving just a slight gap of skin between the skirt and socks, as her style ends with a plain pair of black shoes on her feet. Another thing to note is the red armband with a golden crest on her left arm, worn purely for the sake of fashion. |
 Powers
Yukari possesses ownership of a world called God's Gift, a pocket dimension granted to her after she unwillingly made a contract during her youth. In short, this world was created for a king long ago and has since been passed from person to person though a ceremony that involves creating and giving the new user a golden apple. With a single bite, the powers transfer to the individual and grants them complete ownership of this odd realm. This world was created for convenience and protection, as the King sought of a way to guard himself in case his enemies drew closer. It's technically possible to live inside this world if you desire to, as it can both store and cater to one's needs.
The word "dimension" may cause it to sound as if the size of this place is vast and endless. In reality, the size is nothing short but a large room, as nothing exists outside it bar a colorful void. The actual appearance of the room itself changes though depending on the person's mood, an subconsciously changing realm that adapts to it's host. For instance, if Yukari feels weary and needs to rest, a large section of the room will turn soft, akin to a bed. If Yukari is in a bad mood, the walls and the void in the room turns black and grey and the sound of rain will echo throughout the hall. Of course, this is all for visual effects. She can not turn the room itself into a weapon, such as creating spikes from the floor or remove the surface completely.
To access this world, Yukari has to draw either her finger or her foot over a surface, causing a crack to open behind it. This crack takes a few short seconds to materialize, as it open up in the same manner as a zipper would, opening from the starting point of her draw. The maximum size of this crack is comparable to a simple door, meaning that nothing beyond the size of a large human male could pass in or out of this door. The way Yukari closes a crack manually is by snapping her fingers and focusing on the specific crack she desires to close, as it zips itself together. A few rules are applies for both opening and closing these cracks, as well as maintaining them and creating them.
#1: A crack can only be created on a solid surface, meaning that creating one of these cracks on something fragile is impossible. (example: curtains, water, glass) However, the crack inside God's Gift does not need to be set on a surface and it can be placed anywhere within in, meaning that she could open a crack and plop right down into a soft surface or another crack which opens up right next to a couple of items she decided to store. It all depends on where the user wants it. The maximum number of cracks Yukari can maintain at the same time is 5.
#2: Yukari needs to maintain these cracks by remembering and focusing on them. This is a very odd rule but it all plays in on where the crack itself is created. For instance, a crack created in the downtown area will close quickly if Yukari doesn't focus her mind on it. However, maintaining a crack in one of her "comfort zones" works differently, meaning that an opening she created in her bedroom will stay there, even if Yukari doesn't actively focus on it. This is because she remembers it and doesn't have to worry about anyone finding it and exploiting it. You can compare this mindset to something like owning a valuable item in your apartment. You know it's there, so you won't have to worry about losing it. Because of this, Yukari keeps at least one crack open at all times, having placed it underneath her bed.
#3: Opening and closing cracks from the inside have their own set of rules. Yukari can close a crack behind her once she enters her domain and open it at the same spot she created it in the first place. This is to keep the user from locking themselves in. Even so, if the original area where Yukari entered has been damaged, she can always focus and create a new crack in one of her comfort zones. A comfort zone is determined by the user's own familiarity with the area. Because of this, it can either be her bedroom, house, or an area she fondly remembers, meaning that it is impossible for her to lock herself in, as long as Yukari can focus and remember an area where she could re-enter the human world. Simply put, it's a very important safety measure. One important thing related to this is how a fresh crack will automatically close if Yukari loses consciousness and only the ones created in a familiar area will remain. This is because, as stated before, they're created in her comfort zone. |
The other thing God's Gift grants the user is a very powerful and faithful servant. From the very moment Yukari formed a contract with this ability, a servant was born from her mind, creating a shape from her own preferences. This doesn't mean that Yukari and her servant share each other's thoughts. This is simply the creation process, in which God's Gift searches through her mind and creates an optimal appearance and personality for Yukari's servant. Although the servant is created from Yukari's mind, it is still it's own being, having her own thoughts, ideals and quirks.
