A dimly lit stage and a completely empty auditorium. Chris found herself here after escaping her scheduled "handler" for the day. Her condition hadn't improved and her ability to perform most basic tasks was still very questionable. Yet, despite that, she always seemed to try and get away from the very people trying to help her. Whether it was because she was annoyed or if she was just that much of a derp that she'd get lost if you took your eyes off her, it was difficult to discern. Well. She was difficult to read as a whole, with or without her "emotions". To that end, it was a wonder why she would choose to escape here. Her aversion to "music" as of late hadn't subsided in the least. She was still struggling to find herself, and still wondering what she wanted to do now. She wondered if coming here would give her any answers...yet, she remained just as confused. Chris stood in front of a mic stand, though nothing here was really hooked up. Though...when she tried to sing, tried to call out any of her abilities...nothing. She couldn't get her voice to come out...every time she tried, the images of how she controlled people, the images of the droning audiences that weren't really listening filled the seats in front of her. Every time she forced it...more and more of the seats in front of her would "fill". She just...couldn't do anything anymore. |

Even in the emptiness of the auditorium, dark forces seen and unseen were always at work, especially in Hyakuji. Chris would not find herself safe from such dark forces... as one in particular leered at her from behind the curtains. "A singer who can't sing is merely an amplifier missing some vacuum tubes." ... That... didn't make ANY sense at all! Or did it? Sometimes Otoha didn't make any sense at all, and at other times it made so much sense in retrospect that you kind of wish she just said her point normally. Said troll was loitering around the auditorium for rather strange training purposes, namely that of sound manipulation. Yes, even trolls needed to practice on their punnery and such. "At least, that's how it seems right now," Otoha said as she stepped out into the dim light. She was well aware of what happened to Chris and her involvement with the Siren Gaia Memory, but she wasn't here to chastise her over it. "Hi, Chris-chan. What brings you here?" she asked. It was always best to go straight to the source sometimes. |

The "figures" of the lifeless crowds remained seated, it seemed that even without the actual song maintaining it...the relic within still had some power in it. For now, it just looked as if the two female students had a ghostly audience following their every movement...well, most of them were largely fixated on Chris. They even looked a bit...angry that she wasn't able to perform but otherwise, they didn't move. "...I don't know..." Rather than the same, complete lack of emotion in her voice and the way she carried herself...there was actually a hint of desperation this time. "I thought I'd try...because that's all they want me to do..." she tried living a "normal" life since the incident but couldn't adapt. She couldn't find anything she could consider herself "good" at. And now, she couldn't even do the only thing people expected of her... |

"Well, you've tried doing what they want you to do... that's obviously not working," Otoha said. "You're trying to do what you want to do, but it seems to either hurt or whatever method you're using to do so seems to just make things worse for everyone involved, and that's not working either." Otoha never really took the time to sugarcoat things when dealing with people. Sure, it was construed as making her look like a complete asshole, but she was used to that. Besides, there was asshole levels of blunt, and then there was just being purely frank levels of blunt. Depending on the situation, she tended to go between these two spectrums. At the moment, she was simply being the latter. "There's nothing wrong with trying though. It's sometimes better to go try something and realize it doesn't work if at first glance it seems like a good idea at the time. That's all it was. It sounded like a good idea at the time. It just didn't work out. "Of course, the more important question right now is... what do you want to do? And if you don't know, what was the last thing that worked for you?" she asked as she sat down on the edge of the stage, looking out into the empty crowd. |

"I don't know." Chris was still suffering. She hadn't found herself nor what she wanted to live for. "Nothing worked. Everything always ended the same..." Chris tried learning abilities and found nothing that'd help...she went through many situations and the only thing that truly let her actually do something she loved without hurting herself, only led to a big scandal. Her monotone voice was beginning to crack, but not by much... "What am I supposed to do? I'm not good at anything else...! I just get in the way...!" she ducked down and curled up, covering her head as the crowd she was imagining began throwing stuff as she was still on stage but not performing. She could hear everything, see everything...and even feel it. Even if it was "imagined" light scratches and bruises were forming... Because her powers were going out of control. They were hurting her. Even now, even if she wasn't channeling them like normal, she couldn't do anything...! |

"Then stop getting in the way." She didn't need to look back at Chris to see that she was suffering from her own inner demons, and that her powers were hurting her. It was apparent in her voice alone. "You don't even know what the hell it is you want to do. If you don't, you have no business being the frontliner on stage. You have no reason to sing." She stood up and walked to Chris before she took her hand and forcibly pulled her up to her feet. "You wanna know what you should do? You should stand up for yourself," she began. "Pick a goal and stick to it. As long as you're not going out of your way to hurt people in the process, you don't nave to worry about being such a terrible person. If people complain, it'll sort itself out eventually. But most importantly? Own up to what you do. It's called taking responsibility. You can run, but that can only take you so far. If you don't, people will do it for you, and you won't like it. And when they do, they might drop you." The grip on Chris' wrist began to loosen. "Like right now." She then let go of Chris. It would be up to her to keep standing or to fall down on her own. |

