Turning misery into meaningfulness!
A soft summer breeze takes the air of Hyakuji, cooling all who felt it. It was a relaxing day, it seemed, a nice, calmed morning, simple as that. The sky shined a bright radiance in response to the calm, cool day, almost completely free of clouds. "Ah, today is just...." A silver haired boy walked out from the Yuki dorms, stopping his words to stretch his arms a bit, and yawn. "...yeah, just great." He said, in a laid-back tone. That boy was Shirena Nikushima, and he seemed...well, content, wearing a casual red t-shirt and black shorts.

As he stumbled a bit on his ways away from the entrance to the dorm, thoughts of possible things to do this day were running through his surprisingly active mind (considering he only recently woke.) He looked at his phone, and blinked upon seeing the date. "...Huh. Summers already almost over." He said, with a soft sigh of disappointment, before a smile showed on his features. "May as well make the most of it." He finished, as he made his way to the entrance to the school, hoping to get a morning run in before anything else.

"Summer breeze, makes me feel fine..."

Thanks to habitual routines developed by her spec ops background, Lavender was already up and running before the first rays of dawn broke over the horizon. Before breakfast, the aeromancer would start her day with a basic fitness routine, or on this particular day was an early morning jog around the athletic field and school grounds, while listening to MP3 tracks from her Galaxy Note 3 over a Bluetooth stereo earpiece, her attire for the moment consisting of blue gym shorts with white accents and a pink sports bra and white trainers with matching socks, her hair tied back in a high ponytail.

As Lavender jogged past a white-haired boy musing about how summer was coming to an end and that he should be making the best of it the aeromancer couldn't help but pass a comment as she jogged by. "Truth is, regardless of the season one should learn to make the most out of every day of their lives. And today looks like a beautiful day to put this into practice, don't you think?" Lavender interjected, slowing her pace down so that the boy might be able to hear her, before picking up her original pace, glancing over her shoulder with a slight smile to see if he would try to follow.

Shirena took notice of the woman jogging by. At first, he had thought nothing of it, after all, the morning is an excellent time to get some exercise in. Though hearing her dispense some small bits of advice, he chuckled a bit, and nodded. Beginning to jog next to her, he nodded, and smiled a bit. "Exactly what I was thinking." He said, keeping pace with her pretty well.

He had noticed one thing though about her. He recognized her from some of the classes he had passed on his way to class. "Hm...Aren't you a teacher? Like...I don't know your name, but I know I saw you leading a few classes in the mornings." He said, stiffling a small yawn into his palm as he jogged. He hadn't gotten much sleep, it seemed, despite the early time to wake up.

"Aye, that would be me, Lavender Smith," Lavender replied to the boy's question as to whether she's a teacher as he began jogging alongside her, keeping his pace. "Guess you aren't taking survival studies? Because I'd recognize my students if I saw them," the aeromancer asked, stealing a glance over at the white-haired boy as he yawned.

"Not gotten enough sleep huh?" Lavender remarked, retrieving her phone to switch the tracks being played on her MP3 player app. "We actually have about an hour or so before the first classes start, so y'know, you could've opted to sleep in for another 30 minutes or so... or you could've chosen to turn in earlier," the aeromancer commented.

"So then young man, what's your name?" Lavender asked, seeing how he wasn't one of her students, and he didn't exactly know her name either until she'd told him about it just now, so it was only fair that he too, introduced himself.

Shirena shook his head. "No, I didn't...though, considering what I've been getting into, I'm kinda beginning to wish I had." He said, chuckling a bit. "But I guess that's a bit on the late side now, huh." He shrugged softly. "But yeah, I'm in Supernatural Studies, Arts, and Science." He said, stretching his neck a bit as they jogged.

"I..." He thought for a moment. "Its not quite because I wanted to get up extra early for classes, mind you." He said, keeping a steady pace. "I was up all last night, mostly doing research, studying, stuff like that." He said, "I know its not mandatory, but I...well, like to be prepared." He said, with an embarrassed smile. "Not to mention, I like to take a short run around the city before classes."