Name: Mammon
Height: 165 centimeters
Weight: 55 kilograms
Voice Actor: Yamamoto Momiji
Theme Color: Plum Purple
Mammon is a well-built female with an appearance created from Yukari's mind. As such, she was granted the same gender and a similar body to Yukari with a few subtle differences. First off, she's a bit shorter than her mistress with a body built for combat, possessing an athletic build. She is by no means covered with muscles, but she is stronger than average and still packs quite a punch when it comes to fighting. Mammon's legs in particular are well-toned and made for both sprinting and kicking moves. Her hair is long and colored with a bright chocolate brown along with a pair of sharp red eyes. As for outfits, Mammon possesses two specific ones that she switches between, a modest maid attire and a bold servant's outfit, being able to change into either of them with a snap of her finger. Personality In many ways, Mammon serves as a complete opposite to Yukari when it comes to her personality. The servant is very playful and upbeat with a sort-of trickster personality when it comes to approaching those around her. In short, Mammon loves to play pranks on people, including Yukari. She does this in two ways, either by misspeaking and causing misunderstandings on purpose or tricking someone with an act and a few soft words. At times, even Yukari can find herself roped into this, as the whole situation can play out fairly smoothly. Although, if things go too far, she'll apologize, assuming the maid doesn't bear a grudge against her victim.
Mammon is actually very overprotective when it comes to Yukari, as her respect for her transcends the usual master-servant relationship. To put it bluntly, Mammon loves Yukari. Not as a master nor as family. It's the same kind of love one would expect between a couple. It's pure and genuine. And even if Yukari will never return these feelings to her, Mammon knows she has to protect her Master no matter what and support her in her own special way.
An important thing to note about Mammon is that she's not a puppet created for Yukari, but rather, a person with an actual personality, ideals, likes and dislikes. Although some of these are pulled from her Master's mind at birth, the process itself was a mixture between Yukari's traits and the knowledge from the former servants who lived inside God's gift. Mammon actually retains most of the knowledge from her predecessors. By combining her new traits with her knowledge, the servant's personality was born.
Aside from being very playful and overprotective, one could call Mammon an open-minded and somewhat greedy person. She thrives on new experiences and she's not one to share them, often gloating about certain things and keeping them to herself. One has to work hard to persuade Mammon to share whatever they desire from her, be it a bite from her meal or borrowing something like a jacket. Of course, Yukari is the only exception to this rule.
In terms of skills, Mammon is quite proficient at cooking. It was something she picked up when the role of maid was pushed onto her, so in order to please Yukari, she trained herself to be a proper chef. While she might not be the best, she's got some talent for it, being able to cook up a delicious meal for her Master once a day. Other skills include cleaning and a bit of swordplay, as Mammon practices her fighting techniques once a day, using the empty space inside God's Gift to fully push herself to the limit. |
Mammon's Abilities
Levitation Mammon possesses the natural ability to float, meaning that she can levitate and move around in the air without using any special means to do so. Rather than calling it an ability, we should use the word instinct for it, as she doesn't use any kind of special power or wings to flutter about. You can compare this instinct to something as simple as walking. Mammon knows how to do it because it feels natural, as she's able to float in all directions without gravity holding her back. As for speed and momentum, she moves at the same pace her walking and running would, meaning that the fastest Mammon can fly through the air is comparable to her maximum running speed.
Stinger
Stinger is the name of the blade Mammon wields in battle. From the back of her hand, a purple orb of energy forms and shoots out to a length of 80 centimeters in front of her, quickly hardening and turning into glowing sword tip with a design reminiscent of a traditional greatsword. The outwards appearance of this blade makes it look like something taken straight out of a science fiction novel, with it's purple and transparent shape along with the glow it produces. However, this is not the case, as the blade is actually very firm and sturdy, along with being extremely cold. One could compare it to a frozen lake during the winter with it's smooth and ice-cold surface. An important thing to note about Stinger is that it's not held and used as a tool by Mammon, but rather it's an extension of her right arm. It's attached to her hand and extends straight forward without bending or turning.
