Gaius' dreams upon falling asleep would not be his usual ones. Instead, Gaius would find himself seated at a table across from a man wearing a rough tunic and leather breeches. The table was lit by a single candle and darkness surrounded them on all sides. The man, who Gaius could see was heavily scarred and had part of his ear and several fingers missing spoke after a moment of silence. "I have sensed in you a strong fighting spirit. Strong enough to wake the slumber of He Who Reigns Eternal. As such, he would extend you an invitation to temper your strength in a crucible of unmatched challenge. Should you accept, then you will be granted a chance at something all men dream of. Does such an offer interest you?" the man asked, his eyes fixed upon Gaius. |

Well, it had been a while since he had witnessed a dream that was more then a product of his imagination. Gaius smiled as he observed the figure carefully, he wasn't sure what the man in question was talking about but then again if he was contacted in his dreams then there was a fair few other questions that were a bit more relevant. The man offered him a invitation to prove his strength, Gaius was a bit surprised at that he entwined his fingers in though before he opened his mouth to answer. "I accept your offer." He wasn't sure how this would end but a chance to hone his skills further was always welcome. "Shall we be participating in this challenge here?" Gaius inquired, it seemed like that probably would not be the case but then again, dreams could be manipulated so there was all the chance of a battlefield being made there. He waited to see if the man in front of him would respond to his inquiry. |

The man smiled and replied, "Not here. You will be taken to the field of battle shortly. For now, please, arm yourself." the man stood up and gestured to the table which grew in size until it was three times as large as before. Upon it's surface were countless ancient weapons of all kinds and styles. From the Eastern Japanese katana, to the Western halberd. "Choose your weapon, then step forward." said the man. A loud clattering sound echoed as a line of light appeared behind the man. The light slowly grew brighter, illuminating a gateway of some kind, though Gaius could not see beyond it. "Step forward, and fight, for Honor, Fame, and Glory!" the main exclaimed, holding aloft an intricately carved wooden staff and slamming the butt down hard, creating a sound that echoed through the darkness. |

"I see." Gauis spoke as he made his way over to the table, there were a large amount of weapons from different civilizations and different times. Nothing modern which was hardly suprising to Gaius all things considered, having guns or the like was hardly a fair test of skill against an opponent. Placing his hands on the table he chose his weapon, he decided on an uchigatana. He figured it would be good to have an effective method to counter attack with, the art of Iajutsu was also something that interested Gaius. He had even spent the mandatory weapons training with The Court practicing it, before he decided to go without a weapon obviously. "Alright, let's do this then." Gaius said as he stepped forward, listening as the sound echoed around the darkness. He wasn't sure what or who his opponent was going to be but he was excited. This could prove to be quite the entertaining experience all things considered. |

As he took his first step through the gate, Gaius was blinded by a flash of intense light. When it faded he found himself looking at the full moon. Only it wasn't anywhere near time for the full moon, and also the moon was far too large to be normal. Were he to look down, Gaius would discover that he was standing in the center of a sprawling field of gravestones. A low mist covered the ground, the tops of the tombstones jutting up from it like eerie stone skyscrapers. |

Gaius held a hand up to counter the sudden bright light, as it faded his surroundings came into view. It seemed like their site for the challenge would be in a graveyard. Nervously laughing Gaius couldn't help but comment. "Don't suppose i'm being told something here." It was a appropriate place for a test of strength, if he was to fail then he'd join those who were not strong enough either. On the plus side however there was plenty of material for him to use, not only was there the earth but if it was necessary then he could manipulate the gravestones. "I'm ready now." He grasped the hilt of the blade still in it's sheath and lowered his body, he would wait for his opponent first. |

The sound of shuffling feet reached Gaius' ears. Upon turning around, he would find himself facing a figure approaching slowly, walking with a slow, shuffling gait. As the figure closed in, it would become apparent that it was a man wearing Ancient Roman armor. In one hand he clutched a gladius, and in the other was a wooden staff with a tattered banner attached. The figure's groans reached his ears next and as he grew closer, Gaius could see the emaciated look, the shriveled muscles, peeling; if not missing, skin, and the eyes... like milky white pools of nothingness... |

Gaius turned to face the strange opponent. He was clad in Roman armor, a legionnaire of some sort maybe. Regardless what made Gaius more curious was his zombie like status, it seemed that Gaius's opponents would in fact be zombies in the first place. He wasn't about to be reckless just because his opponent seemed to be slow and had equally slow reactions, to do something like that was basically asking him to be defeated. He would have to approach this fight as he would any other fight, with careful observation and actions. Fortunately it seemed like he would have the upper hand in this particular engagement. Concentrating Gaius began to manipulate the earth, the earth itself would move up in an attempt to surround the creature's feet and bind it's movements. Following this Gaius took a step forward and drew his blade in a slashing motion intended to strike, if not sever the creature if the blow landed. |