"Oh!" He mentally slapped himself for having forgotten, how rude of himself! "My apologies, Ms. Smith! I am Shirena, Shirena Nikushima. Its very nice to meet you!" He said, holding out a hand for her to shake, before realizing that shaking hands while running wasn't exactly the smartest thing. He meekly pulled his hand away, with an awkward smile. "Erm, sorry." He said softly

"Quite the model student you are, Nikushima-kun," Lavender remarked as Shirena stated his reasons for staying up late, which suffice to say the aeromancer found rather impressive but hard to believe. Oh sure, the students would claim that they were burning the midnight oil, but the aeromancer would guess they were more likely hanging out on social networking sites, chatting, or playing some MMORPGs. One of these days, she thought, she might just toss out a surprise quiz to see they were capable of backing their claims.

"Well, I was about to call it a day for jogging anyways," Lavender remarked as she slowed down to a stop to shake Shirena's hand. "I've been at it even before the sun rose, and was making my final lap - I do need some time to have breakfast, shower and then get ready for teaching classes afterall," the survival studies teacher continued, gesturing towards the main building where the staff offices were located - where the aeromancer often kept; among various things, daily essentials, a change of clothing and so on so forth.

"I've been teaching classes at Hyakuji High long enough to know that every student that enrolls in this school has a story," Lavender remarked, performing a series of cooldown exercises. "Whether they seek to master their abilities, or to find acceptance among their peers... so if you don't mind, what's your story?" the aeromancer asked.

Shirena shrugged softly. "Believe what you want to believe, I guess. Wouldn't call myself a model anything." He said, with a soft yawn as their pace slowed. "I like my classes, and I'm passing, but I've been getting...lazy recently. Need to step up my game." He said, with a small grin.

As she shook his hand, he slowed himself as well, shaking back, with a small smile. "I should probably do more, but..." He yawned softly into a fist as he pulled his hand away. "...yeah, a bit too sleep for that." He said, stretching his back a bit farther than normal, with a soft groan. "Yeah...eating would be nice. I kinda got shower already last night." He said, leaning forward, and breathing in, softly exhaling.

"My story?" He asked, with a small blush. "I mean...I wouldn't say its a big story or anything. Just....well, I kinda never met my mom. My dad died in, ironically, a cooking fire, despite being a pyromancer." He said. "...I doubt he died, to be honest. He said his powers were similar to my own, meaning I should be able to survive fire...though I doubt he got out of the house..." He said, with a small shrug. "He wanted me to learn here. Its where he learned, and I...guess it's become a sort of tradition, even if its just from father to son." He said, softly shrugging again. "But....well, thats in the past. I've mostly been trying to acquaint myself with other students, something I'm...not the best at. Even then, I made some friends..." He said, before sighing. "Sorry, I tend to ramble a bit on occasion." He said, with an embarrassed smile. "So....well, since you asked me, what's your story? How did you become a teacher here?"

"My story?" Lavender remarked as Shirena asked for hers after he was done sharing his story with the aeromancer. "It's a long story, my autobiography would easily be a novel trilogy, at least," the aeromancer continued, flashing the pyromancer a smile. Biologically-speaking, Lavender was still considered young by human standards, still in the prime of life, but given how much she'd been through the aeromancer often felt - mentally and emotionally - like a much older person; having seen more wonders and horrors alike in merely two decades of her life than what an average person would experience in their entire lifetime.

And to think despite having gone through this much, there was still a long road ahead of the aeromancer; and as far as she was concerned, it was a little tiring to think about this at length - given all the proverbial mountains she'd climbed, the aeromancer dreaded to think about the day she'd have to ask herself, "And then what?" upon realizing that she had no more mountains left to climb.

"Well, I don't wanna take up too much of your time, so I'll just give you the juicy bits," Lavender commented, beginning a summary of her story, "I was born in Edinburgh, Scotland... never really knew who my mom was, and as far back as I could remember my dad singlehandedly raised me. Never got along well with other kids in the neighbourhood or at school, because I never quite fit in, it's not hard to guess why." the aeromancer paused, brushing aside her bangs to let Shirena take a good look at her ears, which were elongated and pointy much like an elf's.