Stinger is also very sharp and durable, as one could easily compare the craftsmanship on it to something only the best could produce. It's light but strong. It's thin but it doesn't bend. It's sharp and it never grows dull. Even causing the blade to chip is a large feat, much less breaking it. Although it is possible, through brute force and relentless attacking to it's purple body. Stinger can be used to cut into most obstacles Mammon comes across, of course depending on how she cuts into it and how much strength she extorts. It's very easy to cut through something like a plant or a piece of cloth. Cutting through glass and rocks on the other hand require a lot more strength and technique. It's possible but a lot if needed for the user to succeed. Cutting into the flesh of another is fairly easy, as long as proper force and skill is used to slice and dice her foes up. Simply put, it's a powerful weapon that grows even stronger when it's utilized properly. If one manages to break Mammon's stinger, it grows unusable for a long period of time, as Mammon needs to rest before reforming it on top of her hand. |
Limitations Yukari and Mammon both possess a large number of limitations which they need to work around in order to utilize their full potential. First and foremost is Mammon as she eats and sleeps like any normal person, despite being a servant bound to Yukari with magic. In short, she's has the same needs as any other person with a human body and human needs. This also means that Mammon can not fight endlessly because her stamina works in the same way as it does for a human. Furthermore, while Mammon can walk off and do her chores or enjoy herself without Yukari, she has to keep distance in mind, as the maximum length granted between the two is around 12 kilometers. Once that distance is met, Mammon begins to feel a slow and burning pain through her body, sucking away her abilities and strength.
In other words, she starts to die. The only way to cure this is to let her vanish or have the distance between Yukari and Mammon restored. If not, Mammon dies within two or three hours. When Mammon dies, her body turns to stone and shatters on the spot, either from a fatal wound or from being cut off from Yukari's presence for two long. Although, while she is considered dead, her spirit returns to God's Gift and begins working on a new body for her. This process takes an entire day to complete. After her life is restored, her strength and abilities take another two days to restore, as the girl works to adapt into her new body. In this state, Mammon's displays such symptoms as fever with pain coursing through her limbs, causing her to stumble without much strength holding her up. One last thing to note is related to Mammon and the cracks Yukari can make. Simply put, Mammon can not close or create cracks on her own. Only Yukari can do it. |

 Personality
A first encounter with Yukari is often doomed from the start, as the girl's natural tone of voice sounds rather cold and indifferent. Match this with the glare on her face and one could easily consider her to be a very rude and distant person, simply because of her regular tone and expressions. However, this couldn't be more wrong, as Yukari is simply the type that restrains her emotions and expresses herself in a subtle and calm manner. Rather than cheering, she'll smile and nod. Rather than shouting in anger, she'll glare and raise her voice to a firm and powerful tone. Instead of taking her frustrations out on something or someone around her, she'll squeeze her thumb or bite into her lower lip. If she's sad, she'll keep to herself and only speak if she absolutely needs to, sometimes not speaking at all depending on the situation and her emotions.
This is how Yukari expresses herself. It's not that Yukari dislikes people around her or that she likes pushing others away. Her restrained and subtle behavior all comes from her harsh upbringing, as her father tried to use her for his own selfish ambitions. From the moment Yukari could walk and talk, her life was turned into that of a doll. Her father forced her into a life of lessons, scoldings and beatings, all to shape his daughter into what he considered to be a proper lady. Yukari was pushed into lessons about eating, walking, speaking and acting properly in front of a sophisticated crowd. If she disobeyed, the man would scold her and often beat her in order for her to go along with his orders. Yukari's father is someone she hates and fears, both for very valid reasons and this treatment and upbringing is something she hates. It was essentially forcing her to be someone else and she just wished she could be more honest with her emotions.. rather than retaining her restrained personality.
Although her childhood was a hated time in her life, most of these traits still stuck to Yukari. Although she may be restrained, she's actually making some form of effort to make herself stand out more, either with an odd quirk or pushing herself into something new. Pushing would be the literal term to it, as she often backs out before entering, throwing these "naive" thoughts to the side. Luckily, Mammon is there to push her forward, knowing her master desires it from just a simple and obsessed glance towards it. It's not that the servant can read minds, it's simply because she's the first person to know and accept her for who she is, being able to tell these quirks simply from Yukari's body language. The reason Yukari often stops herself from trying these things is because she fears rejection, another thing that burns deep from her childhood, as she didn't have any friends. Of course, this is another thing caused by her father.