The legionnaire blocked Gaius' strike with his sword. For a corpse he was remarkably spry! If it was possible for a dried out corpse to smile... Well this legionnaire was sure giving it his best. "FoUrTh LeGiOn..." it croaked out in a raspy, sandpaper-like voice. "AtTaCk!"it called out, slamming the butt if the staff down. A shockwave rippled out from the point of impact, strong enough to knock Gaius off his feet. More importantly, it cracked the ground, freeing several more legionnaire zombies from their earthly confines. |

It was an effective combatant at the very least. Gaius jumped back after his blade had been blocked, there was no point in keeping in close combat when relying on the draw of the blade. Sheathing his blade again he listened as the corpse began to speak. What he wasn't prepared for however was the shockwave following his commands. Falling to the ground Gaius pulled himself up, he noticed the ground cracked and more legionnaire zombies rising from the ground. This was a bad situation, one or two trained zombies he could easily handle but a larger number would definetly be a bad situation for him to be in. Manipulating the earth around him he tried to seal shut the cracks, even if the zombies were currently in the process he could at least try to cripple them. Such a large area required a large amount of concentration however, he made his way back to his feet. He couldn't really lie around considering that for all intents and purposes he didn't know where the legionnaires were. |

"NoT So FaSt!" the Legionnaire called, raising its staff again. "PlAiNcRaCkEr!" it exclaimed, smashing the butt of the staff down, sending out yet another shock wave that would create new cracks. The unmistakable moan of a zombie reached Gaius' ears from off to the side, making it clear that at least one zombie had escaped the confines of the earth and was coming for him. |

It seemed like the leader wasn't about to let Gaius go ahead and seal up his comrades, Gaius couldn't help but sigh. It seemed like this was going to be a lot more difficult then he had originally thought. He seemed to be able to cause cracks to appear so dealing with him was the most obvious solution, however in this situation Gaius couldn't let himself get overwhelmed by the number of creatures that were coming from the earth. That would be a tactically poor decision. Maybe he could trick the legionnaire into single combat, that would make it much easier. As he considered it he heard a moan of one of the zombies to his side, he quickly turned to face it and manipulated one of the gravestones, he sent it flying towards the zombie's head with the intent to render the being headless for all intents and purposes. Whoever designed this sure was nice, giving him all these free weapons around. "Did you lose your honour as a legionnaire when you died?" Gaius asked tauntingly, he wasn't even sure if zombies considered concepts such as honor anymore. Especially considering it seemed like a pawn in all this. It was still worth trying to make the fight easier. "Where is your honour as a soldier, face me and face me alone like a true warrior." It wasn't really a lie, true warriors fought each other one against one, Gaius preferred himself however not to act as a warrior but as someone who wanted to live, even if that required questionable tactics. |

"thE TeSt MuSt CoNTiNuE!" it exclaimed, "ShOw YoUr StReNgTh, Or DiE!" Gaius was attacked from two sides by a pair of legionnaires wielding gladii and carrying toll shields known as scutum. "YoU FiX...I BrEaK!" the staff and sword wielding legionnaire said, using the staff to begin breaking the earth holding it captive Each strike of the staff sent out another shockwave which further broke and sundered the ground |

"Of course it does." Gaius commented annoyingly as he pulled another two tombstones out from the surrounding area to use like bullets, flinging them towards the pair of legionnaires heads aiming to crush them. This was starting to get quite irritating, no matter what he did the one with the banner would just keep going shattering the earth. It was time for a change of tactics, Gaius started to wonder how he could change the situation to be in his favor. Currently he could only be on the defensive, there wasn't much in the ways of offense he could do while the legionnaire with the staff kept on breaking the earth that he was trying to use. An idea popped into Gaius's head, what if he also helped break the earth. He could attempt to send them plummeting to the depths of the earth where he could easily crush them with the pressure from the earth pushing together. "In that case, maybe I should break to." Gaius commented as he began to break apart the earth himself. The ground underneath the legionnaires would begin to give way even more then it was originally whilst Gaius's footing remained sure. "The question is now, can you fix what I break?" He moved among the cracked ground charging at the main legionnaire drawing his blade in a quick motion and aiming a slash towards the staff. Hopefully he would be able to throw the legionnaire off balance and get a good attack in. |

"YeS!" it cried, slamming the ground with it's staff. "MoRe, MoRe!" it cried as the cracks grew larger, allowing even more zombies to escape the confines of the earth. "MoRe CrUsH! MoRe SmAsH! MoRe DeStRoY!" it screamed, smashing it's staff into the ground one more time. Gaius was surrounded on all sides by legionnaire zombies, but the cracks were wide and deep, and the earth was beginning to crumble away. Any more stress and it would give out. |
