Spike's' dreams upon falling asleep would not be his usual ones. Instead, Spike would find himself seated at a table across from a man wearing a rough tunic and leather breeches. The table was lit by a single candle and darkness surrounded them on all sides. The man, who Spike could see was heavily scarred and had part of his ear and several fingers missing spoke after a moment of silence. "I have sensed in you a strong fighting spirit. Strong enough to wake the slumber of He Who Reigns Eternal. As such, he would extend you an invitation to temper your strength in a crucible of unmatched challenge. Should you accept, then you will be granted a chance at something all men dream of. Does such an offer interest you?" the man asked, his eyes fixed upon Spike. |

For a bit things had seemed off, but now some arrogant king type appeared in front of him. Ah, not some arrogant king type but his follower. He had mistaken the speech for the same sort he had. That was more or less a standard dream as far as Spike was concerned. He wondered why they were going to fight by this candle? Well, that was something he could worry over later. "What's the something?" Spike was curious. Something all men dream of? What sort of man's passion was this beat up guy talking about. Was it love? Money? A harem of pretty girls? ...The thrill of the fight? Those things came to his mind. "No, it doesn't matter. Just let me fight this Reigning guy." Spike shook his head getting himself back on track. He could sate himself as long as he got to face off against the end boss. |

The man chuckled. "If you wish to fight our champion, then you must first prove yourself worthy. You must fight and you must win." The man stood up and an intricately carved staff appeared in his hand. "So young man. Do you have the courage to stand against that which the Arena can throw at you?" |

Spike took a look around, "Let's get to it." He wasn't anywhere else so that was really all he could do. How had he gotten here anyways? It hadn't occurred to him until now, but it didn't actually matter. This was where he was and if he was dealing with this he would just have to push through. "So, who do I have to fight first?" Spike clenched his fist. He wondered who it would be. Someone he knew? |

"Then choose your weapon." the man stood up and gestured to the table which grew in size until it was three times as large as before. Upon it's surface were countless ancient weapons of all kinds and styles. From the Eastern Japanese katana, to the Western halberd. "Choose your weapon, then step forward." said the man. A loud clattering sound echoed as a line of light appeared behind the man. The light slowly grew brighter, illuminating a gateway of some kind, though Spike could not see beyond it. "Step forward, and fight, for Honor, Fame, and Glory!" the main exclaimed, slamming his staff down hard, creating a sound that echoed through the darkness. |

Spike stepped forward without so much as a passing glance at the assorted weapons. It wasn't like he couldn't use a weapon. He just didn't. If he was going in then he would use his own two hands. Well, it wasn't like he knew how to swing a sword or learned some pole-arm technique. Even if he took a weapon he would just swing it around like a club. |

Upon stepping through the gate, Spike's vision was filled with a brilliant light that blinded him for a few seconds. When his vision cleared, he was standing in a forest clearing. The full moon shone down on him from above, illuminating the clearing while casting the surrounding forest in darkness. Standing in front of him was a lean man wearing only a pair of breeches and a leather helmet. A metal face guard consisting of crossed metal bars obscured his face. "You are to be my opponent then?" asked the man, raising his fists. The moonlight caught the glint of metal and Spike could see that the man was wearing a pair of thin leather gloves with metal studs on the front. |

"Ah..." Spike was disappointed. It was just some guy. He wasn't sure what he had expected but this just wasn't satisfying for him. His mind still wasn't quite making any order of what was going on. Well circumstances and things like that hardly mattered did they? Spike heaved a sigh, "Alright. Let's get this over with." Spike was still being disappointed with his opponent. And more annoyingly his standard plan of [PUNCH HIM IN THE FACE] seemed less than ideal, given the metal in front of it. Maybe he should have grabbed a stick to hit him with after all. |

The man nodded and ran forward, feinting with a straight. His footwork was fast. Almost too fast to be seen, and his muscles spoke of years of training. "In the emperor's name, you will fall!" he exclaimed as he attempted to drive his knee into Spike's stomach. |

Spike saw the punch coming a mile away and was ready to fully commit to it. Without a second thought he threw his own punch along the course to strike the man's face with a shining Cross Counter. But his opponent stopped short and his fist made a path of its own right at the metal cross dfending the man's face. Perhaps you could consider it luck that the knee drove into his gut at that instant, his fist stopping short of the man's face. Spike's body lurched forward but his hand jerked and his fingers reached out to grab the man by his muscular neck. Spike didn't believe in falling so he just had to grab onto the man. |