By some miracle, Chris was still standing...the attacks upon her didn't cease however, and she continued to shoulder the burdens she put herself through. Even if words got through to her, the amount of psychological damage coupled with the strange nature of the relic within her meant that there was a lot to fight through. She could stand, but something was lacking in order to get her to calm down... "I've...tried..." Shades of the old way she talked were beginning to shine through. That girly way of speaking that always ended with "nano" yet it was still completely monotone. "I've done everything...to get people to forgive me..." Everything but perform, anyway. It wasn't something unheard of to hear of Chris doing things she didn't need to: doing chores, attempting to work but failing since her post-attempted suicide self became horribly inept at things. Doing more harm than good despite the intentions behind them. It was then, a sheet of paper fell from her pockets...unfolding it would reveal something so very simple: lyrics. Despite having given up, despite her voice not coming to her...she was still trying. Her goal was so simple, yet something was holding her back. It was the only thing she knew how to do...yet she couldn't do it. "I just know...that if I try again...I won't finish...I'll become someone else again..." She wanted to stay Herself even if she didn't know who that was. She was afraid of what would happen if she tried singing one last time...she's created so many different personas that...she didn't want to change for another time. |

"You're still standing. I'm impressed. I was afraid you wouldn't get this far," Otoha smiled when Chris still stood when she let go. But even she knew this was only the beginning. "I've...tried... I've done everything...to get people to forgive me..." Otoha tried not to sigh. She'd seen this before with Hotaru, so she at least could guide Chris through this. Unfortunately, this didn't make it any easier. "I just know...that if I try again...I won't finish...I'll become someone else again..." Chris whimpered. "And what's wrong with that?" Otoha asked. "People change. They gain new skills, new movesets, discard old things. They become a different version of their former selves. The same yet different. It happens all the time. A song is not interesting if it doesn't change its tune throughout it's run, and the same goes for humans! You're not afraid of the change itself. You're afraid of losing who you originally are, even if through the change, you still remain the same!" She picked up the fallen piece of paper and unfurled it, and quietly looked at its contents before getting behind Chris and hugging her. "To change without losing yourself... you must first accept who you are. To do that, you have to stop asking people to forgive you... and start forgiving yourself. Another person's hugs can only go so far. You have to hug yourself at some point." She then held the paper in front of Chris for her to read. "... If you can do that, if you can accept who you are, what you did, and forgive yourself... even just a little... then you can change while staying the same. Confusing, I know, but it'll make sense if you try. And maybe... you can find a reason to sing again. Maybe even sing... for yourself." Would today be that day that Chris sings again?... |

Siren Chris. Awakened Chris. Idol Chris. All of them stood around the "Broken" Chris, each holding out their hand for her to hold. They were all facets of her...they all represented parts of the fallen singer one way or another. The current Chris had tried to distance herself from them, stating that they should go on without her. It's why she gave up so easily and let those images taking over...they were far more suited to pursuing her dream. "As expected...we can't just leave you here. We'll all go together." Even after all that, there were people supporting her. Deep down, she wanted to try. She had to go through a lot to finally listen to them...but was it enough? Even though the crowd had disappeared and simply manifested the multiple facets of her personality...she was still being hurt. Even though she had taken their hands...and Chris hugged them all... She couldn't just sing and put everything under her control. But it didn't stop the others from starting the song she wrote... Hey, we can see each other now even if we’re far apart. Love for you, my heart will always be with you. I’ve already wiped my tears and am smiling, no matter the time, I’m never alone. Dreaming is living, it’s the strength with which to overcome sadness. ... And then...finally, the "real" Chris opened her mouth and tried one last time... I’ll walk, this endless road. I’ll sing across the sky so my feelings can reach you. I promise you that I’ll face forward. Thank you for smile |

Otoha smiled even more as Chris began to sing to some unheard background music heard only to someone like herself and Chris. Such was the fate of those who had power over sound, being able to hear and understand things that others did not, and yet being able to convey these things to their audience. Even normal, powerless musicians had this kind of power hidden within them. For Chris and Otoha, it simply extended itself to the rest of their - and their audience's - perceived reality. And while Otoha used simple words from a dead language to bring to life her intent, Chris had the ability to string whole sentences from a modern language and make it reality. She couldn't help but feel a little jealous. But at the same time she knew how heavy a burden that was. Hey, if I close my eyes, I can see your smile. Love for me, the light gently shines over me. She ended up being swept up in Chris' song that she too began to start singing the words that were on her paper, and it ended up being somewhat of a duet, except she merely sang the counterpoint instead of the main melody. Perhaps in this, she can help put Chris back together again... I’ll walk this one-way road. I’ll sing with my friends so my prayers can resound. I promise you that I will make my dream come true. Thank you for love Edited by Pikachu_Fragger, Sep 15 2014, 11:06 PM.