"Powers surfaced one day when I was... I dunno, six? Seven? Bunch of kids were being mean and all, as usual, but it was then I felt that enough was enough; screamed at them to leave me alone, and then the air before me suddenly rushed out in a lavender-coloured wave, knocking them all down and pushing them back... they probably deserved it, the buggers that they are, but at that time I felt nothing but shock and horror and just ran all the way back home."

"The next day, I was called over to the principal's office together with my dad, and what scared me was the fact that there was also police and a few scary-looking men in suits and sunglasses... they were government agents... MI5, I think. There was a nice old man amongst them though, called himself Dr. Renard Mobius, from the OASIS Foundation, an internationally-funded consortium dedicated to the research on metahuman abilities, as well as intelligence and defense from metahuman threats as well as safeguarding of the welfare of powered beings. They took me under their wing, taught me how to master my power over the air."

There was a brief pause as Lavender gave Shirena time to digest this particular chapter in her story, and to demonstrate her abilities, the aeromancer would raise her right hand, gathering a lavender-colored vortex above her open palm - and in response a small twister appeared before her, the swirling vortex of aeromancy-controlled air giving off an ethereal lavender-colored glow as it howled and whistled, rustling the leaves and branches of nearby trees.

Shirena nodded softly, in a sort of understanding. "Honestly, I wasn't treated the best in my old school either, and all I had was my dad, so..." He sighed. "Thank you for telling me, though." He said, as she seemed to summon a vortex of...oddly purple air. "So...you can control wind, then? Thats pretty cool." He said, before holding his hand up

As he held his hand up, sighing softly, as a small flicker of flames appeared from his palm. "Obviously, I am a pyromancer. I brought it up, I think..." He said, as the wisp of flames whipped between his fingers, as he toyed with the flame. "Though it kinda goes beyond just...making and throwing fire." He said, before, as it rose beyond his his middle finger, he crushed the ember, and upon releasing his palm, a small explosion appeared in his hand. "My powers can go to a much bigger extent, but....well, I don't want to really hurt anyone." He said sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck with his other hand.

"That's how schools like Hyakuji High came into existence... birds of the same feather flock together," Lavender remarked as Shirena revealed that prior to coming to Hyakuji his classmates also didn't exactly treat him well, followed by a small demonstration of his powers, and apparently his pyromancy wasn't limited to simply conjuring flames and slinging them around, the aeromancer watching with interest as Shirena crushed the small burning ember in his hand and upon opening his hand created a small explosion.

"Of course I'm not expecting this to be the full extent of your ability; if that were so, one probably wouldn't have needed to enroll in Hyakuji High, it would be a lot easier to simply keep their powers from becoming public knowledge, and live out their lives like normal people," Lavender remarked, knowing that a common alternative to enrolling in institutes like Hyakuji High was often to simply keep their powers a secret from the rest of the world.

"Typically those who feel the need to enroll here are the ones whose powers are too great to be simply kept a secret, yet at the same time not potent enough that they have considerable mastery over it to make good use of it, or that they can't control it well enough to not pose a threat to others," the aeromancer continued, glancing briefly at her smart watch to check out the timing. Or else they could be enrolled here against their own will, sent by their own parents, guardians or the government - either out of goodwill, or out of fear.

"Anyways, it was nice talking to you, Shirena-kun, but I'm gonna be off now to have breakfast and get ready to hold my classes," the aeromancer remarked in earnest, giving the pyromancer a salute. "And oh, if you ever wish to meet up with more elemancers either to make friends or to exchange pointers, feel free to drop by at the Elemancer Castle so I can fill you in on the membership details - disregard the rumors you might have heard about how we're involved in protecting nature and all... that was some time ago, and things have gotten quiet since then, we're really more of a casual club these days, so yeah, don't be late for your classes!"