As for skills and interests, Yukari has a strong passion for fiction in all forms. As a child, books, shows and generally anything that took her away from reality served as a means of escape from her "dollhouse" world. It was if she entered a different world entirely and she would always find some way to enjoy herself with these tales, even though her father disapproved of it. He wasn't always around and Yukari's mother would always let her do these things in secret. In later years, ever since the girl started at Hyakuji, she found herself introduced to other forms of media, such as music and television. Because of this, there's no real limit to what she likes and dislikes. This goes for other interests as well, which is why she keeps such an open mind to them. As for skills, Yukari is proficient at playing the piano and other keyboard related forms of music, having evolved it during the recent years into something she could enjoy for herself. The girl also knows basic housekeeping, having been trained to be a proper lady and a proper wife, so she's not that bad at cooking.
One odd quirk about Yukari is her speech pattern. Despite what her looks and her past would imply, the girl actually talks like any other girl in her age group. She doesn't make an effort to sound formal or speak in a fancy and proper manner. Instead, she sticks to what feels natural. There is one twist to this though and it's her frequent use of English in her sentences. Although she's a pure Japanese, born and raised in the country, she's fluent in both her native tongue and the English language. And because it sounds kind of cool, she tends to mix in the latter into phrases or statements in order to stand out. Examples of this can be:
"<Good! Very Good!>" "I've had enough of this. <Goodbye, See You Later.>" Her English is always written inside a pair angle brackets, separating it from the "translated japanese" the characters naturally speak in this setting. It's just an odd trait she picked up during her time in Hyakuji and decided to stick with, liking it for it's "dramatic" flare and how it stands out among her fellow students.. unless they're native English speakers, which embarrassingly happened at some points over the two years she's spent at this school.
The fear of her father and the fear of rejection are two deep wounds on her heart that will never close up. As soon as she feels these two cuts ache inside her, it's as if the knife never pulled out, twisting into her heart. Rejection is hard to handle. Yukari never had any friends while she grew up. Her father rejected those she met at school, scolding her about it and distancing them from his daughter. The children she was often forced to hang out with at her father's gatherings all tossed her aside like trash, not bothering spending time with her due to her family's status. Because of these experiences, Yukari grew a complex about approaching people around her as she constantly fears rejection. She doesn't have any issues when it comes to talking to people nor trusting them, such as speaking with a classmate in school or having someone initiate a conversation with her. In fact, someone starting a conversation with her is 100% safer than having Yukari approach them with something. |
 History
Kotobuki Yukari was born as the only child into a small family of three that housed themselves in suburbs of a minor city in Japan. The Kotobuki family had a decent income, both from her mother and her father working in their respective jobs, putting them as a middle-class household. While they made a fair bit of money, they weren't considered wealthy or high-class, especially when you compared the small group of three to much larger and wealthier families. Ever since Yukari was born, her father took it upon himself to raise the girl as an ideal proper lady. From the moment she could speak, walk and think, her life was put into what she likes to describe as "a dollhouse".
A life made for a doll. She woke up during the mornings and had her clothes prepared for her. She was forced to take extra classes after school and additional classes on how to speak right, sit right, behave right, everything her father thought would further her as a proper lady of the elite. His desire was selfish and while the man claimed to have the best intentions for his daughter in mind, it all seemed to wash off as his face twisted with greed. If Yukari could marry herself a wealthy young male, then all his hard work would pay off. He wouldn't have to live in his middle-class suburbia anymore.
All of it was for himself. All of her training was for his benefit. All of it was.. his strong and twisted greed.
Yukari hated her doll life. That's what it all felt like. This oppressive and dark feeling over his childhood was all because of one man using her as his favorite doll. He took her to activities she never wanted and forced her to be friends with people who clearly didn't want anything to do with her. She despised a life where she could never do what she wanted to. She never got to play with friends, her father dismissing them and punishing her for bringing someone home. She never got to quit the things she hated, even with the bad results her teachers would present from time to time.
She never got to be.. herself.
Although her grades were at the bottom of her class, both with her tutoring and her free-time sacrificed for this cause, her father found a very efficient way when it came to turning these numbers around.
Violence.