One by one...the projections of the other iterations of Chris disappeared. First it was the one that bore the star-filled pupils that represented herself under the effects of the Siren Gaia Memory. Next was the Chris that wore the pink and gold ensemble that became the outfit she was most recognized as Hyakuji High's own idol. Yet, only one remained and continued the song with the duet. The short-haired, brunette version of Chris...the one that represented her bond with the relic. It was by far the largest part of the idol...being the one that always spoke her mind and represented her fears, joys, loves and hates about the career path. And it also represented the "start" of her dream. Contrary to her statements about being natural...Chris actually did dye her hair. Not many people knew about it, more so since it was so messy that it was hard to check without thoroughly invading her privacy but...there it was. Just like in those innocent days, I spread my arms towards the sky. I’ll chase after my dreams and run into a new future. Vivid images of her younger self filled the empty music room, all the dreams, all the ideals...soothing the disgruntled audience. Even before wanting to become an idol...she remembered just loving to sing. It didn't matter who listened...back then, things were a lot simpler for her. I’ll walk, this endless road. I’ll sing across the sky so my feelings can reach you. I promise you that I’ll face forward. I’ll wipe away my tears. Despite that...after holding it in for so long...she was crying. The things she had lost sight of...they were returning to her now that she had finally confronted herself. It was only then that the final Chris disappeared...joining the "real" one. Each time one disappeared, of course...she had taken on the different aspects during the course of her performance. The idol's clothes...the Siren's confident expression...and lastly, her younger self's short hair. She needed to prove that she wasn't using the Gaia Memory anymore, and while the port on the back of her neck was long gone...she had nothing to hide. That, in itself, was the sign that she was going to change. I’ll walk on the road I’ve decided on, I’ll sing so my prayers will resound. I gently vow to you that I will make my dreams come true. With you and my friends… I make this promise. When the song came to a close...she once again fell to her knees. She had exhausted herself ridding most of the weight she had shouldered yet...despite the tears, despite everything... She was smiling, honestly and truly, for the first time... |

And that was that. As the song ended and Chris' powers were reigned in under control, Otoha breathed a sigh of relief. "Good job, Chris. The battle has just begun, but the hardest part is over, and you did it," she gently said as she sat down next to the idol and gave her a handkerchief. "Ah, ah... If the crazy troll is the one who plays psychiatrist and succeeds in some measure, then I worry for the mental health of all those involved with this city," Otoha chuckled. "I'd like to think that your other friends who've been with you all this time have helped a lot more than I did though, so thank them. I just helped you see what they've been probably trying to tell you all along." She ruffled the idol's hair gently between the fingers of her left hand. "So, what now? I get the feeling that this isn't the end of it... but at the same time this is just the start of everything new. You probably have a lot of explaining to do too. But for now... how does you feel? And please say better because that smile tells me everything but I want to hear it in your words. If you say worse then I'll have to call you a dirty liar and we'll have to do this silly song and dance number again." |

Control was still hard to tell at this point. For now, a major incident like the moments before her attempted suicide were halted...it was still up in the air on whether or not she could truly control them without harming herself, at least. Deep down, Chris could feel that accepting everything had spurred a change within her, but for now...she was too tired to try and do something to actually test that. Despite the effect of her powers fading, thus returning her clothes to normal, her hair still remained short. Perhaps there was a semblance of control, in that it actually changed the reality of something rather than creating the image. Her powers were always vague as far as what was real and what wasn't... "I feel...less burdened..." she didn't need to worry as much about her image anymore. Well, in the sense she was worrying about, anyway. "There's a lot to do...and I feel like I could sing like I used to without hurting people but...I know understand what was holding me back." "I know now that there's a lot of Chrises inside me... and this time, I won't try to change them so people can like me." she began, as she wobbled back to her feet. "Instead... I'll let people know that those Chrises exist..." Accepting every part of her was something she wanted her audiences to do, yet she couldn't herself. "That's the me I want to be." Now that she had decided on her focus, on what type of "idol" she wanted to be...maybe, just maybe...she'd make her return. |