Without any care for his child, her father's hand would burn across Yukari's cheeks. With an objection squeaking out from her lips, another slap burned her other cheek. This process repeated itself until Yukari caved in. As a result, her grades went up. Needless to say, this was because of fear. Fear is what forced Yukari's unnatural growth and molded her during her childhood.
Fear is.. something she experienced a lot. Fear became her routine. Whenever her father pushed the girl into something new and Yukari rejected it, fear made her change her mind. Depending on how much she tried to fight back.. the more her father would push her. Scolding, slapping, hurting his child. All so that she could become the ideal person he desired. She was also threatened into keeping this "scolding" of his a secret. If anyone found out about how he treated, not only his child, but his wife as well, then all of his plans would go to waste.
And so.. the routine went on. Years passed and Yukari grew inside her dollhouse. Each time she disobeyed, each time she found herself hurt. And after a while.. she caved in, too hurt and scared to fight back.
The older Yukari got, the worse things became. Added onto the harsh tutoring were gatherings her father managed to push his family into. While her father and her mother were staying with the adults, discussing the children and keeping to themselves, Yukari was forced to hang out with the other kids brought along, all of them from a wealthy and high-class family. Since the Kotobuki family was essentially posing as a high-class family, she didn't feel like she belonged. This, coupled with rejection from the children around her age, caused another wound to open.
Although she tried to fit in, it all failed. Maybe these children found out about Yukari's family through their own parents and were told to stay away? The adults knew about her father acting like a fool to fit in, often calling him a fool and a monkey, imitating the things he wished to become in order to fit into a society where he doesn't belong. Upon returning home, failing to impress the elite with his family and his child, the father would often vent his frustrations with loud and violent anger.
And for Yukari.. it meant that her hell would just get worse.
- - - At the age of fourteen, Yukari decided to take action about her life. She hated this feeling. She never wanted to become a doll. She never wanted to take the lessons her father forced on her. She never wanted to meet all these rude and insensitive people. She just.. wanted to do something for herself once.
With a backpack filled with what could only be called "a child's survival kit", Yukari planned her escape. Normally, after school, the girl would always head towards one of her tutoring classes. But today.. she went into a different direction. She lacked funds for a bus ride, so she went by foot, following one of the minor roads in the city towards what she assumed was the exit. As the towering buildings transformed around her, shifting into minor houses and slowly transforming the area around her into a beautiful green forest, Yukari knew she was headed the right way.
The right way to nowhere. Yukari didn't know or care where she would go. She just wanted to go, somewhere, anywhere, just not home.
Yukari wandered for what seemed to be hours. Her legs were getting tired and her body was losing it's energy. She had already stopped at two points and gulped down whatever food she brought with, emptying her small supply in a single day. As the day turned to night, she found herself lost. And although she wanted to escape from her home with no direction in mind.. she actually regretted it now.
The girl could easily turn back, but with all the left and right turns she took, she couldn't possibly remember which way is the right way. As she rested up against a large tree, she watched how the last bit of light left the sky, clouding her position with a dark and dim light, the moon being kind enough to grant her a bit of it's glow during the night.
As Yukari gave up on trying to go back, she noticed another type of orb granting her a bit of light as well. Her head turned around and her eyes locked onto shining object hanging from one of the branches on the tree her back was resting on. A golden light. At first, her mind assumed it was some kind of light-post, the kinds you see in a park. But after shaking her head and rubbing her eyes with both her hands, she made out the shape and size of this object hanging from the tree.
A golden.. fruit.
Yukari rubbed her eyes once more as she pushed herself off the ground, her eyes locking onto the sparkling shape on the tree. It was a golden fruit, an apple to be precise. It had a firm and round shape and looked exactly like an apple with a golden skin and a sparkle which seemed to draw her attention more and more. Both hungry and curious, Yukari reached into her bag and began pulling out several of the items she brought along with her.
First a book flew through the air, followed by another, a box soaring after it and finally a shoe. Yukari had removed her shoe and used it as her final attack, hitting the apple and knocking it down to the ground. With a few skips, she grabbed both her shoe, sliding it back onto her foot, and the apple which rested on the ground in front of her. The redhead quickly wiped the fruit against her blazer and stared at it for a few moments, watching it sparkle and shine in her hand.
It looked like something from a completely different dimension, having escaped the clutches of another world and ended up growing in a place where no one could find it. Although it had the weight and the texture of a regular apple, it was completely shine and smooth, as if it was crafted from pure gold. Yukari could even see her reflection on the fruit's skin, gazing down at the source of light with a slight drool trail of drool sliding down her skin.
And then.. a bite. And everything went black.
- - - Another world. Another place. Another time. Life or death, My Master? - - - This is what this place felt like. Although everything had gone black, it felt.. soothing. The air was warm and the ground was made out of stone. As she turned around, trying to make out where she were, she saw nothing. It was completely dark. She couldn't even see her hands or legs at this point and it felt like each of her senses were being blocked off, one at a time.
It started with her sight.
The air around her got warmer, to the point where everything felt like a part of her. It effectively killed her sense of touch. It was there, but at the same time, she couldn't make it out. Her nose, trying to take a whiff of the scent in the area, couldn't pick up anything. Her mouth opened and her voice tried calling out for someone, anyone, anything, but nothing came out. The only voice she could hear was inside her head, her thoughts trying to call out for someone but ultimately failing. As she found herself getting increasingly confused, her foot would stomp down against the floor.. the surface she recalled standing on as she entered, but not a single sound came out.
Did she.. die? She couldn't have died. The last thing she remembered was biting into that apple.. and then..
"Life or Death, My Master?"
What did it ask? Life? Death? Was it asking her to choose?
"Life or Death, My Master?"
The voice called out to her again, as Yukari turned herself around and attempted to find the source of it. For some reason, it sounded like a machine, rather than a man or a woman.
"Life or Death, My Master?"
As it called out again.. she realized where the voice was coming from. Inside her head. It was more like a thought than an actual voice, repeating the same question over and over until Yukari would answer it. Desperate, nervous, filled with fear, she called out for the voice using all of her strength, attempting to shout in this void space where none of her senses existed.
"L-Life! Life! Stop asking me this! P-Please! Life!" "Thank you, My Master!"
The voice replied. A cheerful and female tone. With the snap of someone's fingers..
The darkness turned to light.
- - - Don't worry. I'll protect you. Welcome home. My Master. - - - With a loud and terrified yelp, Yukari shouted herself awake. Her body, pressing down on something soft, would roll her body over and onto the floor, as an alarm was going off right next to her bed—
Her bed? Did she walk home last night? Her hand pressed down on the clock as she pushed herself up from the floor. As her eyes adjusted to the morning light, she would find herself inside her very own room. Her clothes for the day were neatly set next to the door and her backpack was hanging on her closet door.
It felt... unreal.
Her body rushed over to the backpack, the same she used during her little adventure to the forest. Upon opening it, she found it to be empty, just a few wrappers.. from the things she had brought along to eat during her adventure last night. Her heart began to race. Fear began clouding her mind. Her body started shaking on the spot. As the girl turned around, she'd quickly bump into a figure in front of her. Yukari moved her arms up, immediately trying to protect her face, as the person in front of her gently called out to her.
"Good morning, My Master!"
- - - Enter Mammon. During the night before, Yukari had bit into the Golden Fruit and formed a contract with her without realizing it. By choosing life, she gave Mammon life, not saving her own. By eating the Golden Fruit, she became Mammon's Master and the owner of her own personal realm. It was all explained by Mammon. Of course, Yukari thought she was lying the whole time. After all.. magic? Personal realms? Servants? On top of that, her name was Mammon, something taken straight from the bible. It seemed too good to be true.
Although, Mammon easily proved her wrong. Both by displaying her abilities and showing Yukari how to use her own, the two of them formed a strong relationship. Mammon was the first person to acknowledge Yukari and not look down on her. Yukari was the person who brought Mammon back to life after years upon years in limbo. The history of her realm, Mammon's history and her new abilities were all explored during Yukari's free time.
This.. world.. really was Yukari's own realm. A place she could hide in from all her worries along with a friend who spoke to her and treated her like an actual human being. Although, it did take Yukari a long time to force Mammon to stop addressing her as Master, instead opting to call her Yukarin in a very affectionate and loving tone. During her time inside God's Gift, the two girls would chat away about everything. Mammon's history, this world, the human world and most importantly, Yukari.
A hint of anger brew in Mammon's expression though as Yukari explained her.. rather unfortunate situation. It only flashed up for a moment, but the face burned itself into Yukari's memory, causing the girl to wince from how.. scary it was. She thought nothing about it though, but she would soon find out how dangerous it was to ignore that spark of emotions.
- - - Yukari's strongest memory and the turning point to her life is also something she wished she could forget. It was a day like any other. After school, Yukari went to her tutor as usual, receiving extra lessons in the subjects she did rather poorly in. This wasn't anything unusual, as the girl never tried to make an effort into something she disliked. She had average grades at most, so her father forced her to a tutor so she could end up at the top of her class.
As the blue sky quickly transformed itself to a dark and cold winter night, Yukari hurried herself home with her books in her bag. While it wasn't snowing, it was still freezing cold, to the point where it hurt her skin if she exposed it to the cold air around her. In a hurry, she fumbled with her keys at the front door and quickly stepped inside. This was because her father was greeting her today and her mother was working overtime at her job.
Once inside the room, she removed her jacket and her shoes, setting them aside in a neat and proper display. As she turned her head to the side.. she noticed the lack of light in the room. On top of that, a strong smell penetrated her nostrils. It smelled kinda like.. meat. only.. stronger. It was an unpleasant scent which caused Yukari to wince, moving her right hand up to cover her nose with her sleeve.
"Father? Are you there..?"
No response. She took a few steps in, her left hand tracing along the wall as she stepped into the hallway. The stench in the room seemed to be getting worse and not even her sleeve would help with the smell. As she stepped into the family living room, her fingers slid up over the switch.. turning the lights on.. as the living room greeted her with something she had never expected to see.
"Welcome hoooome.. Yu-ka-ri~n!"
Mammon. Blood. Death. And a smile.
"I've been waiting.. I have a surprise for you!"
Yukari, having dropped back onto her butt, gazed up with terror at Mammon's expression. Her hand.. seemed to be in the air, holding onto something. A purple glow was covering her arm and the smile on her face was.. twisted with pleasure. Behind her seemed to be a pair of arms and legs.. hanging freely from Mammon's arm.
M-Ma.. Mammon..
She couldn't speak. What she wanted to slip out stayed inside her head, her lips moving as her sharp eyes locked onto Mammon's face, all while the servant moved.. slowly turning herself around as the figure hanging from her arm was made much more apparent. With a lifeless expression on his face, she could clearly tell who that body belonged to. And with a swipe upwards, the rest of his body cracked, the remains falling down on the floor as her beloved.. frightening.. deadly.. servant stepped forward, keeping the same grin on her face.
"And now.. neither of us have to worry about him. I refused to let this man lay another finger on my precious Yukarin. So I payed him back all the suffering he's caused my beloved master. I remember it.. you told me.. this man was tearing your heart in half, wasn't he? So I tore his heart in the same way, splitting it up, letting him suffer through the same feelings he pushed onto you.. isn't it great? Now you won't have to suffer anymore.. I won't let anyone hurt you.. Yukarin~"
Her tone of voice was.. cold but at the same time, a bit of pep was hiding behind it. Her way of speaking was like a paradox, if that word can even be associated with something as basic as a voice. She sounded extremely cold and angry, but at the same time.. it was almost as if she wanted Yukari to praise her for what she did. It was the way she phrased her sentence that gave her that impression. Mammon.. did this because she wanted revenge for all the bad feelings Yukari had gone through.
And as bizarre as it was.. she had to question herself on whether or not she should feel guilty about this. A horrible and gruesome scene like this.. was something she was feeling..
Happy about. Sad. At peace. Devastated. Free. Crushed.
A ton of positive and negative emotions poured into her body at the same time. Her eyes welled up and she couldn't even tell if she was crying out of joy or out of sadness. Did she regret this? Did Yukari regret bringing Mammon to this world? Or was she happy about it? Was this a positive thing, something to set her free from the dollhouse her father created? What about her mother? What would she feel? Maybe this isn't something she should be happy about. Maybe this will crush her mother too. Would she feel relieved about this too?
So many feelings, thoughts, guilt, joy, everything was spinning around inside her head. She couldn't see at this point, smell, speak or touch. The only thing she could remember before passing out was Mammon's gentle voice whispering into her ear, attempting to calm her with a soft and soothing tone.
- - - "Don't worry." "I'll protect you." "Welcome home." "My Master." - - - Yukari awoke in her bed later that night. Her mother had stepped into her room in a frenzy and woken her up by shaking her sleeping body, bringing her daughter back from her dreams. As her eyes opened up, they'd already begun to tear, staring towards her mother's shock-filled expression.
After this incident, the Kotobuki family cut off all ties with the high-class society her father was involved in. This incident was classified as a murder, although without any evidence to support that another person had entered the building. Yukari had an alibi and her mother had one as well, so the two of the were counted out from the list of suspects. But without much evidence to go on, the murder was filed as an unsolved mystery with suspicion leaning towards some of her father's shady contacts, presumably a way for him to push himself into the elite's crowd.
However.. after this.. Yukari confessed about Mammon.
Not about the murder, but rather about Mammon's existence. Yukari began explaining to her mother about how she met Mammon and what the servant actually is. She also displayed her cracks and the world inside them. After some careful explaining, Yukari and Mammon were both accepted by her mother as..
A Master and Servant.
Her mother also had the same feeling Yukari did at first regarding the mysterious girl. It all felt unreal, as if her daughter and some friend were playing a prank on her. But with a quick display of their abilities and her mother was easily convinced. Now it bottled down to something else. What would her mother do in this situation? Answering to her daughter's wishes, she canceled the extra classes and gave her a lot more freedom than her father allowed her. As for Mammon, she found a few sneaky ways to register her as a servant working for the family, using fake papers to certify her as someone from their household.
But regarding.. Yukari.. her husband.. and now this strange turn of events..
She didn't think she could handle it. Stress was building on her and taking care of her job, her child, her "magical servant" and keeping herself together after the loss of her husband.. it all seemed like it was piling on too hard on her. Her feelings about Yukari's father were very mixed. Displeased, but still in love with him. Although she saw the flaws and the oppressive behavior he displayed towards her only child.. she.. just couldn't argue with the man she promised to spend the rest of her life with.
Finally, she found a solution. It was something she felt was necessary, both for Yukari and for herself. She read about it in a few articles from time to time, a school where gifted children went learn about controlling their special abilities. It seemed like something Yukari should go to, even though this relationship with Mammon seemed just fine. It also gave her mother some time to mourn in peace, as her child despised the man she was trying to weep for, and the chance for Yukari to grow with new people around her.
At the age of Fifteen, Yukari and Mammon transferred to Hyakuji in the middle of the first semester. Although the shock about her father's death and Mammon's obsessive behavior lingered, she genuinely tried her best to fit in. Quickly, the rumor about a student with a personal maid spread through the school. It was actually something her mother had to arrange with the headmaster, as Mammon couldn't survive without the presence of Yukari.
After the arrangements had been made, Mammon and Yukari successfully moved into the the dorms, the two of them sharing a room together as a student and a maid. Mammon didn't technically go to Hyakuji for grades. Instead, she was labeled as a power and was brought along each day because she was a vital part of Yukari, both as a person and as an ability.
The years passed quickly in Hyakuji. Although she weren't making any friends at an alarming rate, she did find herself.. accepted. Slowly but surely, her shell started to break, as she would interact with some of her classmates as time went on. Of course, Mammon helped her through this. And although her feelings are still uncertain on Mammon's actions on the day her father died, she does feel a strong connection with the girl, relying on her a lot when it comes to her.. new life.
Just what was Yukari going to do about Mammon? And was Mammon going to let her do whatever she wanted? Even though the servant is sworn to protect her master.. it's still very uncertain as to what length she would go to in order to keep Yukari safe. It's an unpleasant and worst-case-scenario type of thinking, but it's hard to shake these thoughts off from time to time, especially in an open environment like this, all filled with various people with different stories and ideals. |

PowersYukari possesses ownership of a world called God's Gift, a pocket dimension granted to her after she unwillingly made a contract during her youth.
| Mammon's Abilities Levitation Mammon possesses the natural ability to float, meaning that she can levitate and move around in the air without using any special means to do so.
